  1. Andrew Miller is one of the players I would like to get in a trade. I think someone like Dykstra would be able to fetch Miller maybe even someone even less than Dykstra could get Miller from the Marlins. Miller still has a decent K/9 though at 7.77 cumulatively in the minors this year. I still believe Miller will be a good #3 or #4 type of a pitcher he still does have the stuff to be a #2 or a #1 type of a pitcher though.
  2. I know it all has to be approved by Bud, but when has MLB said no on a deal? I honestly can't remember them turning something down. This one would be turned down by the players union or the players union would make a huge stink about it.
  3. I am pretty sure you would be 110% wrong.
  4. McGehee wouldn't pass through waivers with his production and his contract. Nearly every team in the NL would pick up McGehee there is no way he would get past the first team on the list. Though McGehee to the Braves in the off season is probably a really strong possibility.
  5. Except Harden is worse than Wolf but otherwise yeah you are right.
  6. And yet others in this very thread agreed with Melvin and wanted Beckham to come along in the deal. It was not Hudson who was the deal breaker in the trade it was the other pieces coming back for Fielder that was the problem or are you suggesting that Melvin should have accepted a Hudson plus other prospects deal?
  7. The Brewers would have to pay about 75% of Fielder's contract for next year for that trade to work. The Rays are not adding onto their payroll so that eliminates any Fielder trade with the Rays unless the Brewers are willing to eat a lot of Fielders salary. Another team for Fielder would be the Nationals though they could just stick Willingham at 1B if Dunn leaves though that won't be an ideal situation.
  8. Why? Inglett can be the utility infielder and wouldn't cost all that much.
  9. Paying Butler league minimum is better than paying Suppan or some other #4 or #5 pitcher free agent dollars. Butler may not be anything special but he is a cost controlled #4 or #5 type of a pitcher I actually think Butler has the potential to be a #3 like starter but he is probably more along the lines as a #4 or a #5 type of a pitcher which is very valuable to a team like the Brewers.
  10. No the Orioles would also have to think they are better than the Yankees, Red Sox, Rays, and Blue Jays. The Blue Jays are not a bad team they have some really good pitching on their team and their offense is about average.
  11. If Davis could get some plate discipline he would be a great hitter but there lies the problem he has absolutely no plate discipline at all. The power is there he could be a Deer or Branyan type of player but until he learns how to be patient at the plate he won't be anything special. He really needs to learn some plate discipline at the MLB level he shows it in the minors but whenever he is called up he shows absolutely no plate discipline at all. 2009 OBP .284; 2010 OBP .265; that is beyond horrible. I am not sure if Davis will ever be the player he should be but he would be worth taking a shot with. I am not sure where his trade value is though.
  12. Not for Tampa Bay apparently. If the Rays were playing in any other city in MLB than the Tampa Bay area they would be drawing like crazy. The Rays are going to be lucky to draw 2 million fans which is really unacceptable for a team that is in playoff contention which brings this a little off topic but I won't be surprised if the Rays are gone in two or three years from the state. Which is rather sad but the Tampa Bay area has no one to blame but themselves for that really.
  13. Butler and Rivas should be OK more so Butler than Rivas though.
  14. I heard more cheers than boos on that HR by McGehee.
  15. I think the biggest thing this off season for Fielder getting traded would be the ownership problems for the Rangers and the Dodgers to be fixed for a deal to happen. I believe if Mark Cuban buys the Rangers he will look to make a big splash with someone like Fielder and Lee to be the faces of the franchise.
  16. Not true they have a nice pitcher in Tyler Chatwood in AA right now. 17. Only Holiday is really a power hitter and comparable to Loney. Plus Loney is playing the majority of his games in a pitchers park. If Loney would play the majority of his games at a neutral to hitter friendly park in Miller Park his numbers would increase. Maybe the 60-80 points of OPS is overly optimistic but I wouldn't be surprised if he did add that many points to his OPS. Even if Loney only adds 50 points of OPS he would be a 800 OPS hitter while not great it isn't awful either. It is not like the Brewers would need another player who would be hitting in the 900 OPS range. The Brewers would have enough power with Braun and Gamel in the lineup along with Weeks who can give you another 800 OPS type of player. So you would have a low OPS in Escobar, Green, Cain, and from the catcher spot. Just look at the Padres this year they are not doing it with all high OPS players. Really the only high OPS player is Gonzalez so you don't need a lot of high OPS type of players to win if you can get good pitching and defense also.
  18. Going from AA to the Majors isn't that big of a jump and it isn't any bigger than going from AAA to the Majors if anything it is about equal. If Odorizzi can get batters out in AA he will get batters out in the Majors I still believe that the talent level in AA is better than that in AAA. Russell is basically the throw in guy in the Prince deal you are not going to get all top prospects in return for Prince. If you take Loney out of the NL West he should add about 60-80 points of OPS. Gamel will be fine in the OF he is athletic enough to play out there and his major problem his arm will not be as much of a problem in the OF as it would be at 3B. At worst Gamel would be like Hart in the OF. Along with the Prince trade the Brewers are getting Gould and Elbert in the deal both of whom are top pitching prospects in the Dodgers system. If the Brewers really wanted to they could switch Russell for someone like Jonathan Garcia who is more of a project than anything else. So Russell is having one bad year? That makes him a bad player to receive in a Prince deal as a throw in? Pineda has developed about as much as he is going to develop and he is MLB ready. The only real question is will he be a #1 #2 or an ace?
  19. Maybe not going for it next year but here is another go around with it: Sign Vazquez for 3-years $33m (year 3 is an option year with a team buyout at $1m) Three team deal: Hart to the Giants, Sanchez and Parra to the Rangers, Font and PTBNL to the Brewers. (Extremely unrealistic but I can dream) McGehee to the Angels for Tyler Chatwood and James Mallard. (Probably too much for McGehee probably would have to add something to that deal) Prince to the Dodgers for Loney, Scott Elbert, Garret Gould, and Kyle Russell. Lawrie to the Mariners for Pineda. That gives the Brewers a really bad team in 2011 but a really good team in 2012 and 2013. 2012 lineup: 1B: Loney 2B: Weeks 3B: Green SS: Escobar LF: Braun CF: Cain RF: Gamel C: Lucroy Bench: Inglett, Russell, Gomez, and Kottaras SP: Gallardo, Vazquez, Pineda, Odorizzi, Wolf Bullpen: Axford, Braddock, Rivas, Butler, Rogers, Jeffress, Loe 2013 all you would have to do is put Mallard at 1B in replace of Loney or put Braun there. What is funny here the Brewers would have an excess of pitching that would be ready by 2012 and some hitters. Book it World Series run in 2012 with that lineup and rotation.
  20. AA pitching = MLB ready pitching. All the offers Melvin has gotten for Prince have been players in A ball.
  21. Masterson is a #3 at best I don't see how you can say that he might be a very reliable #2 an ace is extremely out of the question. When did a low 90's throwing 4.18 FIP pitcher become a reliable #2 or an ace? Masterson is no better than Dave Bush he has nearly the same peripherals as Bush has and you are calling him a future ace possibly or a reliable #2?
  22. Well get ready for disappointment because I don't see any teams looking for Bush.
  23. Smoak is on the Mariners now from the Lee trade. The Rangers also have Guzman now to fill in at 2B I think Cantu was a bad trade for the Rangers and I agree Dunn and others would have been a better option.
  24. The Rangers got robbed in this trade. Especially looking at all of the other deals that went down recently.
  25. I think the best move was for Melvin not to trade either Fielder or Hart at this time. I don't even want to know any of the proposed deals that Melvin got for either Fielder or Hart.
