  1. He did spend about 20% of last season at shortstop for St.Louis; but then again, he also took the mound for them (so he can play short, no comment on whether he can play short well). They're probably looking for (economic) versatility like they are losing from DeRosa.
  2. They certainly seem more enjoyable to watch, not exactly sure what...hustle, attitude, teamwork, effort, defense, coaching or whatever. If I didn't live 3 hours away, I'd really like to take advantage of this other promotion they have going for the next two weeks - get Joe Alexander elected to the dunk contest - $37 seats for $11.
  3. http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/ice-rink1.htm "The underlying technology behind indoor ice rinks is the same technology at work in refrigerators and air conditioners. If you've read How Refrigerators Work, than you understand the basic idea. The main difference in an ice rink, other than sheer size, is that the refrigerant doesn't cool the ice directly. Instead, it cools brinewater, a calcium-chloride solution, which is pumped through an intricate system of pipes underneath the ice. In most rinks, the pipes are embedded in a concrete or sand base"
  4. I got to see my parents, brothers & sister, and all the nieces & nephews... and some nice homemade & personal ornaments.
  5. You could always make your life easier by selecting the number that matches her birthdate... could help reduce the likelihood of missing any future birthdays if the number is memorable.
  6. My interpretation was, "remember when you thought it was warm enough to take off your hat & coat while working outside on this weekend...... gotcha sucker!"
  7. Sure, the Brewers turned down his $3.4M option, but if Mark Loretta can be signed for $1.4M - so, in a smaller role this year, what about Craig Counsell? (note: only half kidding)
  8. He has to. Or we have to offer him back to TB for $25K Hardly seems like a drop in the bucket of today's multi-million dollar guaranteed contracts... teams throw away a lot more than that buying out options nowadays. Anyone know how long those $25K/$50K rules have been in effect, and if MLB has made any recent statements why those numbers haven't been increased to parallel recent hikes payrolls? Thanks.
  9. One might think with Wisconsin's stereotype for deep frying just about anything, you'd see it around here more, but looks like NYC is the place to start looking - http://slice.seriouseats....10/deepfried_pizza_3.html
  10. Can't find much more details, but this sentence appears on many of the websites tracking player moves this offseason - "Jim Molony, of MLB.com, reports Milwaukee Brewers 3B Mike Lamb filed for free agency Thursday, Oct. 30."
  11. In 25 games against the Brewers - .236 AVG, .333 OBP, .404 SLG, .738 OPS He had better career numbers against the central teams that were typically below than the Brewers (PIT & CIN), and worse against the teams that typically finished above the Brewers during that time period (CHI, HOU, STL). For a full view, scroll down to opponents at his baseball-reference.com profile
  12. Used to look forward to McDonald's occassional cheddar melt offering, but haven't seen it in a while. Been getting my fill of Quizno's $5 roast beef & cheddar lately.
  13. Probably something they like to keep a bit discrete as there doesn't appear to be much readily available info on-line to share. But this older update from a since disconnected JSOnline story still appears pasted on a few other sites. I don't recall stories of any other investment changes over the past year, so looks like Mark's ownership group controls at least 75% of the team, but I can't help you with his percentage within that group. "L.A.-based Ares Management co-Founder & Managing Partner Tony Ressler and Leonard Green & Partners Managing Partner Jonathan Sokoloff were announced as investors in the Brewers' ownership group, "bringing to 12 the number of" identified investors in the team, according to Don Walker of the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. Team officials said that "well over 75% of ownership of the team is controlled by a subset of the ownership group" headed by Principal Owner Mark Attanasio. Walker notes Attanasio is joined in that subset by the Lubar family of Milwaukee and "four former owners in the Selig ownership group who rolled over their holdings" -- Chicago-based Madison Dearborn Chair & CEO John Canning Jr., Marcus Corp. Chair & CEO Stephen Marcus, Hometown Property Management President and AHL Milwaukee Admirals Owner Harris Turer and Uihlein/Wilson Architects President David Uihlein Jr. Ressler's brother, CIM Group Principal & Founder Richard Ressler, is also a member of the ownership group (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 4/27)."
  14. Henderson, Rice, Dawson, Raines & Blyleven
  15. You guys are overanalyzing this, once you consider everything & put all the numbers together, the choice was obvious. Way to stay humble - "I wasn't surprised at all," Pujols said. "You have to consider everything. You have to put all the numbers together."
  16. Sorry to 1982 on you guys again, but I believe it was Robin Yount in that year.
  17. Not to mention... a type "A" free agent http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gifhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=16391
  18. I know I'm treading in dangerous territory bring up 1982 again, but there was a hitting coach that year upon being moved into the managerial role during the season that lead his team to the World Series.
  19. Just wonder if I'm alone in my thinking that Jon McGlocklin is getting more bitter as an announcer each of the recent years? I'm trying to remain respectful of his status as an original Buck, starting the MACC fund, and all the time he has given from the announce booth over the past decades. BUT, it sure seems like he is quick (and loud) in pointing out the problems with the on court play of current players. I know the Bucks have done their share of stinking up the joint with recent teams, and I probably got spoiled with how Bob Uecker got us through those difficult late 90's - early 00's years, but it is becoming increasingly difficult for me to listen to the current Bucks television broadcasts.
  20. If Rob Deer can be a hitting instructor, then ____________________________ EDIT: Sorry, forgot the blue.
  21. Well, here's hoping that Sveum's blunt approach will be more effective than Skaalen's soft approach to getting guys to lay off (or at least go the other way with) the outside pitch with more consistency next year.
  22. Seems like the type of guy that will return to the Brewer payroll eventually........... as a coach.
  23. MVP voting awards points through top ten places, with Ford getting one 9th place vote that year.
  24. Habitat for Humanity - and you don't even need to know how to swing a hammer, there are many opportunities to learn, provide a second set of hands, landscape, provide lunch, etc. And if sports and/or outdoors is your thing, maybe a local summer camp or youth sports league needs some help.
