  1. The FSN directors must also be covering the radio broadcast... they missed the first pitch and then Parra's hit (until he was rounding second) coming back from commercial late. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  2. Cuz Gallardo is on the the DL.... gee, thanks for reminding us http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  3. Not sure of your tastes (or if all these exist since I left the Northwoods 8 years ago http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif): Would mini-golf be a comprise for both of you? Several in town, but I prefer Settler's Mill on Hwy 51 South (includes go karts & horse rides). Also some attractions on Hwy 70 West - Jim Peck's Wildwood Park/Zoo and Circle M Corral (more go karts, horses & mini-golf) I'm drawing a total blank on the name, but we used to get our canoe & sailboat parts at a place right on Hwy 51 in town, just North of Torpy Park. Some of those listed here, plus other possibilities - http://www.minocqua-area-resorts.com/supporting_members.asp I believe the Bearskin State Trail starts in Minocqua, and I'm sure parts of the Chequamegon National Forest are nearby PS - Nice catch with the Paul BRANYAN's http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. Hmmm... why couldn't an error be charged on that play? The runner appeared to tip-toe across home plate only after he saw the catcher drop the throw. Obviously I have no idea what plays looked like from the 30's-70's, but crediting 3 players with stolen bases on that play is just another reason for me to doubt the validity of comparing stats between the generations.
  5. I think there are probably a similar number of broken bats today, it's just that many of the old ash bats would break along the length and remain connected, whereas the newer maple models just explode. Bud seems to acknowledge that employees (and customers) are at a greater risk now, hopefully it won't take something worse than this for them to remedy the problem - http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-bats052908&prov=yhoo&type=lgns Sad that a team can pay players $10M+/year, but their insurance company doesn't step up to help with a $7K medical bill. I'd like to think if that happened in Milwaukee, the players would pass the hat and help out their fans (although it would probably be twisted into some legal admission of guilt).
  6. Couple stuff like that with a Gallardo injury and I'm starting to think things aren't aligning for the Brewers this season. Won't it be that much sweeter for the Wild Card Brewers to knock off the Cubs in the NLCS behind the just activated Gallardo?
  7. You can add me to the list, it was happening to me for about an hour during the game yesterday.
  8. Mostly opinion, but I believe scoring would go down. To get the most carry out of the ball, the bat should be contacting the ball at a downward angle to get the backspin, which is easier to do when down in the zone. There is also some minor assistance in adjusting to a pitch further down in the zone by dropping the bat with the assistance of gravity, rather than trying to lift it at the last split second. Can't think of where to get you much documentation on that theory right now, but a close similarity of increasing the height of the strike zone would be fastpitch softball, where several shows have studied the struggles of pro baseball players trying to catchup to a Jennie Finch pitch having to due with the change in contact points & angle (as the reaction time is quite similar for the slower but shorter pitch). While the riseball is not a real option in baseball, there might be some minor carryovers of trying to catch up with the high fastball. Edit: I'm out of town, so let me know how your listeners tear that theory apart http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  9. After some nice starts by Bush & Suppan, the bullpen (especially the long relievers) should be well rested... hopefully there won't be a lot of hesitation going to Villanueva or Dillard (or even Tavarez) at any early signs of tiring.
  10. Dale's at his daughter's graduation Way to close out the game boys! That's 3 in a row... we're streaking now!
  11. Awesome DP on the bunt, I assume... FSN strikes again http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif EDIT: At least they recognized their error and came back with some quick replays.
  12. If that isn't the best example of Bush league I don't know what is. Sorry, but I've gotta disagree with you on that one, jwill. Run out a pop-fly and it is not an issue. Hustle one of the few things every player is capable of bringing to the ball field and make the difference in a closely matched game. I'd only considered it bush league if the game was already a blowout and teams dialed down the aggressiveness to avoid additional risks. Bush league is letting fly balls drop so the opponent scores a run and avoid the mercy-rule limit so you can bat one more time, bush league is shooting the middle on a pitcher in rec league ball with a 12 run lead, bush league is knowingly bringing an illegal bat into play, bush league is anything that tries to injure or humiliate a team that is all ready being dominated.
  13. I was away from the computer all weekend and just catching up on everyone's thoughts on the details of this weekend's action. I heard the game on the radio so didn't get to see the question on television. This sounds like the Johnny Carson Carnac skit where we are suppose to guess the question when you give us the answer. A thread in the other forum has me thinking the question was - name the two Brewers most likely to make outs on the basepaths recently? Am I close?
  14. When trying to help teammates (and new umps) understand the infield fly rule, the easiest way I've found to help others grasp the rule is to think - if two baserunners can be forced out on the bases if not caught, then it applies (1st/2nd, 1st/2nd/3rd, but not not 1st/3rd, and less than two outs). More for lower level leagues, don't forget that runners can advance at their own risk (I've seen runners score when the ball drops alongside a fielder who quit trying once the ump called "infield fly, batter's out"). And I think you're right about the hustle by the batter being assumed on pop-outs. I belive there is a more obscure rule that allows an ump to call an out on an intentionally dropped ball, so a runner isn't hung out on looping line drives where the batter could still be "doubled up" even if running it out... I'm sure one of the more internet savvy members will be able to scrounge up the actual rule - somebody's gotta be up to the challenge. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. Parts of Aaron's family still lives there, as this 2nd/3rd hand report indicates his grandfather was among the injured. http://www.wausaudailyherald.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080527/WDH0101/305270041
  16. He double clutched and then threw high to Prince. But the inning before, he got the DP and saved a potential run by reacting great to a wicked hop behind him. So, I believe more than evened out for tonight.
  17. Should be safe - radio guys said Gagne was on a plane back to Milwaukee for more "tests".
  18. Would you be willing to consider purchasing Cubs merchandise? Anyone want to donate to outfitting FPC with some Cubs gear if it will help assure their collapse this season?

  20. Considering where the Brewers franchise stood at that time, I thought the Brewers made a pretty good haul with the Sexson trade (and don't recall Prince's emergence being apparent at that time). However, when Overbay got traded, it seemed a forgone conclusion that he needed to be moved to clear space for Prince, and any time it is known that someone needs to trade a player that their leverage is reduced. But you are right, it sure would have been nice find a way to keep that sweet swinging lefthanded doubles machine in the Brewers current lineup (unless you count that the same as TGJ filling that role on Sundayhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif).
  21. Sounds like Ned was a little upset with yesterday's blog - http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2008/05/20/yost-unhappy-with-blog-reports.aspx At least according to that same blog http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  22. I'd like to think that the potential 30-50 point improvements in BA/OBP/SLG from Weeks, Cameron, and Hall, would be as beneficial to the Brewers as the upgrade from Morgan Ensberg to a healthy Alex Rodriguez is for the Yankees.
  23. I'm back from the Silver Lining thread for a moment... at least the Brewers didn't get no-hit by the Red Sox this weekend, like the Royals just did tonight.
  24. Well, the Red Sox did take the NL's best last year and sweep them 4-0 in October. So that would put the Brewers at the level of National League Champions, right? OK... I'll head over to the Silver Lining Thread now.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/embarassed.gif
  25. I don't want shoot down anyone's ideas that are willing to think beyond the obvious choices, but I'm up in Wausau where the Woodchucks play, and haven't seen anything special out of Ganter that would indicate that he is ready to take it to the major league level. He seems to be doing well with instructing these young college players, similar to helping as an instructor in spring training, but I can't foresee him being able to do anymore with the current players than Yost does as a manager. I'd think if he has major league potential he'd start working his way through the minor league coaching ranks. (Not sure he wants to manage beyond this level, this independant league thing only seemed to peak his interest because his son was on the team.) My preference would be Don Money, but that would only make sense as on off-season change. So, my mid-season vote goes to Nick Leyva - he must of had some opposite thinking that got him removed from Yost's staff (only half kidding).
