  1. I would be OK with a Garza and Davis trade for Fielder that would be fine by me. Davis might be a little bit to much with Garza already in the mix but having a rotation of Gallardo and Garza for the next 3 years would be nice.
  2. Quit spreading the lie that they thought Teixeira was going to sign. That wasn't one of the reasons and makes absolutely no sense at all that Teixeira would sign because he went to college at Georgia Tech it makes very little sense. If Teixeira was going to sign anywhere for a discount or for a long term where he was traded to it would have been Baltimore or the Nationals not the Braves. Here is the real reason why the Braves traded for Teixeira they thought they were just a bat away from making a serious playoff push. The Braves thought they could make a push for the next two years for the World Series with Teixeira on their team they never had the delusion of Teixeira signing with them without going to free agency first. The Braves knew that Teixeira was going to be a free agent at the end of his contract they knew this. They didn't have any delusions that he was going to sign because he went to school at Georgia Tech. It made absolutely no sense then and it makes absolutely no sense now. I still don't know where people got this where they think the Braves thought they were going to be able to resign Teixeira because he went to Georgia Tech.
  3. I'm predicting $2 off.
  4. If the Brewers don't get Perez in a trade for Fielder to the Rangers then I don't see a trade at all. Holland is out right now with rotator cuff inflammation and that is not good if you are a pitcher. I don't see why the Brewers would start with Holland who is damaged goods right now. Holland if this was the off season would be a good start but not now. Really the Brewers should be shooting for Perez in a trade for Prince and with Perez that would give the Brewers a really good hard throwing pitching prospect to go a long with Odorizzi. The Brewers would then have a rather impressive 2012 pitching rotation of Gallardo, Parra, Perez, Odorizzi, Scarpetta/Rogers/Rivas/Arnett/etc. It would be rather young but it should be rather solid for the Brewers 2013 would probably be a better year for the Brewers pitching wise.
  5. I think Kinsler's contract is probably what Weeks can expect in free agency either this year or next year take into account inflation and it will be near 5 years $24-28 million range. With the 5th year being a team option year with a buyout. But if the Brewers could lock up Weeks to a contract similar to Kinsler I would be very happy. From Cot's Ian Kinsler 2b 5 years/$22M (2008-12), plus 2013 club option 5 years/$22M (2008-12), plus 2013 club option signed extension with Texas 2/19/08 (replaced 1 year/$407,570 deal signed 2/15/08)$1M signing bonus08:$0.5M, 09:$3M, 10:$4M, 11:$6M, 12:$7M, 13:$10M club option ($0.5M buyout)award bonus: $50,000 for All Star selection
  6. Except the Rangers have no room to add payroll to the team. You have to also take into account that a Fielder trade starts with Perez and Perez is off the table. The Rangers just are not a suitor anymore for Fielder maybe if the Brewers pay all of Prince's remaining salary for this year they would be able to get a deal done but the Rangers would still have to trade Perez and I am not sure the Rangers are willing to trade 2 of their best prospects in one season. It just doesn't make any sense for the Rangers to trade for Prince right now. Maybe they would trade for Hart and give up Font but I'm not sure if they would do that even. Evan Reed is probably a more realistic option in a trade involving Hart.
  7. If Weeks hit free agency after this season he would get somewhere around 4-6 mil per year something like 4-years at $24 million with a team option year at $6 million. So it would look like a 5-year $30 million dollar deal with the 5th year being a team option year. That would put Weeks as the 7th highest paid second baseman in the league. Now with second baseman you have a very undervalued free agency dollars with Utley making the most at about $12 million and Mark Ellis at $5.5 million being the lowest. I would put Weeks above Ellis but below Pedroia and Phillips so around the $6 mil per year is what Weeks would get on free agency which is rather cheap so if the Brewers do decide to extend Weeks I wouldn't be against it since it would be a rather cheap extension. While we are on about defense we should have never had extended Braun given his putrid defense.
  8. Well the Rangers still have Font and Reed but I am not all that big on Font I like Reed but not so high on Font. If the Brewers were to trade Prince to the Rangers you would have to get Perez back in return for a trade to work for the Brewers.
  9. Not unless the Brewers pay all of Fielder's salary for this year it is not and it has been reported that Perez is not available.
  10. At least Lebron signed with Miami and not the Knicks. I don't know what is worse Yankee fans or Knicks fans (if there are any left that is).
  11. Congrats. This is a great story for Cain with him being injured last year and him producing very well this year. Hopefully Cain will continue the success he was having in the minors in the majors.
  12. Is this your first player to be in the majors now?
  13. That $20 is a lot less than having a season ticket package. The only other way to get a reserve for playoff games is by having a season ticket package. Now if you don't have season tickets your chances of getting playoff tickets now goes up higher than before this. I'm not against this or for this though.
  14. Congrats to Cain but this is a little bit odd. Is Gerut's injury really that serious? or is Gomez being sent down to the minors? Hopefully Cain will get a lot of playing time in CF over Edmonds.
  15. Jeffress had to be added to the 40 man regardless or he would have been exposed to the rule 5 I believe. So Jeffress was bound for the 40 man sometime this year.
  16. Fielder is not going to be traded I don't see many teams that match up with the Brewers who are willing to go ahead and make that trade. The Rays don't have the payroll to make the trade but have all the talent available to do a trade like that. The Yankees don't really need Fielder and don't really have the pitching prospects the Brewers are looking for. The Mariners have the payroll room but do they really want Fielder? The Rangers don't have the payroll flexibility to take on Prince but they do have the prospects to trade for Prince. That leaves the Red Sox and the White Sox as possibilities. I don't see the Red Sox giving up what would be needed to land Prince and I don't see the White Sox really having the right prospects to land Prince. So I really don't see Prince being traded this deadline at all unless Melvin gets real creative and another team like the Mariners plays along with the deal. Something like Prince, Hart, and Salome (though his mental problems may hinder his trade value) to the Mariners for Lee and Pineda then the Brewers send Lee to the Rangers for Perez and Reed. If the Rangers are not able to add on payroll Melvin should just pay all of Lee's remaining salary for this year and I am not sure if that would be possible though. The only way I see the Mariners doing this is if they would be able to sign Prince to an extension which I am not sure Boras would be OK with. Other than Melvin getting real creative with a trade and another team going along with it I don't see Fielder being traded. I can see Hart, Villanueva, Coffey, Bush, or a long shot here Weeks being traded. If Lawrie continues to produce in AA I could see the Brewers seeing Weeks being a luxury and trading him for pitching. I don't see Weeks bringing a lot back in return though since there really isn't much of a market for 2B right now same predicament that Melvin is in with Fielder right now. Hart, Villanueva, and Coffey have more value right now in the trade market than Fielder does. Right now you have the Red Sox, Padres, Yankees, and the Tigers in need of some kind of OF help. Then you have nearly every single playoff team that would need some kind of bullpen help and then maybe you can get lucky and find a team who may need a #5 starter like Bush (Cardinals). Not going to get much in return for Villanueva, Coffey, or Bush though.
  17. I saw that also. That would be a horrible deal by the Brewers if they did that. Unless the Brewers somehow can get Lee + a lesser prospect from the Mariners plus what the Brewers could get for Lee from someone.
  18. The Brewers are still buyers even if they trade Fielder or Hart.
  19. Anyone getting Crackdown 2?
  20. Can we get a new Bucks thread? This one is getting kind of long.
  21. There is no need to replace Hart with a player in return for a Fielder trade. The Brewers have enough OF talent in the minors to replace Hart with. Cain, Gamel, and Lawrie just to name a few who could possibly replace Hart in RF Gamel probably being the only player who wouldn't be an upgrade over Hart in RF defensively. There really isn't a need to get a bat in return of Fielder unless Melvin is thinking of trading Weeks also and still then there is enough bats in the minors to fill those holes.
  22. Richard Hamilton was a superstar for the Pistons along with Billups that year though. They weren't elite players but they weren't average and they were definitely just above being above average players.
  23. Jeffress to me is a lot like Chamberlain. Both have two good to great pitches that they can throw but they throw so hard they would have to turn it down a notch to be able to go more than 5 innings. Both Jeffress and Chamberlain have command issues and they start to become very similar players. I know a lot of my friends who are Yankees fans were very upset when the Yankees first had Chamberlain in the bullpen. Though I don't think the Yankees gave Chamberlain enough time to develop as a starter in the majors it is where he belongs. I would like to see the Brewers try Jeffress as a starter but he may not be a viable option as a starter and he may just be a reliever like Chamberlain. I would really love to see Jeffress as a starter but I am not going to be mad or frustrated if Jeffress isn't going to be a starter. I actually believe Jeffress being a reliever this year is probably the best thing for him at this time.
  24. I hate the word "seller". I don't think the Brewers have to be "sellers" at the trade deadline. Even if the Brewers trade away either Hart or Fielder I still won't consider that to be selling depending on the pieces coming back. Perfect example would be trading Fielder and Hart to the Mariners for Lee and a prospect and then flipping Lee and paying his salary to the Rangers for Perez and Reed or something like that. Even trading Hart for a player that can help this year and beyond wouldn't be "selling" it would be "buying". Though that is just semantics I just hate it when people throw around the terms "buying" and "selling" like that is what the team is doing when it couldn't be further from the truth. I believe the Brewers will be buyers this deadline and it isn't the "buyers" that the media and everyone is thinking about. I believe Melvin is going to get some players that will be helping this year and in the future. It is not like the Brewers opportunity to win is going away and the Brewers won't be competitive again for another 5-years here. The Brewers should be competitive next year and if not next year they will definitely be rather competitive in 2012.
  25. What about trading Fielder and Hart for Lee and Pineda along with trading Lee to the Rangers for Perez/Font and Evan Reed. That would give the Brewers three starting pitchers in the minors who all have good to great stuff. That maybe a low return for Fielder and Hart but really the Brewers are getting an ace pitcher in Perez a possible ace or #1 in Pineda and a #3 or #4 type pitcher in Reed. There maybe one or two more players in the deal but those players are going to be guys with big question marks. This would definitely help out the Mariners in the long run since they will be receiving one premium bat in Fielder and an average bat in Hart for Lee and Pineda along with any prospects the Brewers could pick up for Lee. I posted that in another thread before but that is what I would like to see happen. If the Rangers were not able to add on salary then I would just pay all of Lee's salary for this year just to get Perez and Reed. I believe that would be a rather fair trade for all teams involved.
