  1. I wonder if Delgado, Davidson, and Holmberg would be a more likely scenario that the Dbacks would be interested in and I believe Melvin has targeted Delgado in the past when he was with the Braves. I would prefer Skaggs over the Delgado + trade. The Delgado + trade would be more of a quantity over quality trade but how Gallardo has been pitching as of late I believe that trade would be a fairly good trade. This wouldn't be as good of a return as the Brewers got for Greinke last year but still a fairly good trade. The time to trade Gallardo was last year and this off season but I don't believe Mark A would have signed off on doing that.
  2. I wouldn't be happy with Rodon as I believe he is a ticking time bomb. The way he has been pitching in college and that shoulder issue at the beginning of the year just does not sit well with me. Kind of reminds me of Mike Jones.
  3. Anyone that would be surprised that Clay Matthews is on steroids is really (in my opinion) naive. Wouldn't shock me if 1/2 of the NFL is juiced up I would increase that to about 70% of the NFL is juiced up. If anyone thinks MLB testing is a joke just look at the NFL's testing policy it is more along the lines of MLB's policy in the 80's through the 90's.
  4. There's a difference between being a big dude and having comic books arms. Frank Thomas had those comic book arms that strangely only seemed to exist in the 1990s and that no era has had before or since. Adam Dunn and Dave Kingman look/looked nothing like Thomas. You can add Bo Jackson to that list also along with a lot of other players. For Thomas's size his arms were not all that big and is actually about average for what you would see for a football player for his size right now. For example Clay Matthews is about the same size as Frank Thomas are you saying that Clay Matthews is also using steroids as his arms are about the same as what Thomas was during his peak years.
  5. I don't know much about Rodon. What scares you off? His shoulder is what scares me the most. From scout.com
  6. OK I give up on trying to understand the NBA CBA. *EDIT* It looks as though Mayo is going to sign with the Bucks and this really wouldn't matter as his signing and a Jennings extension would put the team around the actual cap anyways and will probably get something around $8-9m a year.
  7. Depending on where the Brewers pick I like Sean Newcomb LHP out of Hartford he throws at about 95 MPH and topping out at about 97 MPH, Brandon Finnegan LHP out of TCU similar to Kazmir and sits around 92-95 MPH, Jacob Gatewood, SS, Clovis (Calif.) High the best high school player in the draft, Jack Flaherty, Harvard-Westlake (Studio City, Calif.), Right-Handed Pitcher I like him better as a hitter than a pitcher, and Touki Toussaint, Coral Springs Christian (Fla.), Right-Handed Pitcher who reportedly has thrown 97 MPH already. Not sure I would take Newcomb right now with a top 5 pick but I have him climbing the ladder and actually becoming the #1 college pitcher for next years draft. I would stay far far far far far away from Rodon.
  8. The problem is the Bucks have to sign someone to get at the minimum cap level which was 85% last year and may increase this year the 2010-2011 minimum cap level was 75% so it can increase. Last year the minimum cap was $49.337 million. Currently the Bucks are at $31,081,659 this is just with Jennings getting the qualifying offer and no other rookie contracts. The Bucks also have some inclusive taxes that they can add to their cap figure which puts it at $35,586,982 for the team which is still under the minimum cap level. The Bucks have to be at the minimum cap level by the end of next season. So the Bucks have to sign someone to get up to the minimum cap level or trade for someone that is an expiring contract and have them count towards their cap. Either way the Bucks are going to have to give someone a lot of money or they are going to have to trade for someone who is being paid a lot.
  9. Price pitched 123.2 IP in 2008 and 162.2 IP in 2009.
  10. Well I am glad that the Brewers are actually looking at the international scene this year. Hopefully the two that they signed will actually pan out.
  11. Maldonado is not getting you an upgraded prospect. A backup defensive catcher is not going to get you an increase in prospects unless that defensive backup catcher is young which Maldonado is not. Lucroy would increase the value Maldonado would just be a throw in player who gets you a AAAA player.
  12. Then the deal does not get done as that isn't something that Melvin is going to do to move Gallardo. If the Brewers do not get something at least close to what the Rays received in dealing Shields I don't see Melvin pulling the trigger on a trade. Davidson is a need but Eaton not so much as the Brewers already have an over crowded OF plus I believe Eaton is just coming back from an injury he incurred in spring training. The latest reports have Skaggs being available and the Dbacks having a rather high interest in Gallardo. For any deal to be done it is going to have to include Skaggs from the Dbacks otherwise I see Melvin holding onto Gallardo. I have no interest at all in Eaton the Dbacks can keep him.
  13. There's no way I'm interested in signing any 38 year old player to a multi-year contract. Would prefer a 1-year deal over a multiple for him but it could be all for nothing if the Brewers somehow were able to get Davidson from the Dbacks as that would fill the 3B hole if Ramirez would be traded.
  14. Possible but I believe Donaldson would be more intriguing to the Brewers than Owings and Chafin. I also don't see a spot for Gindl at all with the Dbacks so not sure why you would add him in the deal. Possible but I don't see why the Brewers would want Pederson as the Brewers already have a log jam in the OF. Lee makes more sense for the Brewers than Pederson does. The Brewers could add Weeks into this deal and then take on Ethier and Schumaker. The Brewers could then trade Ethier to the Mets for a prospect or two. Not sure who from the Mets the Brewers could get. Would probably be a 3-team trade where Ethier goes to the Mets and the Brewers get one of the prospects from the Mets and the Dodgers get the other prospect. This would be a complicated deal so I don't see it happening at all. Not even in the realm of possibilities. Even in bizzaro world this wouldn't happen. This is an extreme overpay by the Padres and just would not happen. How about no?
  15. I would put this as first start in the majors jitters and trying way to hard. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go 4 or 5 solid innings the next time out.
  16. If Hellweg's or even Burgos's confidence would be ruined over giving up a bunch of runs in a couple of starts then they have no right to be in baseball and should just retire right now.
  17. I am 100% certain Hellweg didn't throw at McCutchen especially seeing how wild he is right now.
  18. I believe Lance Berkman came back from the same type of injuries I think at least.
  19. The Yankees want to get under the cap so they are not taxed. All of their money for next year is going to be going towards Cano and maybe Hughes. Cano wants a $200m contract which he may just get and I wouldn't be surprised to see the Yankees not go after that and you see Cano in a Dodgers uniform. The Dodgers are not really caring about the cap and paying the luxury tax to MLB. Well why should they with their TV deal that they will be getting in return. The Yankees are really trying to save as much money as they can to keep Cano without going over the cap. The Yankees are a bad fit anyways for Ramirez prospects wise so I am not all that bummed that the Yankees are out of the Ramirez talk. But to play the Devil's advocate for a trade to work the Brewers would have to pay half of Ramirez salary for next year and the $4m buyout which would put the full dollar figure at $12m going to the Yankees from the Brewers. Which with that amount of money changing hands I just don't see any prospect from the Yankees being worth that to the Brewers. The Yankees are just a bad fit prospect wise and money wise right now for Ramirez. The Dodgers and possibly the Red Sox would be where I would look at trading Ramirez to. I would give the Red Sox the $4m of Ramirez buyout to be able to take Cecchini from them. Cecchini and a low A prospect would be an ideal move in my opinion for Ramirez.
  20. The Bucks are an enigma! First they are looking to trade Jennings looks like no one wanted him and I am not all that surprised by that and now they are going to match any contract that he will receive. The Bucks are also going to be talking with the agents of Redick and Ellis. I am not sure if the Bucks even know what they are doing. It seems as though they are just trying to stand pat and do absolutely nothing. The Bucks could have traded out of their pick this year and still have gotten the player they wanted in the 20's or possibly even in the 2nd round or could have traded for him as the NBA went trade happy on draft day. I am just about done with this team as there is no real plan at all coming from the Bucks. Their draft looked like they wanted to go into full on rebuild mode but yet now they are looking at bringing everyone back and basically being the same team as last year. The results are going to be the same and I just don't see how the Bucks are going to improve by doing what they are doing which is basically nothing. It is like the team is trying to be a contender and rebuilding all at the same time but not really committing to either. Reminds me of the mid and late 90's Brewers. FRUSTRATING!
  21. The Yankees have a minor league system that is about as similar as the Brewers. Right now their best prospect in my opinion is Gary Sanchez a catcher and someone that the Yankees will not part with as he is their catcher of the future. The Yankees do not have what it would take to get Gallardo as Hensley and Banuelos are both injured and I am not sure I would really want Banuelos in a trade for Gallardo. On Ramirez I posted this in another thread: One player to keep an eye out on is Jose Ramirez as he would be an awesome return for Aramis but I think that is pushing it in terms of value for Aramis. Baseball America's top 10 for the Yankees 1. Mason Williams, of 2. Slade Heathcott, of 3. Gary Sanchez, c 4. Tyler Austin, of 5. Jose Campos, rhp 6. Brett Marshall, rhp 7. Angelo Gumbs, 2b 8. Manny Banuelos, lhp 9. Ty Hensley, rhp 10. Rafael De Paula, rhp
  22. I would prefer Hairston Jr over Betemit but I wouldn't complain all that much if Betemit would be the choice at 3B. Mark Reynolds maybe an option at 1B if he would be willing to do another 1 year deal but I wouldn't mind him on a 2 or 3-year deal where the 3rd is a team option. Wanted to do that this year for insurance on Hart.
  23. Ledo was traded to the Mavericks? for Nate Wolters.
  24. The thing with the Dodgers it is like they are acting like a hyper active Yankees team in the early 2000's that was being ran by George. The Dodgers are really trying to take fans back that they lost from the Angels. I wouldn't be surprised if they went all out to get someone like Ramirez even if they are in last place right now. The Brewers could really take advantage of the NL West right now by dealing Gallardo to the Giants or Padres and then also dealing Ramirez and relievers to the Dodgers. I would also kick in $4m and half of what he is owed this year just to get a second or third prospect from the Dodgers. I don't believe the Dodgers ownership believes they are out of the race and it looks as though they are starting to get healthy again and their offense looks to be coming back to life again. The Dodgers already have 3 good pitchers in their rotation which to their ownership would make them believe someone like Lee would be expendable if it means making the playoffs this year. I have this feeling that the Dodgers are not done dealing and are looking to be like the Yankees in the early and mid 2000's but a more aggressive version and not as smart.
  25. I think you shop Gomez now but I don't believe you are going to find the deal that you are going to want to make right now. I would wait until the off season to get real serious in trading Gomez this is when Boston will be looking at either paying Ellsbury a ridiculous contract or trading for someone like Gomez who has a fairly decent contract. You would also get more for Gomez in the off season as you would have more teams looking to acquire him the Rangers, Red Sox, Mets, Reds, and the Mariners would all be possible candidates in a trade for Gomez. You could also add in the Yankees but they do not have the prospects that the Reds, Red Sox, or the Mariners could offer. You could even make a case for the Rangers being on the outside looking in on a trade for Gomez.
