  1. I'm ready to make Shouse a starter. Who's with me?!
  2. I can't even blame that one on Dale Svuem!
  3. While I do agree in principal with the idea of going to a 2-year program in order to save money, it may not be the right road if you're looking to go into a sports field. Neither will some of the 4-year Wisconsin schools. You need to be able to make contacts, get internships and get involved with local sports teams at any professional level. You can't do that in place like Eau Claire, Platteville, Stevens Point and Oshkosh. I feel like you're limiting your school search to the UW area because of money and possibly laziness. Get the hell out of Dodge! This is your chance to go ANYWHERE! I went to a private school 1200 miles from home. I had a 3.7 or so in school and a 31 on the ACT and got a $10,000/year scholarship (and this was 9 years ago when I was a freshman). I absolutely have student loans to pay off, but I never paid a dime of tuition in 4 years. Don't be afraid of costly schools. Do your research. Apply for everything.
  4. This may be silly, but other than a wild pitch, I don't think pitchers get charged with errors - the theory being that they aren't trained fielders and anything that would be a play they make couldn't be assumed as it's a difficult play and requires extraordinary effort to create an out.
  5. I have to say that you need to get your behind in gear. I did all my college visits in the FALL of my junior year. I had my applications in by the fall of my senior year and had accepted everything by Winter of my Senior year. It seems to me like you might be a little behind the curve and really need to get serious, especially if you're looking to play a sport. You need to honestly ask yourself if you're good enough to play somewhere. Presumably if you were more than above average, you'd have been recruited somewhere, so you need to be honest and figure out if this is really a possibility for you. You need to look at Junior Colleges and small schools. I played soccer at an NAIA school in the south and that really was because it was a small school and soccer was low on the totem pole. We didn't have scholarships. But if you're good and you are just looking to continue playing the game you love, you need to do some research. Schools aren't going to fall in your lap and coaches are going to want to see you play. They aren't going to wait until next summer's high school league to decide on you. That's WAY too late.
  6. I don't want a press conference to make me feel warm and fuzzy, but I do feel it's within the right of the public to demand answers. Ned is the manager of a team that is underperforming and not meeting the expectations he himself set forward for the team. Therefore, I think it's completely kosher to question why and for him to have to give answers. To say that he doesn't have to, or that press conferences are nothing, or that it's "the media's" fault runs the same vein as the tired excuses Ned gives. Why shouldn't he be held accountable? Why shouldn't we be able to take what he says with any value? Why is he allowed to get off without ever answering a tough question and we're all just ok with it, because that's Ned?
  7. I'll be at Tuesday's game.
  8. I know the young girls love Archuleta, but I can't for the life of me imagine what kind of record he could make that anyone in the 12-25 set would buy and listen to. Other than Idol shows, how many 14 year olds do you know that listen to Elton John or Andrew Lloyd Webber. There's no doubting he has a good voice, but I can't imagine what kind of mass appeal he'll have - kind of like Clay or Reuben or Taylor Hicks.
  9. I'll second the nod to Old 97s. Well worth the price of admission.
  10. That double play last night - they never showed the play at first base on replay. I would have liked a closer shot as it seemed awfully close. SO frustrating.
  11. I felt like Bill was a complete putz the entire game last night. He kept talking about balls jumping out of PNC and how no lead is safe, as though he were hedging his bets and thought our collapse was inevitable. It felt like he wanted to be able to say "I told you so" when we blew the lead. Calling for someone to be up in the bullpen after Gagne gave up the homerun was ridiculous. It was not panic time.
  12. But every other move we made and every word out of Doug/Ned/Attanasio's mouth this off-season was that this was our "go for it year". The management, since the end of last season, has done nothing but say it's this year or no year. Do or die.
  13. I'm not sure why you think you're the only one with any journalistic credibility. I'm certain I'm not the only one with a Journalism degree here and I know we have multiple freelance writers. I personally wasn't even commenting on TH.
  14. You're making a gross generalization without any backing. There are responsible bloggers out there same as responsible journalists. And vice versa, whether they have credentials or not. To assume a blogger doesn't have any journalistic background or integrity is the same as assuming that a "credentialed" journalist has it merely because he's credentialed - foolish. You assume this guy's source has no basis or ties to the organization. Why? I guess I'm on the soapbox, but I find this thinking so frustrating. And I think this board should be high on the list of folks who know that there are smart, informed people writing on the internet.
  15. Haudricourt posted a link to a blog in his blog. He didn't put it on the site as a story, he kept it in his blog. The only thing I don't like about it is that he refers to Badger Blogger's anonymous source as questionable but he then uses his own anonymous source inside the Brewers to deny the rumor. How is it different?
  16. From what I read he worked with his dad, but Simmons found a flaw in his throwing early in spring and helped change it. I had a fan say that all game at Miller Park and then a very stupid fan yell it all game at Wrigley on May 1. Do they watch ANY games?
  17. The marketing/PR department has been beyond stellar in terms of promotion over the past 3 years - especially in comparison to how things were before that. Think of some of the big draw things they've done over that past few years *Cerveceros Day/Reaching out to Latino community/Chorizo *Brewers Blast *Arctic Tailgate *Block Party *Kids Zone *Increased focus on Sausages *Retro days *All-fan Giveaways
  18. Well the tickets are $26, not $36 and it says right in the linked article that if they score 26, it's free.
  19. This was in an article on mb.com. I read it to mean that Yost was confirming that Gagne was tipping pitches without saying the words and then saying that he wouldn't tell them exactly what Gagne was doing that tipped hitters off: Yost said the Brewers noticed a flaw in Gagne's recent outings, particularly on Saturday, but the manager would not go into detail. Had Gagne been tipping pitches? "I'm not telling you guys what it was," Yost said. "It was very obvious. That's why I think he was totally upset."
  20. She first said that way back on the 8th and I commented on it then and no one said boo! I was up in arms as she went over this whole thing where he highlights their names and if he uses them 3 days in a row, they get mandatory two days rest. My original comment:http://forum.brewerfan.net/search.php?keywords=345342/t/-Designated-Yost-Thread-Is-Yost-stifling-this-team-.html
  21. Fazio's Automotive on the East Side and Farkas Auto in Brown Deer are two places I'd absolutely recommend. They won't gouge you.
  22. Did anyone else see the bit yesterday where Ned basically said Gagne was tipping his pitches? Yost said the Brewers noticed a flaw in Gagne's recent outings, particularly on Saturday, but the manager would not go into detail. Had Gagne been tipping pitches? "I'm not telling you guys what it was," Yost said. "It was very obvious. That's why I think he was totally upset." http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080512&content_id=2688174&vkey=news_mil&fext=.jsp&c_id=mil
  23. I also learned that lesson the hard way. I assumed that giving them my info for withdrawing would give them the info they needed to deposit, but not so. I guess I think it's ridiculous that you have to give them permission to give you the money. I wrote down the numbers for them, gave them authority to take my money, but that doesn't cover them giving me free money. As though anyone out there would turn this down.
  24. Love the reference.
