  1. I would rather do a sign and trade with the Mavericks involving Brandon. Hopefully picking up their 1st round pick which would give the Bucks the 13th and 15th pick in the draft which they could then trade up into the top 5 picks for either this year or for next years draft. If this trade happens I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bucks take Michael Carter-Williams with the 13th pick and at the 15th pick take Shabazz Muhammad (assuming he is still available) or Sergey Karasev. I would not want any part of Sergey Karasev as he is at a minimum a 3-year project to get him ready to be an NBA player off the bench. He would absolutely have to go the NBA development league for a year or two. I would bet on him needing at a minimum 2-years in the NBA development league before he would be ready to contribute in the NBA but he has some very high upside but with a very low floor. He would be better as a SF than as a SG. I think the Bucks could pick up Tim Hardaway Jr. in the 2nd round if they decide to trade up to get him in the 2nd round and he would be a good complement to Michael Carter-Williams. The Bucks would still need an outside shooter and hopefully they can find someone at SF who can shoot behind the arc well.
  2. I agree -- & it's why I said '15 would be the first season to expect or hope they'd contend again... I think I'd lean far more towards "hope" than "expect." I'm not sure I think it'd take them until 2018 to contend (as long as they get to selling asap), but I'd definitely bet on '18 over '15, regardless of what approach the front office winds up taking. '15 is going to be the start of when the Brewers would be competitive again. Now competitive doesn't mean they will make the playoffs or will be a great team it is just when they will be competitive again as an organization. If there are trades like for example trading Gallardo to a team for a young arm or even a position player you could see them possibly in 2015. In my trade example or hopeful example trading Gallardo for Barnes, Cecchini, and another lower prospect both Barnes and Cecchini should be on the Brewers roster by 2015 if everything goes right for them. I believe Barnes will be a call up by mid season next year for Boston so 2015 isn't all that far off for him. If all of the trades that I suggested happened you would have Lee, Barnes, Pena, Hellweg, Jungmann, Burgos, Arrieta, Fiers, Nelson, Peralta and others all competing for starting rotation spots for the 2015 year. Which would allow the Brewers to mix and match and see who should be in the bullpen and who should be in the rotation. It also allows the Brewers to trade the pitchers they do not want or are on the fence on for other holes. But sadly I don't think this will happen. I don't believe the Brewers are not going to get who they want in a trade for Gallardo he will be made available but for the right price and I don't think teams are going to give what Melvin and Mark A. will be wanting in return. I believe the Brewers will go into the off season and try to sign either Garza or Hughes in free agency and will fail at signing either of them and will then again sign another Lohse type which was Mark A.'s decision on signing him. If they don't fail at signing either of them and actually get Garza or Hughes it is going to be like putting a band aid on a gun shot wound and then saying hey you are fixed now leave the hospital. Not really what I want to see happen this coming off season but it is what is going to happen unless Mark A. decides to step back and allow the GM whoever that maybe to take over the team and start retooling the team. This coming off season is about a year and a half to late. The Brewers really should have started to retool last trade deadline when they had the chance to do this. The Brewers should have traded both Hart and Ramirez last trading deadline. I believe the Dodgers were interested in Ramirez for a bit and I think the Brewers could have gotten Lee or Gordon for Ramirez. I don't believe Ramirez contract is all that inhibiting for a trade to occur. The Brewers will probably have to take on some of his salary for next year but that really shouldn't matter as the Brewers will not be competing next year anyways. It would be better for the team to take on a portion of Ramirez salary for next year and receive a prospect in return that may contribute down the road than keeping him for another year and paying his full salary. Now if Axford continues to find how to pitch again he could become a very valuable piece in a trade. I hope he does because I am not sure what Henderson could bring in a trade. I would be looking at the Tigers, Orioles, and the Angels as possible trade partners for either Axford or Henderson. The best you are going to get are B or B- type prospects and probably more accurately you are looking at C+ type prospects for Axford or Henderson.
  3. He is exactly the same but just not hitting his spots. As I said countless times last year Fiers is a #5 pitcher at best and when he is spotting his pitches he will be good if not he will look like he is throwing BP to the other team.
  4. I would rather they just let him be a starter in the minors as he will be get more opportunities to face batters there than he would be being a relief pitcher in the minors.
  5. Not to derail this but I would look at trading Khris Davis to the Rays for Enny Romero. The Rays need a DH and Davis would fit there but I am not sure the Rays would give up Romero for Davis. I do think the Rays would be interested in Haniger or Roache. I believe GM's are hesitant to trade within their own division when it comes to prospects. Every GM will trade an MLB player to a divisional rival but prospects there is going to be a lot of hesitation from both GM's on giving up a prospect to a team in their own division. I like what you are thinking but I don't believe any GM is going to look at a prospect for prospect trade within their own division, within their own league sure but I don't believe any GM is going to be comfortable giving up a prospect to another team in their division. I would do it but I just don't believe any GM in baseball will do this. I like where you are going with trading from a position of strength. I believe the Rays would be another match as I am not all that sold on their OF prospects beyond Myers. Blake Snell for Haniger would be a good trade for both teams. I believe Haniger will be able to hit for more power than either Josh Sale, Drew Vettleson, or Mikie Mahtook will be able to and will thus make him a better corner OF. Now for Blake Snell he is currently at a K/9 of 10.3 in the Midwest league and he looks to be a legit #2 or #3 starter I would have to see more from him to put him up higher than that right now. I was going to say Roache for Snell but the gap in talent is to far and wouldn't be a fair trade. I don't see this as being a prospect for prospect trade more would have to be added on both sides for a deal like this to get done. I wouldn't be surprised if Khris Davis, a catcher, and at least one other pitcher is put into the trade with Davis and Haniger. From the Rays I would target Felipe Rivero or Tyler Goeddel either one would be fine though Rivero maybe a stretch.
  6. I just got around to reading this article on Baseball Prospectus from last month. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=20140 I found this to be rather interesting especially about the pitchers who pitched more towards ground balls having a lower BABIP on ground balls. I am not convinced that he is right but I do believe this is an interesting point of view on BABIP for pitchers.
  7. And it looks like you were completely off.
  8. For 3B I like Dustin Peterson, 3b, Gilbert (Ariz.) HS and Travis Demeritte, 3b, Winder-Barrow HS, Winder, Ga. who both could be available in the 2nd round. Though Dustin Peterson has been climbing in his draft stock and may not be available when the Brewers pick but I think he will be. I would still prefer AJ Puk over any player the Brewers think of even grabbing with their 1st pick in the draft. Though Jake Brentz, lhp, Parkway South HS, Manchester, Mo. would be a good pick up also. Still I want Puk as I think he is an impact pitcher that may fall into the Brewers lap in the 2nd round.
  9. I wasn't really saying it was a good or bad selection I was just pointing out Ash's overall draft selections as he was the GM of the Blue Jays for awhile. I am not sure if Ash is rather good at looking for pitchers in the draft as he only has drafted Halladay and McGowan of note or if he is just very unlucky. Maybe I should have put that post in blue to add some sarcasm to it but I believe Ash is not the correct person for the Brewers at this time in his current role. As I stated in the other forum I think it is time for a change in management as Melvin's crew looks to be getting old. There needs to be a change in management as it is time for a change and to get new ideas into the fold. Thad Levine the Assistant GM of the Rangers or Matt Arnold the director of pro scouting for the Rays are my top two choices for a change in management. The reason I like Matt Arnold is that he is both a sabermetric guy and scout guy. This interview though it is old it is one of the reasons why I would love to have him as the next GM or even assistant GM for the Brewers. I believe the Brewers have drafted some good players though their ceilings are not as high as some would like but they are still quality pitchers. I am not ready to give up on Bradley, Jungmann, or Lopez yet and I believe that at least one of them will be contributing to the Brewers either in terms of a trade or actually on the team. I believe the Brewers need to focus more on higher potential than higher floors. Eric Arnett is one of the worst picks the Brewers have had in a long time. I still believe the Brewers need to draft and develop positional players and make trades for the impact pitching. Yes the young impact pitching is at a premium right now but there are still teams out there that have impact pitching but do not have impact hitting. The Rays were one of these teams that did not have the impact hitting but had an abundance of impact pitching. Right now the Brewers do not have either and with the record of the Brewers getting impact pitching in the minors being rather bad and their success of drafting and developing hitters being rather high the Brewers really should be focusing on position players and flipping them for the pitching they need. The A's are probably a better team to trade with right now than the Rays and the same could be said with the Orioles.
  10. Actually with the Rogers and Bailey debate I believe Rogers is actually the pitcher that has and had more potential. Bailey has just figured everything out last season before that he was a train wreck. If it were not for the injuries that Rogers has sustained I believe you could argue that Rogers was the better pick over Bailey as his ceiling looks to be a lot higher than that of Bailey's. Bailey right now looks like he is going to be a #3 or possibly a #2 type starter. If Rogers were healthy I believe you could project his ceiling as a #1 or #2 type starter. The difference between Bailey and Rogers is that Bailey has a higher floor than Rogers does. With Bailey you are talking about a floor of a #4 or as high as a #3 starter and with Rogers you are looking at a bullpen guy maybe a late inning relief pitcher. The floors are what really separates Rogers and Bailey right now. I believe the Brewers took the right player in Rogers over Bailey. Now both have had very frustrating careers so far with Bailey early on being very erratic at times and with Rogers the frustration being mostly with his injuries. I would still take Rogers over Bailey in that draft as I believe Rogers actually has the higher potential over Bailey.
  11. Step one clean house in the front office. It is time for new ideas and new people. After awhile the ideas start to get stale and it is time to move on from one management to the next and it is just about that time for Melvin to move on. GM candidates: 1. Thad Levine Assistant GM of the Rangers 2. Matt Arnold, Director, Pro Scouting for the Rays 3. Ari Kaplan, Manager of Statistical Analysis, Chicago Cubs 4. DeJon Watson, Asst. GM, Player Development, Los Angeles Dodgers I would prefer Levine as he is probably the best candidate but I really like Ari Kaplan and Matt Arnold. Arnold uses both advanced stats and scouting to look at players which is the correct way to look at players. You need both to get an accurate picture of a player as there are some things that the statistics will tell you about a player that a regular scouting report will not and the reverse is also true. I would really prefer to give Levine the GM job with Arnold or Kaplan becoming the AGM. The Brewers should be drafting in the 10-15 spot for the first couple of years that Levine would be the GM with Arnold or Kaplan as the AGM I believe the Brewers would be in good hands and would be able to get some nice prospects into the farm system. Trade candidates: Aoki, Ramirez, Gomez, Gallardo, Estrada, and Lohse. I would look into seeing if the Rangers, Red Sox, Orioles, and the Dodgers would be interested in trading for either Estrada, Lohse, or Gallardo. I think you could put a package together of Weeks, Ramirez, and Estrada for Lee and Gordon from the Dodgers. The Brewers would probably have to take on some of Weeks and Ramirez salary to make this work but I would be OK with that. Then trade Lohse to the Orioles for Jake Arrieta and Branden Kline. Last of the pitchers is Gallardo I would love to get the Rangers and the Red Sox into a bidding war for Gallardo but that would mean Gallardo will have to perform a lot better than he has been. In a perfect situation I would take Matt Barnes, Garin Cecchini, and Henry Owens from the Red Sox as that would give the Brewers a #1/2 type starter in Barnes and an average to above average 3B with Owens being a complete project though he has a rather high ceiling as a LHP. Now finding a home for Gomez and Aoki is going to be difficult. There are not that many teams looking to add to their OF maybe the Rangers would look at someone like Aoki as he could be a good leadoff hitter for them. I would believe that the Yankees would have interest in both Gomez and Aoki but I do not like any of their prospects all that much most of them that I do like have been injured. Aoki would actually be a better solution for the Yankees than Ichiro right now. Aoki could also fit in with the Rays but I doubt they would give up anything of value for him. Gomez current deal would make him attractive to just about any team. I wonder if the Mets would look at acquiring him or Aoki. I am not sure that would be a fit now maybe if the Mets were more along the line in their rebuilding it would make sense to acquire Aoki but Gomez would fit there. The Blue Jays would also be a team to look at but their farm system has been gutted with recent trades. Not sure right now where or who the Brewers could acquire for either Aoki or Gomez. If all those trades go down the Brewers would have Arrieta, Barnes, Owens, Lee, and Kline for pitching with Cecchini and Gordon as positional players. I would put Gordon at 2B and Cecchini at 3B (2015). 2015 is probably the start of the Brewers rise again. Possible roster in 2015 1B: Morris 2B: Gordon 3B: Cecchini SS: Segura OF: Braun, Gomez, Haniger/Schafer/Davis(kh & ke) C: Lucroy and Maldonado Bench: Schafer/Davis (kh & ke), Haniger, Prince Pitchers: Lee, Peralta, Arrieta, Barnes, Fiers, Nelson, Thornburg, Hellweg, Gagnon, Sanchez, Hand, Burgos/Jungmann/Bradley/Magnifico Not a bad roster though for position players it looks to be to OF heavy as Prince is the only bench player who would not just be an OF. I would look at trading 2 of Haniger, Schafer, ke. davis, and kh. davis for another pitcher or for a positional player in the inf preferably someone who can play either 1b or 3b. Finally I would move Coulter from C to 3B.
  12. It is not like Ash is bad at the draft: Draft Picks 1st Round 1995: 17th overall P Roy Halladay - Arvada West High School 1996: 4th overall P Billy Koch - Clemson University 1996: 16th overall SS Joe Lawrence - Barbe High School 1996: 31st overall 1B Peter Tucci - Providence College 1997: 5th overall OF Vernon Wells - Bowie High School 1998: 8th overall 3B Felipe Lopez - Lake Brantley High School 1999: 19th overall OF Alexis Rios - San Pedro Martir High School 2000: 18th overall OF Miguel Negron - Manuela Toro High School 2000: 33rd overall P Dustin McGowan - Long County High School 2001: 15th overall OF Gabe Gross - Auburn University Other Notable Selections 1995: 10th round (272nd overall) 2B Ryan Freel - Tallahassee Community College 1997: 5th round (149th overall) SS Michael Young - University of California, Santa Barbara 1997: 43rd round (1280th overall) SS Orlando Hudson - Spartanburg Methodist College 1998: 14th round (411th overall) 1B Jay Gibbons - California State University, Los Angeles 1999: 17th round (523rd overall) OF Reed Johnson - California State University, Fullerton
  13. Somehow Alex Gonzalez makes playing 1B hard. I don't get it. Any little league 1B makes that play 10 times out of 10. It is a fairly easy scoop.
  14. Kendall had two years where he hit .320 and .327 with the Pirates. And after looking it up I don't think anyone will be able to guess it.
  15. ummmm what? Is my gameday broken or did this just happen? http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/g323/bignate82/ballindirt_zpsb464cccb.jpg
  16. From MLB trade rumors http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/05/brewers-offered-extension-to-jean-segura.html
  17. I wish the Giants would have caved and gave up Bumgarner for Hart. Funny that they gave up Wheeler for a half a year of Beltran and no comp pick but wouldnt give up Bumgarner for a half a year of Hart plus a comp pick. Frustrating a little as Bumgarner would be an awesome #1 over Gallardo.
  18. I wouldn't say you can count on either Peralta or Gallardo to go at least 6 innings maybe against the Cubs, Astros, or Marlins but definitely not against any other team. Gallardo looks worse than Fiers did early in the season right now.
  19. If you are looking for Scooter to play solid or even spectacular defense then you are going to be very disappointed. Scooter is probably closer to being as good defensively as Weeks is than he is being even an average defensive 2B. I love Scooter and think he can be a good to an average 2B but he is not an improvement over Weeks right now. It would be a lateral move at best replacing Weeks with Gennett. Now if you replace Josh Prince with Weeks then you have your average to above average defensive 2B and he will probably hit about as good or bad as Weeks or Gennett would.
  20. Same results a different pitching coach is not going to change all that much with the players the Brewers have.
  21. Is Segura the best SS in the NL right now?
  22. Halladay was never coming to Milwaukee because of his no trade clause (the Brewers have their spring training facilities in AZ and not in FL being the reason why). [sarcasm]Macha also sat Gamel after Gamel sneezed incorrectly not because of McGehee.[/sarcasm]
  23. Gallardo not going at least 7 is bad as it puts more pressure on the bullpen. Plus Gallardo is going to want to be paid like a #1 starter and someone will pay him that in FA. I just hope it is not the Brewers Barnes is a future #1 pitcher. Next year the Brewers will be in the same spot as they are this year. Losing Gallardo wouldn't change all that much next year for the Brewers. 2015-2019 would be the next window and Gallardo wouldn't be apart of those teams. It would be better for the Brewers to trade Gallardo than to keep him on this team.
