  1. With his injury history and contract status, I don't think it would take very much to acquire Nick Johnson, I doubt he would be the key player in a Prince deal. Also the Nats have Dmitri Young for the short term, and Chris Marrero as their top prospect for the long term as replacements. I could see the Brewers trading some decent prospects for Nick Johnson if Prince is traded to another team.
  2. I really liked what I saw from LRMAM, I remember watching him at UCLA his freshman year, and thinking he was going to be really good. I think that he is going to be a very solid player. I still think that Villanueva will start, but it will be nice to have a defensive stopper, high energy guy on the bench in Moute.
  3. Is anybody looking to get rid of tickets.
  4. In Croshere, we got a guy that has made the playoffs every year of his career before last season, and he has played on some good teams and averaged over 10 mpg the last 2 seasons, so he could be a decent guy off the bench. Like I said before, I'd rather see him on the floor than Allen, Gadz, and Elson.
  5. That Providence team was awesome, I remember thinking that God Shammgod was going to be awesome in the NBA, his career didn't quite pan out.
  6. I agree, any deal would have to start w/ Ryan Zimmerman.
  7. Bucks cut Adrian Griffen, and signed Austin Croshere to a free agent contract today. I think Indy was trying to trade Tinsley to keep him, but ended up having to cut him. I like him better than Malik Allen. Could be a decent signing.
  8. I don't think its that unrealistic to think that a guy who has had consecutive 20/20 seasons, and an OPS of .892 in 07', could have a big season at the age of 27. If it weren't for that .437 OPS in September, his 08' season would have looked a lot better. I agree that he needs to learn to take a few more walks, but I don't think that we need to give up on a guy that was one of our best hitters for a lot of 07', and parts of 08'.
  9. Hes from Lithuania
  10. Umm, go look at Mo Vaughns stats w/ the Red Sox, http://www.baseball-reference.com/v/vaughmo01.shtml, he won a league MVP award, finished in the top 5 voting twice, and had MVP votes every other full season he played with them. I think most teams would give up a lot to get a top young slugger like Prince Fielder, even if his career does end up like Mo Vaughns.
  11. He is very athletic, has a nice jumpshot, and has shown the ability to play well in big games in college, so I think the game will eventually slow down for him and he will turn into a very solid NBA player. Even in the preseason, he has shown some positive signs, and looked good in the games vs. the Warriors. Giving up on a lottery pick before he even plays one NBA game, now thats some extreme pessimism. On the season, I look forward to seeing if they can actually improve defensively, and have a lot more ball movement on offense. I like the starting lineup a lot, I hope they will focus on getting Bogut more touches this season, and making sure that Villanueva plays closer to the basket. I don't like what I've seen from a lot of the new guys on the bench, and I hope that LRMAM, Alexander, Sessions and Bell, see more minutes than guys like Lue and Allen. I predict that they will win around 40 games, and make the playoffs as the 8th seed.
  12. Ryan Church is not a free agent, I believe he is under the Mets control for the next 3 seasons. However if they do sign another outfielder, Church will probably be available. I still can't believe how bad Corey Hart's second half was, you have to think that he was injured to slip that badly offensively and defensively. The more I think about it the more I hope they don't trade him this off-season, I think it would be a huge case of selling low.
  13. I was very happy with his performance this past season, I think he brought great CF defense, and provided what I thought he would on offense. He also seemed to be a positive influence in the clubhouse and in the community. I'd love to see him back, I think he is a bargain at 1 year 10 million.
  14. Big deal, what did he ever do for the franchise?
  15. I'm pretty sure that he never said he won't come back, but rather that he didn't want to sign during the season because he will test free agency. I think it was articles by jsonline saying there is almost no chance of him coming back.
  16. Since CC has his own thread, I think our staff ace over the last 8 seasons hitting free agency deserves one also. So far all I've seen is that Melvin said that they will talk to Sheets and gauge his interest in coming back, I'm not sure exactly what that means. How much will he get, and where will he end up? I'm not even sure if he would be interested in returning, but I am definitely in favor of bringing him back. I think he will end up getting a deal in the 3/40 range, and I hope its with the Brewers. Reasons to re-sign Sheets: -Probably the second best starting pitcher available this off-season -Very good in the clubhouse, and always gives you a good chance to win when healthy -Won't cost any draft picks to sign -Will be much cheaper than Sabathia, while providing close to the same results Reasons to not re-sign Sheets: -Injury prone -Might need a change of scenery -If the Brewers sign Sabathia -Will gain draft picks if he signs elsewhere -If someone offers him more than 4 years and overpays for him ---------------------------- Moderator note: This topic is now removed from the Designated Threads List. --1992 New thread: Sheets watch, Part 2: May need surgery, Brewers may need to pay for it (now added to Designated Threads List)
  17. I don't think that they will be looking to get rid of him, he is a fan favorite, and is still going to be cheap. Plus I've heard that they might have him play a larger role if Burrell leaves in the offseason.
  18. How do you know that Melvin isn't looking at Johnson or Valentine? The only thing that we know for sure is that he has interviewed Ken Macha, and he is interested in at least 5 candidates that have managerial experience and have been successful at the major league level. The rest is just Tom Hardricout's opinion. And I would argue that Melvin is a very smart GM, and has been one of the biggest keys in turning around the Brewers franchise. Why would TH think that Willie Randolph is not a serious candidate? I think its a little premature, and a whole lot of speculation to say that he is only being interviewed because he is a minority. Didn't we almost hire him in 03'? Also, Melvin saying that usually the managers are better the second time around works for him also.
  19. I'd like to see Baldelli brought in as the 4th outfielder/pinch hitter, but I wouldn't want to depend on him w/ a starting role. I think that would be far to risky. What about moving Abreu to left field, and switching Braun to right field?
  20. Wouldn't you consider Blalock more of an injury concern than Branyan?
  21. I think that would be a very good offer, Escobar and Jeffress are both considered in the top 25-50 prospects in all of the minor leagues, and Hart is still only 26 and coming off two 20/20 seasons. If it takes a lot more than that, I don't think the Padres are being realistic.
  22. I think if we traded Hart, we should look to trade him for a good starting pitcher or 2b/3b leadoff spot (Chone Figgins, Brian Roberts), and then sign Bobby Abreu to a 2-3 year deal to be our rightfielder. However I don't think we should trade him this off season because his value is down, and I think he will rebound next season.
  23. Why would you trade for an all-star catcher in the prime of his career, and then move him to a different position? The only reason they played him at 3rd a few times last season is to keep him fresh so he could play everyday. I understand that Russell Martin is a great player, but I'd much rather spend some of the prospects it would take to get him on a lefty hitting 3b/ 2b, leadoff hitter, or an ace pitcher.
  24. Brewerguy, I guess that wasn't really thought out, did you forget about the recent trades he made w/ the Padres (Linebrink), Pirates (Torres), Indians (Sabathia), Giants (Durham), twice w/ the Rays (Gross, McClung) and Mets (Mota)? I could go on and on, but I think you get the point. Anyways, back on subject, looking at the records I'm very impressed with what Ken Macha did in Oakland, winning 2 division titles and a .568 winning percentage in four seasons w/ a small market team is no joke. I think if they did hire him, they would definitely talk to Kendall and others who played for him first, I don't think they will just ignore the remarks the players made about him. Also, I agree w/ Doug Melvin that Managers are usually better the second time around, after the have a chance to learn from there mistakes. So I guess what I'm saying is that I am could get on board w/ Macha as our manager. I don't know enough about other managers, but I've always liked Davey Johnson and would be excited to see him brought in.
  25. I don't think that the Wood's star has faded as much as you think, he had a rough time when called up, but his .296 /.375/.595/.970 and 31 HR's in under 400 AAA ab's as a 23 year old, makes me think he could be a very good option as an everyday 3b for the Brewers. If we could somehow get Santana, Wood, Willits, and Mathis for Fielder, and get them to take on Billy Halls contract, I guess Melvin would have to consider it, but I don't think the Brewers are looking to trade Fielder yet, and I'm not sure that Anaheim would offer that much. I'm not ready to jump off the Fielder bandwagon like it seems a lot of Brewers fans are, I'm still hoping he signs long term and is our first baseman for a long time to come.
