  1. With Bush there hasn't been much in terms of action not many teams are asking about him or are not interested in him. The Brewers are going to have to wait until Lilly and others are off the market to be able to trade Bush and that will probably be after the deadline and will be a waiver type trade. Hoffman is going to be in the same boat as Edmonds in that the Brewers are going to ask them if it is OK for them to trade them more so with Hoffman it is just one of those unwritten silly rules in baseball about veterans.
  2. It would probably have to be Lawrie I am assuming unless Jack Z really loves Gamel. But I would give up Lawrie for an ace like pitcher in Pineda.
  3. I don't see anything that the Brewers could have offered the Dbacks that they would be interested in for Jackson and I am not sure that would have been a good idea to trade for Jackson. I don't think the DBacks would be interested in Parra maybe Butler or Rivas but the Brewers would have had to of added another prospect or two for that deal to work and I am not sure that is something the Brewers should do.
  4. It probably has something more to do with Hoffman having his no trade clause. The Brewers probably have already asked Hoffman if it would be OK for them to deal him or it was silently agreed upon when they resigned him that they wouldn't trade him. I am going with the first part where the Brewers asked Hoffman if he would OK a deal prior to talking about trading him and Hoffman said no.
  5. Smoak is the only player of the three that would be in a discussion for a center piece of a Fielder trade. While Ramos is good he is not an elite player like Smoak could be and Hudson would be someone that you would add to a Smoak like player in a deal for a player like Fielder.
  6. The Mariners wouldn't go for this at all. The best option would be to trade Lawrie/Gamel to the Mariners for Pineda. I see where he says teams have only been offering him A ball players which if Melvin accepted a deal with all A ball players nearly everyone would be saying how dumb that deal is and to fire Melvin right away. I believe Melvin is looking for near ready MLB pitching there is a difference between the two by the way. Melvin is probably looking for a mix of A to AA type players like almost every proposed deal in this thread for Fielder it is just that teams are not willing to give that up for Fielder. Hart is the only player Melvin has been linked to for asking for a MLB pitcher which was Sanchez and Bumgarner.
  8. Who in the Brewers organization said they were in contention? I don't see Melvin saying it at all. You guys are taking the word from a person in a rival club way to serious. It is probably just the cook at the cafeteria for some team that heard something about something that that person heard from someone about something. So not a reliable source at all.
  9. Ah the infamous rival club informant. AKA not very trust worthy.
  10. I think you can cross the White Sox off the list along with the Angels which leaves zero teams that would be acquiring Prince at the deadline. It looks as though Prince will be dealt in the off season if there is a suitor for him then also.
  11. Well the Astros got more for Oswalt than the DBacks got back for Haren.
  12. I'm not sure the Rangers ever were serious about Fielder they may have just been looking at Fielder to drive up the price so the Angels wouldn't be able to get him. I don't think the Rangers wanted to realistically empty out their farm system this year with a Lee and Fielder trade. The best option maybe for Melvin to just wait until the off season to deal Fielder.
  13. For Font and Reed: http://www.texasleaguers....-font-and-evan-reed.html For Perez: http://www.texasleaguers....ez-and-juan-grullon.html
  14. There isn't really a big need for someone to fill in behind Gallardo next year though. All of the Brewers prospects are going to be coming around in 2012 so it would be better to have Perez than Holland.
  15. I just don't see how Holland will improve the Brewers more so than they would be without him.
  16. Holland won't be returning until August and I doubt the Rangers trade someone who is going to be in their rotation this year for Prince. Perez is only 19 years old and in AA of course he is going to have some blow-up outings. I still would take Perez over Holland and if the Brewers trade Prince this year I would rather have Perez than Holland. I don't see how Holland would really improve the team next year at all. I would rather have Perez for 2012 or 2013 plus Perez gives the Brewers more control years than Holland does.
  17. Yuck to Holland I am not all that impressed with him right now. Yes he had a good year last year but this year something seems wrong with him. Actually I think he is injured right now so you can scratch Holland off the list. A more realistic trade for Fielder involving the Rangers would be Perez, Font, and Reed with the Brewers picking up all of Prince's remaining contract this year. I don't see the Brewers getting anyone better than Font or Reed with Perez already in the mix.
  18. And there have been reports that there were two other deals that the Dbacks could have accepted besides the one that the Angels offered. You are also forgetting that Haren had a no trade clause to certain teams which were unknown and I am going to guess that Milwaukee was one of the teams on his list. So your analysis of the situation is completely off base.
  19. Off Season moves: Prince to the Dodgers for Loney, Scott Elbert, Garret Gould, and Kyle Russell. (OK that is probably way to much for Prince) Lawrie/Gamel to the Mariners for Pineda. OK maybe this won't get the Brewers in the playoffs next year but it will be a start for 2012. You can plug Loney at 1B for the time being and when his contract is up you can then slide Braun in to play at 1B. Pineda would be able to step into the rotation next year but the year the Brewers would benefit from all of these moves would be in 2012 when Odorizzi and others will be in Milwaukee. In 2012 you could have a rotation of Gallardo, Pineda, Rivas, Odorizzi, Scarpetta/Butler/Arnett/etc.
  20. From Cot's The top 5 paid 2B. Chase Utley, $12,142,857 (2007-13)Brian Roberts, $10,000,000 (2010-13) Robinson Cano, $7,500,000 (2008-11)Brian Roberts, $7,150,000 (2008-09) Dustin Pedroia, $6,750,000 (2009-14)Brandon Phillips, $6,750,000 (2008-11) Weeks probably fits in between Cano and Phillips dollar wise. I don't think Weeks will get $10m per year in free agency with the injury concerns. Somewhere around 4 years at $30-36m is where Weeks value lies maybe even a 5-year $50m contract with the 5th year being an option year if Weeks stays healthy this year and next year and continues to improve next year. You also have to take his defense into consideration. The max I could see Weeks getting is that 5-year $50m but it is probably closer to 5-year $45m with the last year being a team option.
  21. This is nothing that can't be learned on the fly while playing 1B. Even if Gamel makes a mistake at 1B that mistake really isn't going to hurt the team all that much.
  22. Villanueva has an option remaining so I believe the Brewers can send him down and I think Braddock maybe sent to the DL.
  23. It won't be Trout. well at least he did not go to the yanks. I thought the Yankees made a bad move by not trading Chamberlain for Haren. Chamberlain is a reliever not a starter so I really can't understand why they didn't trade Chamberlain + for Haren.
  24. Whats there to learn at 1B? You can stick just about anyone at 1B and they will be able to play there right away. There is not all that much you need to learn to play 1B and most of it can be learned on the fly. Playing 1B isn't like CF, SS, or C here there really isn't all that much you need to learn to play 1B successfully there is a reason why teams place their worst fielding players at either the corner OF spots or 1B. Gamel has already played a position that is 10 times harder to play than 1B putting him at 1B without ever playing there before is not a problem and he wouldn't need to play any games at AAA first before coming to Milwaukee and playing there. I could see an argument for RF but not 1B.
