  1. Why not Penny? I can't imagine he'd cost very much. I like his chances of posting a sub 4.0 ERA this year. I'd give him around $7M with an option on a 2nd year. Mulder, Penny and taking a chance on a guy like Sheets/Harden/Bedard would be great (assuming we could get all that at the right price)
  2. Bourn is not a bad comparison and he's 3 years older than Gomez. Gomez has at least shown the ability to take a walk here and there in the minor leagues. In 2006 (AA) he hit .281/.350/.423 (and added 41 SBs) In 2007 (AAA) he hit .287/.366/.412 It's obviously taking him a while in the majors, but he might put it together. Just trying to stay optimistic.
  3. Gomez has a 0.292 career OBP in the majors. He'll be batting 8th (or 9th) unless he figures out how to hit and walk. Weeks will probably lead off until Escobar figures out the same. Boy this team is losing a lot of power and OB skills going from Cam/Hardy to Escobar/Gomez. We can NOT afford to have Kendall in this line up too. We need a legitimate bat in there. Please give the job to Salome edit: typo
  4. The Sox will need a second baseman now. Hopefully they don't sign Felipe as they pick 13th in next June's draft and won't net us a 1st rounder. They could move Ramirez back to 2nd and Beckham to SS and shop for a third baseman though.
  5. This is the type of risk I'd like to see the Brewers make with trading Hardy. As Dave points out, "The Brewers have coveted Morrow for years, and they probably won't get a better arm in return for Hardy." Has anyone heard how Morrow is dealing with his diabetes? That is apparently why he left the rotation at the beginning of the year. He must have it under control because they put him back in to the rotation.
  6. I'd also recommend checking out a Subaru. All-wheel drive is very nice in winter time and I get decent mileage in mine. I have an Impreza wagon which is probably a little smaller than what your looking for, but an Outback or Forester might be big enough for you.
  7. Hart for sure. I wish Hart would just be the everyday lead off hitter from now on, but a Counsell-Kendall-Pitcher bottom of the order is pretty punchless.
  8. If Gamel stays up after interleague play I would hope he'd be starting at least 5 days a week while getting replaced defensively late in close games. What is more likely is that he'll get sent down after the Twins series and get called back up before the June 12th series against the White Sox and the rest of interleague.
  9. Has there been any official word? I know TH has speculated that Hall will play 3rd with Counsell and McG splitting time at 2nd, but I'm still holding out hope for Gamel getting nearly full time at 3rd and Hall and Counsell splitting time at 2nd (post interleague).
  10. I am constantly spelling Bob Uecker's last name wrong because I play so much Euchre.
  11. I remember watching Detroits crew on MLBtv when Verlander blanked us. They never mentioned it, though their cameras were on him in the dugout and they panned the 0's on the scoreboard on occasion. I thought that was an appropriate way to let people know what was going on without coming out and saying it.
  12. Here's a timely blog post from FanGraphs: Nelson's Sweet Swing
  13. This is my 3rd year with MLB TV. I have the premium package. I didn't watch any spring games, but am watching now and the quality seems so much better than it was last year. Very little skipping and the quality is very clear. I'm watching 2 games and once and its pretty awesome (you can watch up to 4 at once).
  14. Harang threw 115 pitches in 5 innings. Dusty's in mid-season form.
  15. 2008 Prince does NOT make that play. Nicely done, sir
  16. T Bone - Did you get this resolved? Or did you have to totally cancel your Yahoo email? I ask because a similar thing just happened to my girlfriend. I'm a little concerned because of this conficker worm going around.
  17. The season can not start soon enough for Corey and JJ
  18. Checking TH's blog before checking BF.net? The April Fools jokes just keep rolling in http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Well done TBWS
  19. Get a puppy. Even after they develop some bladder control, the latest you'll sleep in is 6 am.
  20. Anyone know when teams HAVE to put a player on the DL? I'm waiting for the Yanks to put Arod on the DL so I can pick someone else up. I would think the week leading up to the opener, he'll go on the DL, right?
  21. My girl scout cookies have come. One box down. No razor blades yet. More to come if that changes.
  22. I think you're reading too much into this. Macha is probably just using hyperbole to make a point that he's in Jason's corner. I'm sure he gets asked a lot about the so-called tensions he and Kendall had in Oakland and this is just Macha throwing a compliment Jason's way.
