  1. I guess I don't understand either. Should we blame David Stearns for our lack of success in the late 90's when Stearns was 12-13 years old? Generally speaking, sure we can be tired of 30+ years of a lot of nothing as fans.... but that has nothing to do with our current GM or current situation and using that as a base for being upset for not going after a free agent(s), if you are implying that, is kind of silly I think. If you are not implying that, then this is the wrong forum for that thought. This is a rumor and proposal board. General venting should be done elsewhere. It was just a simple answer to the question that is titled in the thread. If you don't care for it, move on. Amazing what we get hung up on around here. I've already stated that I am good with Stearns and his approach but that doesn't mean I have a bunch of patience for losing. Those ideas can live within the same world. I'm not mad at you man, but you are allowed to have an opinion on something but I have to move on and not give my own? Super great. Thanks!

  3. The Brewers just more or less told every pitcher out there that all they have to do is out pitch Yovani Gallardo to be in our rotation until Nelson comes back. Whether I like the idea or not, I would argue we are a great option for him if he is serious about wanting a major league job.
  4. Well, shoot. If you have this season already figured out and we are destined for mediocrity should we even suit up and play it?
  5. I want T Plush roaming in CF again. But, for real, I actually had to think for almost 10 seconds to what T Plush's real name is...
  6. Adrian Gonzalez immediately designated for assignment.
  7. I know some around here are smitten on getting Samardzjia+ in a potential OF trade ... I'd assume this would make that less likely as they just lost one of their rotation arms.
  8. This thread title gave me anxious flashbacks to EVERY SINGLE OFFSEASON AS A PACKERS FAN. Teams sign guys. GB doesn't (2017 withstanding). Fans go crazy.
  9. A lot of people read Moneyball and what they learned was that OBP was important. I think what you wrote here was the most important point the book made. Every player is important in their own way. The market will continue to change and overvalue some players or positions while undervaluing others. The key is to determine what is undervalued and stock up on that, while "selling high" on overvalued assets. Since the Royals made two straight World Series, everyone has been gaga over relief pitchers. The Brewers were able to capitalize on this in several trades during the rebuild, but if the price tag has now become too high, I won't be upset if Stearns uses his resources to buy some undervalued players. This. Building baseball teams is just like the stock market. Hard to do, but the blueprint is simple. Buy low, sell high. Ride the bulls when you find 'em. Value > Perception.
  10. I didn't know Anthony Swarzak would cause such a reaction. I suggest everyone breathe a little. Winter is just getting started and baseball doesn't start until the spring. Our roster will be different when spring training starts. Knebel last year was a "he deserves a chance to get meaningful outs" guy and ended up being a top 10 closer. I feel we have at least one of those on our team right now (not saying a top 10 guy). I'm not losing sleep over Anthony Swarzak. Stearns has been good/great in his tenure here. I would offer he deserves a little bit of slack?
  11. We won't know that until we give him a chance at this level. Hader most commonly had 5+ inning starts in the minors that many are referencing and he only threw 80-85 pitches in those starts, if given 100 pitches to work with he'd likely go 6+...which is plenty. There will absolutely be times that Hader and Woodruff have shorter starts(also will be times that Anderson/Davies have shorter starts), that's why we'll likely have an 8 man bullpen. Minor league teams do not have as much ability to work a pitch count like Hader can be worked, though. Also, minor league teams could have lefties in the lineup because they're trying to develop them. Major league teams will stack the lineups with righties. Also, a guy that doesn't have varied stuff like Hader could get hit even harder the 2nd/3rd time around as CHL said. I'm not necessarily arguing with you, but you are using hypotheticals to make your argument. He might get hit harder a 2nd time through the lineup. He could face less lefties in the big leagues, etc. If Andrew Miller is his calling, then great. Glad to have him on the roster. He also could be Chris Sale. Probably worth finding out?
  12. My assumption is that the lack of activity or serious rumors surrounding Milwaukee and the reliever market means that we are anticipating filling those roles with internal guys, Williams being at the top of the "step up to the plate" list. I'd be happy with a veteran 7th inning guy to supplement ... but am fully anticipating a handful of big league invite types to battle it out with the Wang, Williams, Wilkerson, Barnes, etc group to earn jobs. I also have a feeling the Brewers are comfortable for at least one more season with Hader as a set up man IF they don't feel comfortable with their options in the pen ... so there isn't much panic to sign a big contract or name because a Jeffress, Hader, Knebel final three should suffice just fine. Just my hunch.
  13. If it's Santana .. we better get a haul back. If it is Broxton (I think the most likely) ... I'm assuming decent value in return and what a flip that will be by Stearns. If we can fill a starting rotation spot for Keon (or Santana for that matter) our roster will start to fill up really nicely. Will be an exciting year.
  14. If we are trying to compare the two, I will say one way Suter is not like Doug Davis ... Start a stopwatch and Suter will have thrown 4 pitches by the time Davis is winding up for his second. Doug Davis might have been the slowest worker I've ever seen. I dreaded his starts for that reason alone.
  15. Just hearing the smoke coming out of Marlins Park that they are shedding all money and starting new ... we seem to be a great partner for a guy like Yelich. Brinson is the type of prospect a team like that wants to develop, throw in something else as dressing and get the deal done.
  16. I hope we sign 40 of these types of guys to these types of contracts.
  17. A couple of questions: I tried reading into what the Braves did but "circumventing the system" via under the table benefits, tampering, etc was all I could find. Is there more to it than just that? (not to say that isn't a bad offense)... Secondly, I'm assuming international pool money will have to be used to sign these guys just as if they were being courted all over again? Thirdly, does anyone have enough grasp of the Braves system/these prospects to have a read on whether we should be interested in any of them (beyond Maitan)? I feel like the Brewers have made multiple trades in the past 2 or 3 years simply for extra international money... I could be wrong.
  18. I thought that at first as well but being < 300 away he had AT LEAST 2 seasons to go and if the decline he felt this year was not an anomaly... like 3. Playing into your 43rd year is a lot to ask for most. I know this isn't a stat and I'm not sure how it compares to others concerning HOF consideration ... but he did receive MVP votes is 7 of his 20 seasons (and 3 of his non years he was traded halfway through). I'd assume that is a gold star on the resume..
  19. That story reminds me of going to Appleton to see a John Jaha rehab appearance back in the 90s. I only remember one other player on the field that day: Bucky Jacobsen was playing in the outfield. "Moneyball" used to talk about the eyeball test; Jaha and Jacobsen just looked physically different from all the other guys. I thought for sure he'd be a major leaguer. ...and he was, albeit ever so briefly. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=2368&position=1B/DH Not sure if he got hurt during that year with Jack Z's Mariners, or why he never played in the majors again after that season. Not sure how many rehab games John Jaha went on in Appleton ... but I don't think it was many and I was at this game I believe. I remember Jaha popping out and getting hit by a pitch. I also remember a line drive going into the stands and hitting a woman in the face. Off topic, but you saying that brought back some memories.
  20. Not only that .. but if 30,000 fans are in attendance and you are doing a quick glance around the stadium ... how many fans are currently walking around the ballpark/standing in a concession line/bathroom/left early, etc? Couple thousand? Just seems a stretch to accuse the Brewers of fraud.
  21. I appreciate the passion of the OP but that post was hard to read. I don't agree with the majority of it. Thank you for starting another thread on our feelings towards this last year. The Brewers state ticket sales for games. If 31,000 tickets are sold and 23,000 people show up... do you want them to announce 2 numbers? Tickets sold and number of people that walked through the gate? Thank you for spending your money at Miller Park Rick. Sorry the team couldn't fulfill the remainder of your desires. Yikes.
  22. I liked Vogt - and I can't speak on his ability to call a game/handle a pitching staff - but how difficult will it be to get a .250+ hitting catcher with a bit of power who is even an average defender to be our back up to save a few million?
  23. Granted Thames had a few LF starts and these are pinch hit numbers included... but our first base production this year between the two was a .254 average with 47 HRs, 115 RBIs, with an OPs somewhere in the .860 range. We could do a lot, lot worse.
  24. Its fine during a rebuild phase & when determining what are best outcomes in other areas of need (even optimistically there are still multiple areas of need w/ the Crew). However, if this club is looking to contend, it needs a better option at 1st or at least a better platoon partner for Thames. Jesus is the definition of AAAA player. Some short spurts of success here & there but barely replacement level over the course of a season/ multiple seasons. You may or may not be right long term ... but this is just a weird thing to say right now. He just finished his first full season and was a 1.3 WAR which by definition means he was above replacement level and worthy of a bench role this year. I would also be looking for a stud in order to seriously contend - but don't say silly things just to make a point.
