  1. Because the Yankees need a CF and they already have enough corner outfielders and Kennedy would be in the bullpen more than likely. Cameron for Nady is equal. Hall wouldn't be a bad contract for the Yankees at all. If anything the Brewers would probably have to move a minor league bullpen player who is on the fringe of making the team Dillard and DiFelice type of pitchers.
  2. I agree with signing Dunn and trying to trade for Greinke. I just don't see the Brewers trading Hart to the Reds and I don't see the Reds trading Bailey to the Brewers so they can get Greinke. That doesn't really make much sense on the Reds part. I believe the Brewers could get Bedard from the Mariners for Hart, Brewer/Gillespie and Periard/Braddock. That might be to high for Bedard though considering he may not be healthy. Hart and Braddock might be enough for Seattle. Signing Dunn does open up a lot of options for Melvin down the road though. Melvin could trade Prince after this year and he won't have to worry about finding a replacement for Prince as quickly. A 3/$27-30 contract would be a really good price for Dunn.
  3. What about a 3 team deal that would send Kennedy and Nady to the Mariners, Cameron and Hall to the Yankees, and Cabrera and Beltre to the Brewers. I'm not sure on Hall to the Yankees though I would guess that Kennedy wouldn't be in the deal unless Washburn was going to the Yankees? The Mariners would receive a #3 or #4 type of a pitcher in Kennedy who I would think could excel in Seattle compared to being in NY. I'm not sure that Washburn would be needed for the Yankees though. I might be missing some prospects that would be going the Mariners way and less so for the Brewers and Yankees.
  4. What about a trade for Beltre that sends Hall and a prospect to the Mariners for Adrian Beltre. I believe Beltre has a few more good years in him this also frees up 3B for Gamel in 2010. I believe Beltre only has 1 more year on his current contract. I'm not sure who the prospect would be to get the value of Hall up to where Beltre is at. I would guess that someone like Brewer or Gillespie would be interesting for the Mariners. I wouldn't mind also putting in some more minor league prospects in to get Bedard if he is healthy. Would a Hall and Brewer/Gillespie be enough to get Beltre? By Breakdown AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB HBP SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS vs. Left 150 30 51 11 0 8 22 21 0 18 2 1 .340 .421 .573 .994 vs. Right 406 44 97 18 1 17 55 29 2 72 6 1 .239 .290 .414 .704 Home 275 31 66 14 0 10 23 24 1 48 3 1 .240 .303 .400 .703 Away 281 43 82 15 1 15 54 26 1 42 5 1 .292 .349 .512 .861 I believe Beltre would benefit from playing in Milwaukee and the NL Central.
  5. A Hall trade will only get you another bad contract in return not the salary relief the Brewers would be looking for though to add Peavy. Cameron and Hall would have to be dealt in the same deal or in a different deal entirely. I would trade Gamel and Brewer for Peavy straight up though but I'm guessing the Padres are looking for pitching prospects more than positional player prospects. Even though I think Brewer would be very attractive to the Padres. I just don't see the Brewers matching up with the Padres in a trade very well and if another team needs to be involved I don't see anyone on the Brewers roster that could be expendable without making another hole.
  6. Baldelli signs with the Red Sox to a 1-year deal.
  7. Baldelli also signs with the Red Sox on a one-year deal.
  8. Isn't Hoffpauir out of options? I thought Hoffpauir was like Nelson and out of options and would have to be on the roster or he could become a free agent. Maybe I'm thinking of something else though. Back on topic though that is one bad OF possibly the worst OF in MLB history defensively? The Cubs better hope neither Johnson or Fukudome get injured. That could become real messy in CF for the Cubs since they wouldn't have anyone to play CF if both of them get injured. What does Fukudome project defensively as in CF anyways? I would guess that he would be worse than what he was in RF last year defensively. That is a lot of ground that Johnson and Fukudome are going to need to cover in the OF between Soriano and Bradley.
  9. My list. I might be a little bit to high on Lawrie but I believe he is probably the best player in the minors that the Brewers have. 1. Mat Gamel 3B/OF/1B - Left handed version of Braun with a little less power. 2. Alcides Escobar SS - Gold Glove SS could be a Jose Reyes, Hanley Ramirez, or just an average to below average offensive SS. 3. Brett Lawrie C/?? - Lawrie's bat could carry him to the MLB club real quick it is just a question of what position he will play. 4. Jeremy Jeffress P - The stuff is there and if he can get his head on straight he could become a #1 or #2 type pitcher. 5. Lorenzo Cain OF - 2010 starting CF for the Brewers. 6. Jonathan Lucroy C - The best catcing prospect in the Brewers organization. 7. Angel Salome C/DH - If the NL had the DH rule I believe Salome would be playing for the Brewers in 2009. 8. Taylor Green 9. Alex Periard 10. Cole Gillespie 11. Zach Braddock 12. Caleb Gindl 13. Jake Odorizzi 14. Brent Brewer 15. Cutter Dykstra OF/2B - I really love Cutter and I believe he could become a good 4th OF or a utility player. 16. Omar Aguilar 17. Efrain Nieves 18. Seth Lintz 19. Logan Schafer 20. R.J. Seidel
  10. Except Cameron is a better option than any current CF FA. Abreu and Dunn are not CF's and are even worse than Hart defensively as a corner OF. For the money that Hart is owed and the amount of time left before he hits free agency Hart would be more valuable than Dunn or Abreu to a team looking to trade or sign someone like Abreu or Dunn. This is a great signing by the Rays though. They needed a right handed bat with some power. I'm just leary on Burrell's decline in the second half last year. Burrell also is very bad defensively in the OF and he really is only a 1B/DH option.
  11. No but Suppan is a better #5 pitcher than McClung. As much as everyone hates Suppan he isn't a bad #5 pitcher. Suppan is only an over paid #5 pitcher.
  12. If Manny only wanted a 1 year contract I would take Manny for 1 year but to be honest I would rather have the Brewers sign Bonds than Manny.
  13. Prince doesn't make sense for the Red Sox unless the Red Sox are seeing problems with Ortiz. Thats the only way the Red Sox would trade for Fielder I still believe the Angels are the best match for a trade. Fielder just seems to be someone the Angels would want to play DH for them Morales would be the Angels everyday 1B with Prince getting a start here and there. Back on topic now. Hardy makes some sense for the Red Sox though. The Red Sox were suposably going to make Ramirez into a CF. I wouldn't trade Hardy for Buchholz and Ellsbury though. I don't trust Buchholz and I believe he is nothing more than hype like Hughes and Kennedy. Those three are good pitchers but nothing I would trade Hardy for in a main deal. If the Brewers are not able to sign Hardy or Fielder this year to a long term deal I would look at trading one of them sometime this year. I like Ellsbury in the deal though I'm not sure who else the Brewers could get with Ellsbury in the deal and I believe Cain maybe a better option than Ellsbury anyways.
  14. Salome could make the team if his defense was better and going from Kendall and Riverra to Salome/Rottino and Rivera wouldn't be that much of a difference. Defensively it would be but I believe Salome's bat would be able to replace Kendall and his defense. Iribarren could come in if Weeks goes down with an injury as long as it would be a short stay there wouldn't be a problem. 1B Nelson could take over like Iribarren for a couple of weeks at most this is one spot where offensively there would be a huge drop if Nelson is taking over for Prince. But still Nelson's defense at 1B would be a improvement over Prince's and that would help out alot. The only real position that the Brewers need depth at is starting pitching everywhere else there are replacements who would at least be serviceable for a short amount of time if someone gets injured. I don't see that for the starting pitching though if someone gets injured in the rotation it will be ugly.
  15. Woodson was injured in the final year in Oakland and was battling some nagging injuries and was a question mark coming into that years free agency pool. Ryan Pickett is a spare part player. If you are going by Pro Bowlers as being a gauge to judge how good a player is in the NFL you are using the wrong indicator to come to your conclusion. I also said the majority of the free agents in the NFL. That means there are some players who are not like I described but the majority are what I described. The NFL wouldn't look any different than what it is now. The salary doesn't really inhibit Jones or anyone else from getting the top free agents. The Cowboys had enough cap space to add Randy Moss to their team if Moss decided to leave the Patriots he could have signed with the Cowboys. The salary cap in the NFL is not the reason why there is so much parity in the NFL.
  16. This has probably been mentioned before in this thread but I'll repeat it again. The majority of the free agents in the NFL are either above their prime, have a lot of injury issues, or are spare parts or veterans looking for that last push for a championship. In the MLB you have free agents that are scattered all around from veterans looking for that championship to spare parts. That is not including the many number of superstars in the list that are in their prime and will be in their prime for the majority of their contract that they sign to. There is no comparison to the NFL and MLB and trying to say that MLB should have a salary cap and there would be more parity in the NFL is not true at all. Take this into consideration the Jets this year spent about $100 million in the off season. The Yankees could do that in a salary cap and still have gotten Sabathia and Teixeira and probably even Burnett also.
  17. Penny had other offers out there besides the one from the Red Sox. Someone posted this in the Transaction/Rumors forum "There were a lot of teams involved," said Penny in a phone conversation, "but I wanted to go somewhere where I knew we had a great chance at winning and Boston is that place." From WEEI.com. It looks like Penny had his eyes set on a particular team or teams.
  18. Someone should tell the Lions fans that they are in the NFL and there is parity. Not to mention that the Lions haven't really been competitive since Barry Sanders was with the Lions. The salary cap in the NFL has very little to do with the parity in the NFL. How many free agents a year are actually super stars? How many free agents in the NFL are as effective as the free agents in MLB? If the free agents were entering free agency 3 years after being drafted then I would say a salary cap would be something that has an effect on the competitive balance in football. The parity in the NFL does not come from the salary cap it has very little effect on the parity in the league. A salary would have more of an effect on MLB than it does in the NFL. The Yankees would still get the top free agents with or without a salary cap. If you are modelling it after the NFL's salary cap then the signing bonuses still wouldn't count towards much of the salary cap and the Yankees and Red Sox and other teams would still be able to get the top free agents. A salary cap is not the answer if you are looking to limit the amount of free agents the bigger market clubs could sign. A better idea is to limit the number of Type A and B free agents a team can sign. A team can only sign 1 Type A free agent rated greter than or equal to 80.00 and 1 Type A free agent rated 80.00 or less. If a team signs 2 Type A free agents in one year they lose their first round this year to the team that has the higher rating the second team gets the teams 1st round pick next year. The team that signed the two Type A free agents can not sign Free Agent Type A's next year they can only sign any of their own Type A free agents that were on the 40 man roster at the beginning of the season. Type B free agents would be limited to 4. Teams would still get compensation picks for Type A free agents lost though. Limiting the number of Type A and B free agents a team can sign still keeps player salaries high so the player union wins and there will be more parity in the league because of it.
  19. The antennas on houses should be fine it is the rabbit ear ones that may need to be upgraded. The newest ones cost about $11 at radio shack and they are very good. I just got 2 converter boxes for my grandmother in Milwaukee she now gets 23 stations and the picture quality is as good as cable. The ones I got had a controller in them and were $19.99 more than what the coupon you get for them. So it was about $46 after tax that came out of my pocket to get the converter boxes. The rabbit ears that my grandmother have are about 10 years old and they work perfectly fine. I got this one for my grandmother since it can be programmed with her TV. So the controller can turn the TV off and on.
  20. According to the MLB.com the Giants have signed Randy Johnson. No details on the financials of the signing. Giants sign Randy Johnson.
  21. Morales is going to be the Angels starting 1B in 2009.
  22. Morales would be playing 1B not Fielder. Fielder would be the DH.
  23. I still get chills listening to that.
  24. I only bought 2 new albums this year. 1. The Offspring: Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace 2. Metallica: Death Magnetic Songs: Metallica: "The Unforgiven III" (This song has kind of grown on me) The Offspring: "You're gonna go far kid" The Offspring: "A lot like me" The Offspring: "Takes me Nowhere"
  25. Very little for batters I'm not sure on the pitchers though.
