  1. Facing a kid making his first major league start if I am seeing it correctly. Historically speaking, I'm expecting Deck to go 6 2/3 and give up 3 H and 1 ER ... here's to hoping I'm wildly incorrect!
  2. The Brewers are 1 game out of the wild card race and the highest batting average in our lineup is .277 - what a year.
  3. The cherry on top of these last 2 games is that the Cubs are basically going to have the division sewn up by the end of the series. So they have 4 coming up against St Louis, and instead of those being important games for the Cubs, they can essentially shift into cruise control and start lining up their pitching matchups for the playoffs, resting their top relievers and position players, etc. So not only have we hurt ourselves, we've actually helped the Cardinals in the Wild Card race by softening up their schedule for the last week. So let's hypothetically say we split these last two, as do the Cardinals. The Cubs would have a 5 game lead on St. Louis afterwards. You believe - after enduring 7 months of a baseball season - heading into a 4 game series against the only team that can take the division from them - the Cubs are going to lay down/rest? Give St. Louis any chance to get momentum and take the season down to the final game? The Cubs will play hard until math tells them they don't have to. Don't fool yourself. The Brewers haven't done themselves any favors the last 3 nights but don't be this way..
  4. The paranoia here is really funny to me. I appreciate that some of you hurt so badly when things don't go our team's way and I mean that genuinely ... but this has been a remarkable season, hard for me to be mad at how things are finishing. I am not saying one way is better than the other but it is hard for me to get emotionally distraught at a bunch of young kids for not winning a made up game against another group of young kids. This game is hard. I don't think these guys go up to the plate wanting to swing at bad pitches, wanting to walk guys, wanting to not put the ball in play with a runner on 3rd, etc. Game is hard. Sometimes we swing and miss. Sometimes the other pitcher throws a really good pitch. Sometimes the umpires see a strike that isn't and vice versa. I appreciate that some expect greatness and are hurt when it doesn't happen ... I just hope those of you that do are not missing out on the beauty that this season has been. Lowest payroll in baseball, lowest expectations in baseball, and we pushed one of the biggest spenders in the game down the wire and now their fans are coming to our message board to troll us. Feels kind of good to get that form of 'respect', no? We will see how the rest of the season plays out - still a few games left and we can make it happen. But either way, try to enjoy it and keep the blood pressure in check. Cheers.
  5. We can fire him after the season if we can find someone who isn't scared to win. How do you think Bill Belichick would handle something like that, a player in a week 16 game, tied playing for the division title and they run the wrong route? He would probably tell him to run the right route next time. Also, you have Mike Holmgren in your list of coaches who didn't put up with mental mistakes and that guy's QB was Brett Favre.
  6. Knee jerk reaction much? Counsell has a 60 win team in the playoff hunt with less than 2 weeks to play.. yeah, let's get rid of him. This is speaking to everyone ... from now on can we please take a deep breath before posting the first thing that comes to mind on this thread? Some of us only have the gameday up and need explanations of what happened so we come here and it gets a little tiresome to have to read a lot of emotional responses. Just a thought. It is just your opinion that CC is the reason we have more wins than some random computer model thought we "should" have had. Is Counsell out there hitting HRs? Has CC been shutting teams out on the mound? Reminds me of all the people around here who thought RRR was automatically a great manager because we won 96 games, and then he goes on to give 3 playoff starts to Marcum and put Mark Kotsay in CF. Has CC ever, and I mean once ever, held a player accountable for a horrible AB with the tying/winning run on 3rd with less than 2 outs? Now I know almost every major manager or coach are equally worthless, but every once in a while you have a winner. We have been lucky around here with guys like Bo Ryan, Barry Alvarez, Mike Holmgren and of course Vince Lombardi. Did these winners tolerate mental mistakes and foolish play? No, they did not. CC just lets it happen Ok, so were you just aggressively pushing a point home or do you really want Craig Counsell dismissed after the game for the mistake Shaw made? I need clarification before I continue.

  8. I realize this is coming off of him hitting a home run and with fresh memories of his cannon throws ... but I am really comfortable with Phillips in centerfield.
  9. gamecast here. no ruling yet. my assumption is knebel threw the ball away?
  10. I understand the pitcher wasn't throwing strikes... but Counsel pinch hit 4 consecutive batters there and all reached. Have to tip the cap when earned. Took the lead back.
  11. They said on the radio Jeffress was hitting 97 tonight. A lot of people thought the decreasing velo was a big reason for his troubles in the last 12 months. If there really is just some comfort here that lets Jeffress excel... what a time for him to gain his confidence and help our team. The 6th inning in the playoffs will be a really important one.
  12. I'll give him credit because he's played well of late and it's been much needed but his batting average isn't his issue. No, I understand. I wish the guy could take a pitch as well. His swing first approach can get aggravating ... but we have certainly had worse bench guys in recent memory
  13. That son of a gun Perez, who can play every position, is flirting with .270...
  14. Wow, just digested that Thames has 29 home runs and 55 RBIs. What is the record for fewest RBIs in a 30 home run season? This has to be close, yes?
  15. What is the over/under on stolen bases against Vogt tonight? Gotta be 3.5 right?
  16. Well, depending on what offense we brought with us tonight .. that might be enough for them.
  17. Yes, although looking at the weather forecasts you can play percentages where they look good. For example, in Baltimore there looks like there might be rain Friday but gone by the evening and then clear through the weekend so the likelihood of getting a 3 game series in seems high.
  18. What I’d prefer against the lefty: Santana RF Walker 2B Braun LF Shaw 3B Aguilar 1B Perez CF Pina C Arcia SS Woodruff P What will likely happen: Perez CF Walker 2B Braun LF Shaw 3B Santana RF Thames 1B Pina C Arcia SS Woodruff P
  19. I'm not saying you are wrong... but this is downtown Miami as of yesterday morning: http://people.com/human-interest/dramatic-video-shows-irma-waves-breaking-through-miami-seawall-and-completely-flooding-streets/ I'm not sure that can be cleaned up by Friday?
  20. If the series was moved to Milwaukee the Cubs would lose their minds… but it would be a little sweet justice for them moving two games on us to try and manipulate the scheduling.
  21. Let's bring back the Zach Davies offense today! Come on boys..
  22. Those watching the game... injury related to Nelson?
  23. It has been a minute since we have seen the first inning offense. Here is to hoping
