  1. I wonder if the Tigers are really serious about trading Verlander. I know that they have said that anything is possible about trading some contracts and that they are looking to clear some more payroll. I wonder what it would take for the Tigers to trade Verlander. Obviously it is going to take a MLB ready pitcher plus a couple of other prospects to get Verlander from the Tigers. I wonder if a Salome, Parra, Cain/Schafer, and Scarpetta/Odorizzi. I'm not sure on the Tigers farm system so not sure if they would want Salome and Parra I'm not sure the Tigers would want either. Arnett is probably more along the lines that the Tigers would want but that would remove Salome from the list and probably any other pitcher in the deal that is in the top 20 for the Brewers.
  2. Actually Melvin asked about Vazquez earlier in the off season and the Braves were not interested in Hart who Melvin wanted to trade to the Braves for Vazquez. Obviously it would have included a middling prospect but I believe the Braves were not interested in anything that the Brewers had to offer other than Gamel obviously and I don't believe that the Brewers should have traded Gamel for Vazquez.
  3. For those interested Gamestop is currently having a 40-60% sale on some of their video games. Noticed that Dragon Ages Origins for the PS3 is at $49.99. Link
  4. The Brewers would have to throw another player in for that to work. I was thinking the same thing of a Suppan and Swisher exchange but it would probably cost another player that the Brewers really shouldn't be giving up. Also this will hurt the Brewers in terms of financial flexibility more so than just keeping Suppan. It will also hurt the rotation more since the Brewers would definitely have to find another starter with Suppan out of the mix that means selling low on Hart. Hart may also be the player being traded in that deal but it still doesn't really make sense for either the Brewers or the Yankees to do that swap. The only way it makes remotely any sense is if the Yankees wanted to grab Holliday but I believe the Yankees could get a better return for Swisher than Suppan plus a low prospect. Harang, Lowe, and others makes more sense than Suppan.
  5. Bullpen mostly. But I wouldn't want to give up one of our cheap bullpen guys for Swisher though. I wouldn't mind getting Swisher I just believe the Brewers have a really good bullpen right now and with the way the rotation is currently set up the Brewers are going to need a good bullpen.
  6. You could even do a Nady/Gerut platoon in RF.
  7. The Marlins don't always go after the best prospects and Willis was more of a salary dump than anything else. The Tigers were not even asking for Willis if I remember the trade correctly. Willis really was just a throw in salary dump and the Marlins believe he was done and was not effective anymore. Which they were correct and the salary dump made sense at the time for the Marlins. A similar move would be the Brewers putting someone like Parra in the deal if he was making somewhere around $6-10m a year. I do not believe Willis's value was any higher than a C type of a prospect definitely not worth Miller. Rabello and Badenhop are probably more along the talent that the Marlins got for Willis. So it was actually Miller, Maybin, De La Cruz, and Trahern for Cabrera. I wouldn't compare this trade with a Fielder one because it is not something the Brewers would be looking to do. Teixeira is more along the lines of what the Brewers would be looking to get in return for trading Fielder. Fielder and Teixeira even out defensively and offensively. Both are great hitters but Fielder has more power while Teixeira has better defense. To me that evens it out plus I believe Fielder is a more patient hitter than Teixeira is. So yes the Brewers are going to be looking at getting 2 A prospects and a couple of B and C type prospects. Bowden would be a C type prospect so your trade isn't very close to even the Cabrera trade in talent or potential talent.
  8. I would put Butler in the same spot as Narveson. Though as a #5 pitcher you are not looking for a guy that is going to be putting up a ERA below 4.50. I believe Narveson and Butler could give the Brewers replacement level value which is what Suppan will more than likely be giving to the Brewers this next season.
  9. The Rangers deal I proposed and that others have talked about wouldn't be a bad deal at all. Smoak is being compared to Teixeira with a little bit more power in his bat and the Rangers have a lot of good young power arms that the Brewers could choose from. If the Brewers could get Feliz and Smoak for Fielder that would be the #1 and #2 prospects in the game. I don't really like the Boston deal though I'm not that high on Ellsbury I believe the Brewers could get a better player than Ellsbury if they are trading Prince.
  10. No I don't think that will drive down Prince's price at all. There are other teams out there that would be looking for a DH or a 1B. The Angels come to mind as another team that has a lot of pitching depth in the minors that could be a good option for trading Prince to. You also have the White Sox (don't really have the prospects to do it though), Dodgers, and even the Red Sox again you could even make a case for the Giants, Yankees, and the Orioles. The Red Sox even if they get Gonzalez could still need a DH especially if Ortiz doesn't improve this next season. The Red Sox minor league system would definitely be nearly depleted though of anything the Brewers would want for Prince so that would hurt.
  11. I would rather go with Buchholz, Bard, and Almanzar/Kelly. Almanzar is who I would rather get than Kelly though and it looks as though the Red Sox are high on Kelly though so I would stay away from him and try to get Almanzar from them and see if Almanzar can bulk up a little bit and switch him from 3B to 1B or just put Gamel at 1B and have Almanzar come up as a 3B. That is who I would target for a Prince trade though I believe the Rangers are probably a better team to trade Prince to. I would start with Smoak and then add in a pitcher or two and that would be it.
  12. When who was that ref that got caught gambling on the game did an interview on Fox News I believe it was you have to start questioning the refs in the NBA. I believe he said that certain players get treated differently and that star players will get calls their way or someone else will get a foul that they committed. He also said that it came from the top of the league to do this kind of officiating. I believe the suspicions that everyone had about the refs and the NBA actually fixing games is somewhat true. Kobe, Lebron, and the other bigger stars in the league will get calls no one else will get. I believe Lebron calls his walks crab dribbles or something like that and the NBA is seriously thinking of allowing Lebron to do that and not call it a travel. I really hate David Stern and I can't wait for him to get out as the NBA's commissioner I do not see the love that the media and a lot of the NBA fans have for David Stern. Stern has never once tried to fix the ref problem in the NBA I believe he actually encourages it. I believe that Stern is the worst commissioner in sports. It is rather disgusting that players like Lebron and Kobe can get away with this stuff and get fouls that should be going against them but never do and they actually get a call in their favor.
  13. I thought there was a piece a long while back around when Hardy was traded about Riske. Can't find it now and can't recall what it said either. I believe that Riske is probably not going to be in the bullpen next year and at the earliest that you would see him would be around the All Star break I wouldn't count on Riske being available until then. Probably a little bit later after that Riske is going to have do some rehab first before he even starts in the minors. I wouldn't expect Riske to be an option until like August or September.
  14. I believe Narveson could easily replace Suppan's production for the Brewers. Suppan hasn't pitched 200 IP for a while now. I would rather have Narveson as the #5 than Suppan and I wouldn't mind trading Suppan for Byrnes as long as Byrnes is only going to be a platoon guy and we are not looking to have him being a full time starter.
  15. This year there is Butler and Rodgers as possibilities to help out this year. Next year obviously Rodgers, Butler, Braddock (could even help this year), and Arnett (depending on how aggressive the Brewers promote him). It all depends on the seasons these guys have some are not #1's, 2's, or even 3's but are #4's and #5 types of pitchers. There isn't zero there are a few that are ready to contribute to the team. If you want help with the bullpen the Brewers have a lot of options to consider for help there in the minors. There is Braddock, Rodgers, Axford, Butler, and many others that can come up and help the Brewers. Remember Morrow was tried as a closer and a reliever last year that has to put up some question marks if he truly can be a starting pitcher. Morrow is better than Rodgers and Butler but it is not like Morrow is an ace to be. I really do not see the love affair that everyone has for Morrow yes he is good but he is not that good. I would put Morrow on the same level as Rogers and Butler maybe a little bit higher than those two but not much higher. I don't see Morrow as being a #1 or a #2 type of a pitcher more like a #3 type of a pitcher and maybe a #4 type of a pitcher which is right where Rodgers and Butler are at.
  16. There should be a lot of pitchers that are on the market that haven't even had any buzz about them. Duscherer and Meyers come to mind as having very little interest from other teams right now. Both of those guys could be had for a one year contract. I either expect a trade or Duscherer, Meyers, or another veteran pitcher to be signed sometime after the holidays.
  17. Hobby shops usually carry things like that. Found this site doing a quick google search. ncphobbies.
  18. On the days McGehee would be coming off the bench would be the days he would have off. Amezaga only played 27 games last year plus he would only be playing in an emergency or being the last guy off the bench. Basically your full utility guy who has great defense in both the OF and the IF.
  19. I would rather sign Amezaga as the 5th OF than have Catalanotto again. Amezaga can play some great D in the OF plus he can play any of the three OF spots and would be a RH bat off the bench. Currently only Heether and McGehee would be a RH bat off the bench. Assuming Counsell comes back that gives the Brewers a bench of Counsell, Gerut, Heether, and Iribarren. Also would have to take into consideration if Gamel is in the minors or in the majors. Amezaga can also play any of the infield positions. I would rather have the versatility in Amezaga than Catalanotto both fill roles but I believe the Brewers can do better than Catalanotto. I would also rather have Amezaga over Iribarren as a utility player.
  20. Wouldn't be a bad minor league contract signing though if the Brewers do it. But I think Wang's marketing dollars that he gets will be lower if he goes to somewhere like Milwaukee. I believe Wang gets some money for publicity and it is dependent on the city he is playing in. I wouldn't be surprised if either the Mets, Yankees, Angels, or Mariners sign Wang to a two year or one year minor league deal. Wang should be ready to contribute by June or July to any team that signs him. With a minor league contract Wang would be a great pickup by the Brewers.
  21. Melvin did confirm that he spoke with Sand Diego about Correia but never got a response back from the Padres. I'm guessing that this signing is probably the reason why the Padres didn't respond back.
  22. Not really. Both Washburn and Davis would cost more than what Bush was making and that is debatable if they are even an improvement over Bush or even as good as Bush. Smoltz would also cost a bit more and I doubt Smoltz has much interest to pitch in Milwaukee looks as though he will be signing with the Phillies. I would rather pass on both Davis and Washburn especially with the amount of years they would want to be signed for and the dollar amounts.
  23. I'm wondering if Melvin is waiting for the asking price on Lowe, Meyers, and Correia will be coming down. Not sure on Lowe though because the Braves would have to pay a lot of his salary for the Brewers to take him on so I believe that eliminates Lowe. Meyers may come down and price and will only get a one year deal. I believe Meyers is looking to get at least 2 or 3 years with money close to what Wolf got I don't see Meyers getting that. Meyers should still be available late into the offseason for the Brewers to pick up. Correia could either be traded or non tendered depending on the cash situation out in San Diego. Maybe the Brewers could get Correia straight up for either Green or Villanueva not sure it would take both but it should take at least one of those two. Green would probably be the player the Padres would want most.
  24. The Braves were quoted earlier this month as not having any interest in Hart. That may have just been GM speak but I wouldn't be surprised if they were not interested in Hart.
  25. Figures I would remember something backwards. I would rather trade Villanueva than have him sit in the minors though at that price. I still believe the Brewers could trade Villaneuva for a back of the end rotation pitcher though. I don't want to take this to far off topic but Villanueva and Green for Correia wouldn't be a bad trade for the Brewers or the Padres. With the Hawkins signing it definitely does make a couple of the guys in the bullpen expendable. I doubt Melvin will get anything better than Correia in a trade though.
