  1. If Profar is truly untouchable, shouldn't Andrus be mega-untouchable? Does Profar have significantly more power potential? Andrus is proven, experienced, affordable, and excellent in every other aspect of the game other than SLG%. I get the years of control discrepancy, but I really don't see Texas parting with such a great player right now in favor of a 19-year old who's never seen a big league pitch, no matter how talented he may be.
  2. Despite this report, I don't think the Brewers go nuts and sell off everyone. Still think Greinke will be the only major piece moved. I'm hoping Ramirez can be dealt as well, but I'm not expecting it.
  3. That was the most incredible, pathetic, and hilarious series I've ever seen. Wow. That was something.
  4. PG's recap of their system has the following comment on the guy they rate out at #1 (ahead of Addison Reed): "Lacking a true out pitch, Molina relies on his ability to work ahead and execute his pitches well, his curveball and splitter both flash above average potential, but neither is likely to generate a lot of punch outs in the Majors." If that's the #1 guy... I think they misspelled "Parra"...(yeah, Parra's learned to get his Ks, I suppose, but the description struck me)
  5. He was standing a few steps off 3rd base, and wasn't paying attention to the ball - looked like he was staring in to home plate for some reason. Lee tossed to 3rd, caught him in a rundown. I think the baseball expression is "caught napping".
  6. All the Brewers need is for the Phillies to lock up Hamels and the offers ought to come flying in. They will anyway, but it doesn't hurt.
  7. The Texas/Milwaukee connection for Greinke at this point makes way too much sense to not happen. Both sides have motive, both sides have what the other needs.
  8. If there is any interest in Ramirez, I feel like it's imperative that he's traded. I know he was given a three year deal, but I have to think the Brewers signed him for 2012 specifically. That ship has sunk, so how important is it that he's kept? He's not a terrible player, but he's not irreplaceable. I'd like to not have to worry about that contract.
  9. 2 out of 3 on the road in Cincinnati would be outstanding. The Brewers aren't NEARLY as bad as everyone pretends they are. Take two out of three this weekend and they have 68 games to close a 6 game deficit (unless the Pirates sweep, of course). They could have a hot month and be within a game or two of first place.
  10. Turnbow lost the ability to throw a strike in early 2008, and by the end of the year he couldn't even get a job in the minors. Inability to throw strikes is not always "fixable". Because every reliever that's incredible for one season and struggles with their control for a while in the next ends up in a cataclysmic self-destructive free-for-all. Hey - 2/2, right? Clearly the logical action to take in this post-game frenzy is to dump him completely, because his career is most definitely over. Because he's Derrick Turnbow.
  11. Let's not kid ourselves. Someone in the front row sneezes, Holliday is a billionth of a second later on that fastball, and it goes straight to Hart. Game over. It's not like Axford got shelled. He literally could not throw a strike. It's fixable.
  12. Exactly what I was thinking. After he fouled off meaty 2-1 while barking at himself, I thought it was over. Really quite shocking.
  13. If that's the case, goodbye Zack. 125 mil minimum, really? I can't understand that kind of price tag deriving from his career production. That seems a little nuts to me. Once he hits the open market, I really think there will be at least two teams willing to go higher than the Cain deal (since ZG is still pretty young). Who knows, maybe I'll be wrong, but I just think 5/$100M is way short compared to what he'll sign as a FA. Maybe I should say a minimum of $115M, since that's closer to the Cain total, but with the way FA has gone recently, I think there will be multiple teams willing to at least match said Cain deal. $125M is kind of the generic reference I've been using in my own head when thinking about Greinke's impending free agency, so I guess I shouldn't throw it around so liberally. But I really do think that's about what he'll get on the open market. When I say "That seems a little nuts to me", I say it in the same way my grandpa might exasperatedly comment on gas or cigarette prices, or the way my mother bends the question "Do you really need two computer screens?". It's that thing of - I get it, but I don't get it. I'm sure you're right, and the high demand for Greinke will drive up his price to an obscene level, but it fundamentally confounds me. Perhaps I completely misinterpret Zack's ability, but I think he's a pretty good pitcher. I don't think he's a please-sign-this-blank-check-as-we-beg type of pitcher. I'd take Cain in a heartbeat. I don't think Zack deserves Cain money. But luckily, I don't make these decisions.

  15. He isn't nearly as bad of a player as he was for the Brewers. That sentence sure sounds stupid, but it's true. He'll catch on somewhere.
  16. If they were up 6-2 maybe I'd call it stat-padding. 4-run deficits are not insurmountable. He wanted to win the game. I thought it was kind of badass, actually.
  17. The bunting is actually a fetish. He is excited to give away outs. I don't understand it.
  18. I think I might be too biased to stay objective here, but if he can be had, I'm all for it.
  19. Veras seems like the perfect example of "thrower" in the typical "pitcher vs. thrower" discussion. I can't help but feel like he has no idea where the ball is going. Stuff is really good, but we all know that only goes so far.
  20. Seriously, most managers go with the lefty, and certainly not the backup C. It was a good decision regardless of the outcome.
  21. Ump was right on the call. Just flat missed it. Oh well, works for me.
  22. I would guess it is because it is very early in the year so the starters aren't quite totally stretched out yet and the Brewers don't have an off day for another 8 days. The bullpen is going to get used a lot in the next week, so if Estrada could give them two strong innings, great. He could have gone with Loe for an inning then Estrada for 2 after the lineup turned over. He didn't have to double switch. Estrada was already warm, so Roenicke probably just wanted to keep the guy in rhythm for the next inning, and possibly more. He decided to sacrifice Gamel for Ishikawa instead of Gonzalez for Izturis to try and get multiple innings from Estrada, and hopefully have a lead or a tie by the time the 8th for K-Rod and Axford. I think Estrada's been effective enough to earn those innings - no, it wasn't a long relief situation in the sense that the game was over, but Estrada is a pretty good middle reliever who happens to be able to go 2-4 innings if he's on. It didn't work. It happens. It wasn't controversial. I'm ecstatic Gamel is finally playing every day, which sounds disingenuous given the context of the argument, but we need to stop pretending like every one of his ABs is a cherished commodity. Not yet.
  23. Or that it was a long relief situation and Gamel was second-to-last to bat? Would you rather him swap out Gonzalez for Izturis?
  24. No thanks. I guess I wouldn't oppose a minor-league deal, but I think there's enough bullpen depth, for now.
