  1. Yeah Garland is a fine pitcher, but I don't think he's worth near the money he'll get. Would he be any better than Bush/McClung/Villanueva? Probably not much. I'd rather spend that money on a guy who can be a 1-2 in the rotation.
  2. Garland is 29 and has logged more than 190 IP in each of the last 7 years (4 times over 200) and got paid $12 million last year. I don't see him getting paid less going forward.
  3. Link This is the second time I've read that Garland is "predicted" to be signed by the Brewers (the first time by MLBTR). I have to ask why? Garland seems like Suppan, V. 2.0 to me. Considering Sheets might cost less (in money and years), I would 100% much rather go that route. I guess I'm in the camp that feels you should only pay significant amounts of money on top-notch pitching, not league-average talent. Anyone like Garland as a Brewer, or heard that he's on the Brewer's radar?
  4. I have to disagree. At least down here, early voting was only offered at the County Clerk's office. I attempted to vote early last week and the line was at least 200 people deep and was not moving. I got there about an hour before polls closed, so I decided to wait until this morning. The line was very short and moved quickly. The whole process took less than 20 minutes. I suppose it all depends on the location and timing though.
  5. The Red Sox clearly need to update their clubhouse.
  6. Here ya go... Link "Doug Melvin is on his way to Phoenix to meet with Sveum to interview him for the club's managerial job." JSOnline
  7. With those comments, I bet Dusty Baker would LOVE to have Hart play for him. Hart for Bruce straight up!
  8. Is it strange that I'm kind of glad its up to Counsell and Kendall to get 'em in?
  9. Not that it probably matters a whole lot, but according to Brenly's Wiki page, he signed a 4 year extension 3 days ago to keep broadcasting Cubs games.
  10. That's funny that you mention Mo's. I was at Saturday's game (Sheets gem vs. Peavy) and we were staying downtown and settled on Mo's after the game. We got there and looked across the bar and who was sitting on the other side? Mister Ben Sheets out celebrating his victory. It was very cool, kind of surreal. A couple friends congratulated him, but I just observed from afar. He spent most of the night playing those bar computer games (the one where you pick out 5 differences in 2 different photos). About an hour or two after we got there, Mike Adams showed up and hung out with Ben. That was cool because we were talking to Mike the whole game in the bullpen.
  11. LaRussa has done an amazing job, but if you don't make the playoffs I don't think you get this award. It's not like the Cardinals won 65 games last year. I agree datrain.....the site will indeed implode. edit: to clarify, I know managers have won with out going to the post season, I just don't see Yost or Lou getting passed up for Larussa
  12. I am in no way a huge supporter of Ned Yost, but I've found myself cursing his name less and less the last couple of months. Amazing what winning can do to a guy's attitude. I seem to remember Ned's name getting tossed around last summer as a top candidate for Manager of the Year before our collapse late in the season. So.....why not this year? As I see it, he only has one other competitor, and that's Piniella. If the Cubs win 100 games or so, I can see Lou getting the award. But if the Brewers finish with 90-95 wins and get the Wild Card, is Ned a shoe-in? The Cubs were picked by most writers as the NL Central favorites, if not the NL pennant favorites. The Brewers lost some of their "trendy-pickedness" that they had entering 2007 and some writers even picked us to finish behind the Reds! Does Ned deserve it? I think so. He's kept the team on a pretty even keel the whole season. After a rough start, the Brewers didn't panic and haven't really endured a long rough stretch since.
  13. Did Russell Branyan drink Ned Yost's coffee or something?
  14. Nor would we or any team offer 7 years. He'll possibly get 6 and in the 120s, but I highly doubt 7. I'd love to have him though. edit: didn't mean to sounds rude. I just think teams have learned from the Giants mistakes (Zito)
  15. This site seems to give LOB per game. And it seems up to date with the other stats they offer. 7.1 LOB per game * 115 games played thus far = 816 edit: oops link http://www.sbrforum.com/MLB+Betting+Stats.aspx
  16. ugh, I am annoyed by this. They aren't showing any game shots between pitches. Still, seems like a really good cause so I shouldn't complain too much I suppose.
  17. The Reds announcers noted that Homer does a terrible job at keeping runners close. Although that was a pretty close play at 3rd. A double steal most likely came from the dugout, no?
  18. At 71 pitches, I think Soup's chances of pitching into the 7th are greater than him getting pulled after 5.
  19. You must have never had the pleasure of listening to Bill pine about how hugely difficult it is to stay sharp when you get 2-3 starts per month
  20. Manny was upset. He went from pitching a gem to getting lit up over 2 innings time. If he needs to go into the clubhouse to gain some composure for half an inning thats A-OK with me.
  21. Manny took it like a Man (get it). He didn't overreact, he didn't stomp off crying, he didn't throw a temper tantrum. Good for him -- he looked literally shocked though. Most everyone who has been "in the game" seems to agree that these things happen and it isn't a huge deal. It could turn out to be a positive, or if real chemistry problems exist, it just exposed those. I also like JJ letting Prince know it wasn't acceptable....
  22. anyone have a video link for this bad boy? I watched most of the game, but missed this particular gem. Thanks edit: nevermind. just saw it on BTN
  23. Also, the Dodgers can offer Manny arbitration and net some draft picks this off-season. I think the only real loser here is Boston. But they do get similar production at a fraction of the cost. But isn't Moss a pretty decent prospect to give up?
  24. Ha. Thank you for that. Go crew---I still believe!
