  1. IF they are going to trade Hader I'd add the Blue Jays to the mix of teams in the position of want with some interesting prospects to offer. Moreno is obviously a guy to have interest in. Maybe the Jays would part with him. If they would, I feel like it would me more of a straight up deal. If not Moreno I think I'd try for: Groshans Otto Lopez Zach Logue I don't 'follow' prospects so I'm not making a decision based on anything other than reading generic MLB/fangraphs prospect profiles I don't think they will or should trade Hader and this feels like a deal you make when you're not going to be competitive but I think it'd line up as fair and with a team that would have an interest.
  2. This actually feels like a pretty good deal for all sides. I guess I could see the A's possibly wanting a bit more, and not sure if that would require both the Brewers and Dodgers stepping up with a better prospect in one of these spots? But, overall - it would at least seem like a good starting point, with three teams where it could be a good match? Agreed. I think this is a deal that could work. Yes, as you said the A's might prefer something added or a higher end guy but that group has some decent upside and a pretty fair floor with Tellez and Turang if they are wanting to hedge a little bit.
  3. Fair. Most teams aren't in the Brewers situation. I guess we could debate what level of starter he is but on a competitive team he's a 4-5. I think his ERA is a bit misleading but guys that can generate a high GB rate can do that. How to value Houser might be an interesting debate on it's own. His WHIP, K%, and walk rate all indicate he's not all that great. Useful yes, but not anybody I'd place a great value on. Maybe they could aim higher than Kepler. Perhaps Larnach if you want more upside. I can see where if you dream a bit maybe Houser still has Musgrove upside, but right now he's more a Miley with a lesser track record. I think he's a sell high-ish candidate. I'd currently place Ashby and Lauer over him in the rotation.
  4. I didn't realize how much more contact Olson made this season. I'm significantly more intrigued in potentially making a deal for him. I'd consider including Ashby; if I'm the A's that's who I'm targeting from the Brewers and if they decline I'm moving on. On Tellez, no I don't think he's a difference maker in trade value. That said, if I'm trading with the Brewers he's a guy that I'd have an interest in having included. He feels like a great opportunity to make a quick profit on. I probably like him more than most. I think he hasn't quite put things together yet and probably has a 30 HR, .250, type potential if he can get full time AB's, imo. He always took a back seat to the Jays young stars and was easy to bench during a slump.
  5. You must really hate Houser to trade for Kepler to use as a platoon. Houser to me has more upside as he refines his pitching. Nah, I just don't see the upside in Houser at this stage. I like him just fine. He didn't really take the step forward that I thought he might this season. Obviously the GB% is great, but to me he's not more than the role he's been in: back end starter or bullpen arm. I actually think he might play better as a full time bullpen arm. Kepler is nothing special either but his upside is a 30+ HR bat who can handle RF and CF if needed. He's at least an avg defender and not a negative on the bases. In the same sense as I can see some potential upside in Houser yet, I think there's a fraction of potential upside in Kepler with the amount of contact he's able to make. In my book, it's a pretty even swap at a position of relative depth for each team.
  6. He's become a real nice bat over the last few years. I don't necessarily see him as a fit with his limited defensive skills. I think his bat is good enough if the price slid a bit they'd entertain the idea.
  7. I'm going to propose a Houser for Kepler swap. Kepler has pretty much become a platoon bat at this point but he and Taylor could form a pretty solid RF platoon I think. Kepler is under contract for two more seasons at a reasonable $7 mil, with a 2024 option year I believe. Houser also with 3 more years of control. The Twins appear to have some corner OF depth available and a need for some sort of starting pitching. I think Kepler also came up as a 1B, so maybe there's also some available versatility, though I don't think he's played there in quite a few years.
  8. He would seem like the most Stearns, Brewer signing ever. I'm still not convinced they have the money/ willing to spend even at $15-16 mil / year. The consensus seems to be in the 4/ $60-68 mil range. Anybody interested at that cost? He's not a star but clearly above average and of course the calling card versatility. There's not a lot of FAs that I'm super interested in that I think will fall to the Brewers price range; Taylor would make my short list.
  9. I think a Chrome book will be fine for the use you're describing. You can store things locally or in the "cloud"; you get I think 10 gb of free storage when you sign up for google/gmail account. If you've only used Microsoft based products then it'll take a bit of getting used to, kind of in the same way getting a new phone takes a bit of time to navigate. For mostly browsing and light word processing they're great. Also work fine for accessing your streaming services and viewing movies, etc if you have an interest there.
  10. This is so easy it's not even funny...for a year the Brewers can boost the payroll..give Castellanos 3yrs 60 mill(I go 66 mill if I need to to get it done). Next year Cain comes off the books...that's 17 mill of that amount right there. So essentially they raise payroll by 5 million. Sportrac has them at 105 million for next year, if they can't raise it another 20-22 million for ONE year(essentially) then they might as well just start trading guys and punt. I think they can and will expand the payroll. I don't think Castellanos is coming on a 3 year deal; he didn't opt out to sign for 3 years. 5-6 years seems more likely to me. It's nice that the high end of the FA pool is pretty deep this year, so maybe the Brewers find a way to make a significant upgrade to a position player there. They have been more aggressive/ flexible financially in recent seasons so I do believe they'll make a play at some guys on shorter term deals.
  11. Bassitt and Kemp would be two guys I'd be semi-interested in. Not sure on the cost; one of Houser/ Lauer + ?. He's an upgrade over either one, though I'm not sure by how much. Kemp would be useful in a Jace Peterson sort of way and has some versatility. A 4-5, of Bassitt and Ashby would be cool.
  12. I don't see a path to Castellanos being a Brewer (or Avi coming back). I just can't see a big FA signing happening with current contracts on the roster.
  13. I think he costs at least Ashby+, most likely both Ashby and Mitchell. Four years of an emerging elite level bat won't be cheap. I want Ashby in the rotation next season, so if that's the cost I'd be out. I'm probably in the minority after the offensive struggle in the post season but I'm ok with their position players going into next season.
  14. No, now isn't the off season. When the Brewers are no longer the best team in the Central and no longer a playoff team, that's when it will be the right time.
  15. I think there are 3 separate challenges that need addressing: 1. Pace of play 2. On field action 3. Appealing to / attracting younger audiences 1. My answer to the pace of play would be to add a pitch clock. There's no reason for the slow pace in between pitches and the timeouts from the batters. I don't think it's unrealistic to shave 15-20 seconds off every AB. Get rid of replay, it's been largely useless. 2. Honestly strikeouts are here to stay... until teams stop accepting it from their hitters. Moving the fences back would be my suggestion to try to discourage some of the all out HR swings. I don't think messing with the mound distance will do much nor do I like that proposed solution. I wish teams would embrace contact and speed more as a way to change the outcome of games. The Royals teams of 2014-15 proved you can still win (still in this era) with contact, base running and defense. I thought more organizations would've tried to duplicate their success. I personally just don't see the value in guys hitting .225ish and 20-25 HRs and nothing else. Organizations should stop accepting this as a professional approach/ normal stat line for non-star players. 3. I'm not overly convinced the increase in HRs and Ks necessarily makes the game unappealing to young people. Imo, MLB doesn't market it's product/players like it needs to. They lag behind in marking athletes. Make it easier to watch your local teams. Work to get games on more streaming services. Explore opportunity to add technology to the viewing/ interacting with the live games. I often see references to, 'how football and basketball changed rules to accommodate' more offense and attract more fans. I don't think either of those products is better after their changes. Football has the grand marketing tool of Fantasy football. They wanted more scoring for that alone. So in that way I guess it was successful. Without fantasy football, I think the NFL is largely less popular. The NBA changed some of it's defensive rules. Great, now I get to watch 3-point contests and one-on-one isolation plays all game. I don't find it all that entertaining, however they do market wwaaayyyy better than MLB. MLB could take notes there. Just my 3 cents
  16. I just don't see many realistic scenarios where this would happen in the off-season. A team with a big enough market/potential payroll to take on the risk but probably not good enough to have better alternatives than what he's put up the last 2 seasons? Texas? for..... Solak? or one their second tier prospects. Would he even pass the other team's physical? I have to believe he's not over his injuries over the last couple seasons. Maybe he's done, but I don't believe that. The franchise obviously needs him to rebound. He might be done as an MVP but I think (gulp..hope) there's still an All-star level player there. Right now the contract looks bad but trading him for peanuts and having him bounce back would be worse, imo.
  17. I think those of you that think, they're going to "fix" the offense are going to be disappointed. This is largely the team that will be back, imo. There's room for some progression with Urias and maybe Adames yet. Tellez is better than what some of you are giving him credit for; he'll be at 1B. The biggest add will have to Yelich somehow rediscovering himself.
  18. Man, disappointment yet again. Just a lot of swing and miss in thier game. I'm not sure there's really any decisions that were obviously costly. Even as bad as it looked it's still a handful of ABs either way that make the difference. It's an odd thing, it's like the anti-Brewer team. All pitching, no hitting. Hasn't happened in my lifetime. This version of the Brewers needed Yelich to be MVP Yelich. The contract isn't his fault but unless he improves this is the kind of pieced together offense that we can expect as they can't afford to add much. The window is still there with the pitching. Enjoy the rest of the post-season all. On to 2022.
  19. Agreed with not starting Burnes on short rest. It's too short sighted of a view, imo. Yes, they need to win today but if you really believe this team could win it all then to me sending Burnes to start today signals a bit of a panic and not a lot of confidence in how they got here. Stay the course. My opinion would be different if it was to close out the WS but there's just too much baseball to be played yet. Lauer has thrown the ball well. They're going to need him along the way anyway, now is the time for him to step up as well. I'm sure they'll have a quick exit plan if things get choppy early; he's earned the opportunity.
  20. Love this. It's been a process for me to get to this view. Let's face it, I'm sure everyone posting on this board has put a ton of time in following this team over the years. We all have something invested. Quite honestly, sometimes I feel guilty about it for different reasons. There will be disappointment whenever it ends, outside a WS win. As a fan, there's nothing quite like of the anticipation of an elimination game. Unfortunately the Brewers now have to win two in a row to advance but IF they can do it, would you wish it any other way? Bring it back home and win it in Milwaukee! It only takes a single AB, pitch or moment to change the whole outlook of a series. So far, it's gone Atlanta's way. Morton on short rest, I honestly believe favors the Brewers. There's pressure on Atlanta to finish this out as much as there is on the Brewers to extend it.
  21. Yes, agreed. I think it was the correct call based on the circumstances. It was their absolute best chance to score and change the position of the game. The turning point wasn't taking Peralta out, it was not scoring with runners at 2nd-3rd and nobody out. Gotta win 2 in a row. It's been done before
  22. I think baseball is overdue for some modifications with the expansion of the post season (which I also think was an overdue add). Play 150, and let the wildcard teams play a series. To have 162 games come down to a single play-in game with winner take all, when the whole season schedule is based on series' to me seems like it could be improved upon. Yes, I like the play-in game over nothing. There does need to remain a balance of keeping the regular season relevant while creating an exciting post-season atmosphere. Easier said than done I guess but they've been moving in the right direction. I do hope the Cardinals upset LA tonight.
  23. Dang that sucks. Watching the video, it's obvious he feels bad and is embarrassed. I also hope whatever he was up against to make him punch the wall gets addressed. Is there a story? I'm sure but even if the media asks the question, do you really think he's going to give a fully disclosed answer? Doubtful. Maaaayybeee/probably it was mostly alcohol related. I think it's appropriate to be cautious forming too much of an opinion though. For all we know, punching a wall WAS showing restraint on his part for whatever was going on. In any case, he's missing out on a dream opportunity. Tough lesson.
  24. If the Brewers somehow manage to win the WS, it wouldn't surprise me to see Stearns leave. I know players have been exchanged as compensation for front office folks, but I wouldn't really consider it a trade per se. In my view no GM has ever really been traded, only granted the request to move to another organization. Yes, I could see it. With his success with the Brewers he could about name his price. The only thing that'll make him more valuable is a championship but as far as him maximizing his own value like a player would, he's at his peak right now.
  25. Burnes. Ask again in two years; hopefully they have their WS title by then
