  1. I assume it is not me - looks like FSN has a new entry for the horrible production thread with the centerfield angle making it look like fog has settled over the infield (other angles are clear).
  2. I believe it happened just last year with Ryan Howard. He wasn't selected to the all-star team, but being the defending champ probably got him special consideration (and being young and willing to participate).
  3. Also: 6 hits, 4 home runs. And ends with 7 hits for 7 runs, everyone once in a while, a power outburst feels better than manufacturing them http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. Same could be said about comments regarding tonight's lineup. Thought everyone would remember how dominant the "JV line-up" can be...7-0 win, and the bullpen should be well rested for the next several days.
  5. Somebody really wants to start in the All-Star game! 10 total bases... and counting
  6. While I initially wondered what the plan was going to be after Torres's 2 1/3 the night before, the situation seemed to make it a no-brainer. With a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs, it appeared to make simple sense to go to the bench for a pinch hitter for Mota in the bottom of the 8th to try for more insurance runs... seeming to kinda make much of this debate off base.
  7. Torres looking dominant now... Gagne's "injury" could linger for quite awhile now. Quiet day on the board - hope many either made it to the game or spent it with Dad (or being a Dad), or better... at the game with Dad.
  8. At least both times the pitchers were able to throw strikes... would have been kinda sad if a ball was thrown in those situations. Judging by the following batter's strike out call, the plate ump is wanting to keep this game moving along. Hope the Brewer batters have learned from that.
  9. Good Feet Store... those former players just sound painfully akward hawking that product Minnesota programming... annoying reminder of DirecTV's resistance to acknowledge FSNWi as a full-time channel
  10. Won't be Weaver, Jim Powell just reported he was granted his release.
  11. Did he also pitch in a day game following a night game after he went multiple innings the night before in New York too? (Well, I made it over 100 posts before my first Ned doesn't know how to manage a bullpen vent, hopefully it will be another 100+ before he makes me do that again)
  12. As mentioned in the other weather thread, this is real close to my heart having been involved for a long time. Ironically, the tornado that hit the south side of Wausau (Rib Mtn) in 1984 was my neighborhood and the clean up & rebuilding became my Eagle Scout project. I'm sure the combination of those experiences in first aid training, encouragement to help others, and leadership skills gained in the Boy Scout program was a big reason I found chose to become a volunteer EMT & firefighter. I don't doubt that many of those affected will come out stronger in the long run, but for the time being, my sympathies and condolences go to the families and friends of those that lost young loved ones in this tragedy.
  13. With much worse results, 4 at Boy Scout camp killed by tornado (was heavily involved, so this is kinda close to home) http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/S/SEVERE_WEATHER?SITE=WIMIL&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT
  14. Well, maybe just let the Brewers finish the top of the 4th and then call off the derby. You know something's up, when Kendall hits one off the top of the wall.
  15. It's not the kind of advertising that you guys are talking, but I'm simply impressed by the marketing of Topper's Pizzas. Easy to remember phone numbers in college towns (read: late night drunken munchies) has paid off many times with people I know. Up in Stevens Point it's 342-4242, Madison was 284-8484 and Green Bay was 432-3232 (and I've never lived in any of those towns, just easy to remember from visiting friends years ago), plus I heard several others have been set up around the state in other college cities with similar easy numbers. Guess it's the little things that work for me, I honestly can't even tell you what model car is in those Zoom-Zoom or John Mellencamp commercials, as I'll do my own research when I'm ready to vehicle shop. But when it comes something like brats & beer, I can recall details of way too many (Charlie Murphy's cooking Johnsonville brats, the Budweiser Clydesdales normally go for two, Man Law - Don't Fruit the Beer, the names of the racing sausages, etc) PS - Wausau had a billboard earlier this year for the teacher's association (WEAC) with a misspelling, doh!
  16. And then he will be heading north to hang around with Jim Ganter at a Woodchucks game in Wausau on Sunday http://www.wausaudailyherald.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080610/WDH0101/80610118/1981
  17. I've got a similar problem when pitching in softball, but nowhere else on the diamond. For me it feels like some kind of mental fear that the baseman won't have time to react to a ball thrown hard like the rest of the fielders, but from a shorter distance. Hopefully the MLB'ers practice that situation more, but I can't ever remember seeing anyone practice firing the throw to first from that side of the mound during infield practice or warm ups between innings.
  18. DeMarini's Juggernaut seems to be popular amongst several in our area, but it has a rather unique whip feeling when swinging that many can't get comfortable with. Haven't seen much of the others listed to help you on those. In our area/leagues, the two most popular ones this season (post >98mph grandfather expiring) - Combat's Anti-Virus and Miken's Recoil. The Anti-Virus needs essentially no break-in period like many of the recent composite releases, it has some durability concerns that you may want to avoid given your Easton experience, but is probably your best value for the pop it gives you. The Recoil is a little more pricey and takes a little longer to break in, but haven't heard of any durability issues in its limited time on the market (the Miken NRG has held up for several years, but is a notch lower on the pop & price scale). Edit: Didn't catch the "baseball" part in the title initially, my comments were based upon softball experience.
  19. As long as we're being wrong http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I think Crisp should get another one the next time the face each other. For me, he came across as a smug little punk who was trying to sound tough, after being the one that started the whole thing, in his post game interview. He costs his team a baserunner by "attempting" to steal a base (that he had no intention of being successful) because he's mad the guy blocked second base the time before - maybe that's what Youkilis and Ramirez were discussing... but I'd rather like to think it was a teammate finally telling Manny, "You've hit over 500 homeruns, act like you've done it before"
  20. Which, if this wasn't the silver lining thread, I would have to point out this would include an intrasquad game. So, I hope opponents don't get underestimated because of their record (like scrub pitchers with losing records and high ERAs)
  21. Get him some needed action to help keep sharp for when really needed in a tougher position (with a day off and then Sheets, shouldn't have a chance for awhile)
  22. I've been looking for a good place to use this analogy, and a relaxing game like today looks like a good opportunity to ponder. I was mediocre at best in my sports career... until I started coaching. The kids got me back into competing on the side (against a higher level of competition) and my results were much better. To be successful at teaching seemed to require a better understanding of the reasons and technicalities, especially the little things that get overlooked. I'd like to think there are some possible similarities with Kapler (and even Torres) who spent some time coaching and now have a little better approach to the game, as well as helping their teammates get better. Even if not truly the case, Kapler & Torres are my unsung heroes of the season so far.
  23. He did (and it still went out). If he had really hit it, it would have been in the third deck like this weekend.
