  1. It has to be noted that when you are getting these stamps you have to keep your receipts from the gas station to prove your purchases. It says it on the cards but it is small print and I missed it the first time through. I had filled up a few cards and had sent them it to get tickets last year but I was denied because I didn't have the receipts. *tear* Just FYI.
  2. Normally I would agree with you for lineups that need extra production... but given the makeup of what will be the Brewers lineup (the 2-6 hitters can put up runs quickly) ... any kind of production out of the 3rd base slot will be a bonus for me. If Bill Hall can become Bill Hall of once upon a time this is a moot point... cause he will be playing everyday... but Counsell had the 3rd highest OBP on the team last year behind Durham and Fielder... and if the guy can get on base, it really doesn't bother me how he does it. If Counsell can go 1-3 with a walk or 0-2 with two walks consistently and help clear the pitcher spot the first few times through the order... I think that is helping the team, and often enough I'd rather have that than have Lamb go 2-4 with a HR and 2 RBI's and then go 0-4 two straight games.
  3. Can anyone confirm that Counsell hasn't, in fact, taken PED's over the last few months? Sveum makes him change his stance and he is hitting at a .600 clip through spring thus far... and it hasn't all been off of minor league arms either... today's first inning double and run came off of last year's AL Cy Young winner. Counsell already has one of the best OBP's on the team... with a .230 average. If he can prove his new stance is going to raise his average... me thinks Mike Lamb is going to have a hard time making the team...
  4. If making the team... Nelson wouldn't even see the outfield all too often. His spot starts would come at first base... and we would rarely see him spot Corey Hart. Otherwise, Duffy is going to be the primary backup outfielder. Hart, Cameron, and especially Braun won't see a lot of time on the bench this year. Nelson is a very nice lefty off the bench late in games... and I hope to see him, McGahee, and Duffy earn the final 3 bench spots.
  5. Is it a sign that when I saw this story break on ESPN, my first thought was "How long is he out and is it possible to trade Hall to them?" ... and then I came on here and saw that Olney and Gammons are thinking the same thing. If Hall could be moved... I think we are getting a Braun situation all over again if Gamel can recover quick from this slow spring start. Lamb/McGahee = Counsell/Graffanino and I think we would only put up with that offense for so long... cause we are going to need to score runs this year.
  6. I will admit that I have never really browsed the IGT in season ... but if you guys are being disheartened by the rule changes... once the season starts just log in and join us all in the live chat during games. It's hilarious and almost always filled with informative and well-rounded fans. If you are watching the game by yourself, it makes it much more enjoyable... IMO
  7. I was under the impression that Macha has made it clear that Yo wouldn't be throwing opening day to alleviate any additional pressure of him knowing he is the staff ace.
  8. Do we know what our 3rd base situation is? Is it Hall's job to lose or will it be a straight platoon once he comes back?
  9. I know this is early... we are a month and change away yet... but I'm trying to eye up our first series and decide how it will fall. Lincecum vs Suppan Cain vs Gallardo Johnson vs Parra We beat up Johnson pretty good last year and given his nerves pitching for a new team I'm not too worried about that 3rd game. Cain and Gallardo should be good, and the first game is about as lopsided as an opening day pitching matchup can be. A few questions. Will 3rd base be a true platoon from the get go or will it be Bill Hall's job to lose? If a straight platoon, Bill Hall won't see starting action until The Big Unit takes the mound. The Giants starting staff is actually very impressive (sans Zito) ... but their bullpen looks like it could be a weakness. Get the starters out of there early! I am of the opinion that our AAA lineup is more formidable than the Giants opening day lineup... so as long as Gallardo and Parra don't implode, I think we are safe looking for 2 out of 3. Thoughts?
  10. Can someone who has Time Warner Cable help me out? The network website says Time Warner carries it and it should be free... it is channel 107 on my TV... but it keeps telling me that I need to order it for it to be available. I called TWC twice and both of their operators had no idea what I was talking about... had no idea what the MLB network was ... Help?
  11. http://mywritetothink.com/?p=12 Hey. I hadn't written any articles in a long time and this site had been dormant for awhile... so I vented a little in the form of an article today. It might be a little long, sorry. Let me know what you think.
  12. Actually... Logan... that's a perfect idea. If you order the Brewers' plates... you get a 4 pack of tickets to a Rattler game. (Conveniently a first time Brewers affiliate..) I would bet a lot of people would get on board with that idea... and that way we are helping out the Rattlers, the Brewers, and we get custom plates and a game out of it. Someone make the call.
  13. Seriously... Suppan's contract kills me. I hear Suppan is a nice guy, and $12.5 million dollars is a lot of money. Can't he give a portion of that back to the club to give us some room to make some in season moves? Making 12.5, he won't miss 3 million dollars... but it would help the club immensely. I wish players would do that... turn around and offer the ballclub an incentive laden deal. "If we have the division lead June 1st, I'll give $500,000 back to the team. If we are in the NL top 5 in team ERA at the all-star break... I'll give back 1 million..." Wishful thinking.
  14. Very cool. I live in Appleton too. It has to be the same marathon I would assume. May 31st is the day.
  15. Hey everyone. Season's almost here... I can see parts of my lawn! Anyway, I recently joined an organization called Team in Training.. and through them I am running a marathon this May in San Diego to raise money for LLS. LLS is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and money raised goes towards research and assistance (such as co-payments and whatnot) for families who are struggling and have been stricken with some type of blood cancer. If you could take a minute to look at my site... I would appreciate it. If there is a chance you could make a donation... a lot of people would benefit. Thank you. http://pages.teamintraining.org/wi/rnr09/jfannin You should look up LLS' website to learn about the organization.. it's legit. LLS.org Also, if anyone here is a runner, you should check out Team in Training... it's a great program and cause. TeaminTraining.org Thank you! Jake
  16. I love the move. Our bullpen would have been taxed to death with Gallardo, Parra, and McClung routinely only going 5 or 6 innings. Even though Bush, Suppan, and Looper are not the "aces" a staff wants... they can go 7 or 8 innings whenever needed... and I believe our offense is good enough to win games when our starting pitching gives up 4, 5, or even 6 runs ... Everything about our pitching staff (starters and bullpen and lower level depth) will improve because of this. Using Seth as the long man and having Villa as a set-up is much better than Villa being long and having to strictly rely on Julio. Nice. Let's get the season here.
  17. Bush is an intriguing fella... 95 mph heater... hasn't pitched all too much since being converted but looked good I guess in his short stints. If the Padres are looking for anything (literally) in return for him... I'd toss some low level mild prospect at them. Nobody decent... but someone. I don't like the report of the suspension for a fight outside a club though... don't want any of that around.
  18. That's the exact reason for this signing. It was a nothing for nothing trade... but the guy we get at least has some major league experience. I'm sure if you would have talked to Melvin last week... he wouldn't have said "I'm really looking forward to acquiring Chase Wright from New York.... he should complete our staff". But if the deal comes around should he turn it down because he isn't the 5th starter we need? This is just upgrading the options at AAA.
  19. When I look at those numbers I see that 3 of his best 4 months were the first 3 months of the season. We agreed he played in too many games... which probably hurt his 2nd half numbers. Even the slightest of improvements in Kendall's 2nd half would have made his overall numbers acceptable offensively for the season... which is a big upgrade over his past few seasons. It's cool that we disagree, but when Kendall says the lasik surgery helped him... I believe him. I hope it works for Hall too so he is able to bat against righties now and then and we can keep another lefty (Lamb) on the bench for later innings...
  20. For some reason I'm excited about Hall this year. Kendall has said many times how much the lasik surgery helped his at bats, being able to pick up the spin on the ball better, hightens concentration, etc... (I know the response should be... "Kendall was awful offensively" ... but I think his fast start and Yost's decision to catch him 150+ games, therefore hurting him 2nd half help my claim) ... Add that to the fact that we re-signed Lamb and traded for McGahee (sp?) ... and I think Billy comes in with a chip on his shoulder and turns in a nice season. I'm not expecting a 35 HR season or anything ... but I think he will be a contributor, rather than a liability which is what he seemingly turned into last year.
  21. The crazy "cross your fingers" scenario with Sheets is that we may not have to overpay for him. Hardicourt just reported that Texas and he are stalling and he is almost certainly going to have to back off of his demands. If the Brewers can somehow jump back in on him and get him "cheap" ... it'd be a real nice situation, team wise at least.

  24. Makes the non Gabe Kapler pursuit even more confusing... huh?
  25. Yeah... I thought I had done it... but I didn't. I edited it though...
