  1. Why Villy? Dave Bush was already suggested... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. Already wrote in my "real" (wink, wink) 3 predictions, but it's time someone fills the rest of the crowd in on what will really happen this year. Without further prelude... The 2008 World Series between the Brewers and the Devil Rays is an epic showdown, even though the Brewers only have four pitchers healthy enough to be on the active roster. In the first three games, three of the four healthy pitchers the Brewers have- Sheets, Gallardo, and Parra- are injured, and the Brewers lose each game. Down 0-3 in the series, Milwaukee evens the series at 3-3 after back-to-back-to-back perfect games by righthander Seth McClung. The Brewers score 1 run in each of the three games on solo home runs by McClung. Unfortunately, after game six, McClung leaves Miller Park to go home for the night and is struck and subsequently injured by a baseball descending from orbit that is found to be a home run ball that Prince Fielder hit on May 19, 2006, that had never come down. With no pitchers available, the Brewers turn to Bill Hall to pitch in game seven. He pitches a complete game and gives up fifteen runs. Fortunately, Russell Branyan, who is subbing at third for Hall, hits three grand slams in his first three at-bats and hits a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth to win the World Series. Pandemonium reigns at Brewerfan.net.
  3. In 2005, Capuano threw 219 innings, struck out 176, walked 91, had a 3.99 ERA, and won 18 games. In 2006, he threw 221 innings, struck out 174, walked 47, had a 4.03 ERA and won 12 games. I think that a small-market team like the Brewers couldn't have risked not resigning Cappy. You can't let a guy like him just walk away. $3 million just isn't that much. Had you been the Brewers GM and non-tendered Vargas- and then found out that Cappy was out for the year- you would have 6 starters right now, including one whose innings must be limited. That's not a good situation to be in. You can't have too much depth.
  4. They would have been better off non-tendering him You're suggesting they could have predicted he would get hurt? They didn't know they were going to get no production, and they odds are he wouldn't have lost every game he pitched this year- and probably brought his ERA back down into the 4s.
  5. I don't even know why I read the comments after JS blog posts, but they are terrible. Saying it's good news... NO. Anytime you lose depth, it's bad. And people get the impression that he was sooo bad last year... he wasn't. He got unlucky. And now this... I hope he has the surgery and comes back strong and tries to make the rotation next year. But, sadly, his career is in trouble with two Tommy Johns.
  6. Good bullpens are built with guys like Jones, if he can have a decent year (at AA?) and stay healthy he'll get a shot at some point. A guy with his stuff still has plenty of time to make an impact in somebody's pen. Just look at guys the Brewers threw out there last year: Acquino, Dessens, Spurling... if those guys can pitch in the majors, Jones will be given every chance to succeed at some point.
  7. During the offseason, I was thinking that Weeks (and plenty of prospects) could possibly be part of a deal to get Haren, with Sheets then getting traded to fill a bullpen spot and second base (the Sheets to Atlanta for Johnson and Soriano rumor is what I'm thinking of). I wouldn't do the deal suggested on the top of the page now. Blanton's not quite good enough to justify creating a big hole at 2B, and though Street would be nice, he just wouldn't fit on the club right now. I think this club has a good situation right now. If the bullpen struggles, then you can look into a big fix at the trading deadline. Right now, I think Weeks is just too valuable and has to much potential to give up.
  8. Just beat me to it. They bought out two years of arbitration; total deal is worth $153 million. I imagine Prince won't be entering any discussions about long-term extensions now, unless he sees a number like that.
  9. mosquitos Let's hope that Ted has implemented a vastly more complicated steal sign this season. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Fielder needs more protection than Braun in the batting order because Fielder is more of a one-tool hitter It's already been noted that protection is overrated, but still, if you had to choose one to hit third, I would pick Braun. He rarely walked last year and struck out quite a bit. I think that with Fielder, you know what you're going to get- his production isn't going to change if he's hitting third or fourth. But Braun's production could be a bit more volatile. I think he would benefit more from hitting in front of Fielder than vice versa.
  10. I told him to log on What? Russell Branyan doesn't log on to the internet. The internet logs on to Russell Branyan. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif told him he had quite a following on brewerfan.net and that he was approaching cult status Approaching cult status? Seriously, Russell, if you're reading this, we love you. Even if a whole bunch of us spell your name "Russel Branyon".
  11. kendall was 10th out of 10 catchers that qualify. If you reduce it to 325 plate appearance, 30 catchers qualify, and he was 30th out of 30. Kendall is not a good hitter. We know that. That reference was trying to prove that it doesn't take much to be an average #1 catcher in the majors because the position overall is so weak. Something like .275/.325 and about 15 homers would probably be above average, and Vinny is capable of putting that line up.
  12. Good things that could happen... 1. Sheets wins 19 games 2. Corey Hart starts in the All-Star game 3. Gagne has an ERA of about 3.5 and 35 saves
  13. Among catchers that qualified for the batting title last year (it was around 420 ABs), Jason Kendall was 10th in OPS. There isn't much stability or production from the catcher position. I think most of us would agree that Vinny could outhit Kendall over the course of a year. MLB catchers are so weak right now that it doesn't take much to get above-average production. And from everything I've heard, Rottino is very solid behind the plate. He could get a shot as a starter next year, provided there is a safety net of a prospect or a veteran in case he would struggle. I'd rather see what Vinny can do next year until one of the decent catcher prospects are ready than have Kendall back.
  14. I doubt Hench had a vile mentality when he wrote it. I'm not sure about that. If you read the rest of the article, it pretty much defines vile mentality. The name of the 'column' is Henchman's Hit List. I actually think he was misinformed and being a jerk.
  15. a Penthouse model can make a living in any variety of ways I don't think the issue is that she is a model. The problem is that they let her do the weather because she is a model, and probably made a big deal out of it. Overall, it's kindof unprofessional in my opinion. To hell with Fox Sports. Bob and Jim are better anyways. Always have been, always will be. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. I would rather have it that way as well, but that isn't how it works, like it or not. In response to securedsports, what about Gagne's good friend Derrick Turnbow? Pretty sad, but I love it. I'm assuming you don't like Gagne. Is that what you meant?
  17. I'm with you Brian. That whole article was trash, they tried to play it up at the top of the page by naming it "Henchman's Hitlist" or something stupid. And in regards to the comments on the previous page: Using a "Penthouse Pet" to do the weather isn't the problem. The problem is that they make a big deal out if it on the broadcast, which makes it a ridiculous and somewhat insulting publicity attempt. I can't say that I won't be watching FSN broadcasts, but I don't watch their news channel and certainly won't go to their sports website.
  18. What has his velocity been like? Is he a hard thrower, or a Capuano-type guy that is around 89-90?
  19. Mike Hunt I was just thinking that, too. Though it's usually written as Michael. But still...
  20. Has anyone actually seen Narveson that could give those of us without MLBtv (or in Arizona) a quick scouting report on him? You know, basics like his stuff, velocity, pitching style, etc.
  21. Remember this game? Now, I'm not backing Cappy for a rotation spot or anything, but he was sooooo close to not having a huge losing streak right now so many times.
  22. ... and in related news, Seattle is in the market for a decent rightfielder. That Ichiro guy is just not getting the job done this spring.
  23. blow a save in the fourth inning Yeah, that was weird. I saw it in the box score. Didn't even give up a run, earned or unearned. You don't see that very often.
  24. And with Delgado being out, they were looking at Brady Clark at 1st Base. Ouch.
  25. i'm fine with yo going 200 innings this year, but if he averages 105 pitches a start, he'll be in trouble Good point. Yovani will be fine, but you can't go crazy and try to squeeze to much out of him.
