  1. I'm expecting high-school lefty Keegan Thompson to go right around where the Brewers select in the first round. While he's not listed quite that high on most mocks HS pitchers sometimes take a bump when their season gets going (Henry Owens, Addison Russell, etc). He may be a guy to go after.
  2. Take it or leave it, but Baseball Nation's Ken Neadly reporting that the Brewers are still involved in Hamilton talks. I still don't see it. http://mlb.sbnation.com/2012/12/3/3725032/josh-hamilton-rumors-red-sox-brewers
  3. Ding ding ding! The seems-like-its-yearly Rich Harden mention! No thanks though. Harden is the poster-boy for can't stay healthy.
  4. If there are people out there worried about Hamilton's "decline in production" I'm going to question if they even know how baseball is played. Josh Hamilton 2012 AB: 562 HR: 43 RBI: 128 BB: 60 OPS: .930
  5. Sean Burnett is on the top of my offseason wishlist and I don't think it's close. I honestly would rather sign Dempster, Burnett, and another starter than sign Hamilton.
  6. I tweeted out last night that Jungmann for Walden would be reasonable. I'm only waffling a bit re-visiting that thought today but it might get it done. The Angels farm system is baaaad.
  7. No one thinks that Kentrail Davis is a prime candidate to be selected? He's not that far away, has some upside, is a left-handed hitter, and held his own in double-A. I'm betting some team takes a stab at him. (I'm also betting he comes right back to the Brewers when he doesn't stick on the 25-man too though...)

  9. I heard Dickey on the MLB Radio Network this afternoon. What a stand up guy! Intelligent too. Spoke much about the "craft" of being a knuckleball pitcher. About the struggle going to the knuckleball and the patience the Mets showed with him and that they supported him in this venture. A really great interview from which I came away with a phenomenal impression. That being said.... I want absolutely no part of a 38-year old knuckleball-artist in Miller Park.
  10. Except that after writing the check to Hamilton you'd....still have the prospects.
  11. Who exactly was comparing Olt to Ryan Braun or Ryan Zimmerman? I said "an RBI-producing 3B'man without glove issues", not "one of the great bats in the modern-era". See the difference? I'm thinking more a Mike Lowell type; who still trumps an average-fielding low-power second-baseman that MAY steal 30 one day. I like Segura and I would have selected him as well based on team need, but if he can't stay at short his value takes a tremendous hit. Now you have a worse-fielding Howie Kendrick on your hands...
  12. Although I don't think it's as far away as some of the other responses, I'd still take Segura. Let's be clear here though, an RBI producing third-baseman without glove issues trumps a 15-HR second-baseman. It's really about if Segura's defense holds up at SS.
  13. Pretty much the nice way of saying "We don't know what we're going to get from the guy mentally day-in-and-day-out. The angel in me is nervous about the Hamilton rumors while the devil in me wants to see him right behind Braun in the linuep.
  14. From the MLBTR post Mudville9 linked: "The right-hander has fallen out of favor with some in the organization." Bauer by all accounts is still a top 10 prospect. You don't "sauer" on a top ten prospect. You say you do to dangle him out there to see what type of return you can get at the Gm Meetings. I'm not saying that Bauer won't be traded from the D'Backs as they have incredible front-line prospect pitching depth. I'm just saying that the people tossing out these rumors need to realize that Bauer is still the equivalent of gold in the prospect world; a possible front-line starter who's under financial control for years. It would still take a lot to get Bauer.
  15. The D'Backs haven't "soured" on Bauer. Bauer is still a huge prospect capable of commanding a good return and who is under financial control for years. I am not sure if we offered Gallardo for Bauer straight up they would do it. And I am not stating that I want to trade Gallardo. Gennett for Bauer is not realistic. They aren't in the same league as prospects. If you believe they are, you are overvaluing Gennett.
  16. Revisiting this, I am still pretty sold that Gallardo is simply untouchable. The ONLY way I can see them dealing Gallardo this offseason is if a sure-fire, slam-dunk top prospect (and then some). And the prospect would have to fit our near and long-term plans. Off the top of my head, it would take the prospect-level of Oscar Tavaras, Billy Hamilton, Wil Myers-types.
  17. There was. But I'm sure glad at this point that we went after Coultier. A 37/40 BB/K ratio out of a Catcher who looks like he could stick there and who could only add power is super exciting. And I'm also from the point-of-view that his draft-mate Victor Roache will put up scary power numbers. This time next season the Brewers system could be mighty attractive.
  18. Gallardo is on pace to eclipse 200K's for the 4th straight year with a respectable ERA under a pretty friendly contract. Yo is more than a "nice" pitcher.
  19. I'm not sure the D'Backs would give us Bauer and Skaggs alone for Yo and Hart much less with Upton. Those two will be under financial control for the next six years.
  20. The same thing happened to Madison Bumgarner if I remember. Not a college lefty but went through a dead-arm period at about the same age.
  21. Makes no sense to me. And if the Red Sox were to make this up to create leverage you'd think they would be smarter than to pick the Brewers.
  22. Does anyone else see it coincidental that the Dodgers got Hanley and are already saying he's moving back to SS? Dee Gordon anyone? I just have a feeling. http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/story/_/id/8200693/los-angeles-dodgers-hanley-ramirez-starts-3b-plans-shift-shortstop
  23. Hmm. You'd think Scioscia may like a veteran-presence who's brother is also on the team.
  24. Pretty sure that locking Braun, Gallardo, Lucroy (and Weeks) to longer deals confirms that Melvin/Mark had our long-term outlook in mind. At least to me it does.
