  1. I am surprised you think this. What was it about that tackle that makes it a penalty? He didn't lift him in the air and when he came down he came down off to the side and rolled off immediately. I am curious what you see differently. You are correct on all counts. Had there been no call, I would be praising Matthews for a great play. However, if I’m being completely objective, I thought he was a millisecond late. The ball was already out. At full speed, I don’t think think the defender can stop (but that’s the rule as it stands).
  2. ^^^ I’m actually advocating for less replay (no automatic reviews, max of 2 challenges per coach). I just want to see the scope of reviewable plays expanded. I accept that refs are human and prone to errors in judgement. I just want some recourse for reversing truly bad calls, including penalties. And yes, I think the Clay Matthews hit is still a penalty (barely) upon review.
  3. ^^^ Because a coach should be able to stop and say ‘that’s not right.’ What happens if the extra official in the sky doesn’t want to review the play?
  4. There is a simple solution. Coaches should be able to challenge nearly everything (including penalties). To keep the game moving, eliminate automatic reviews and give coaches only 2 challenges each. I’m willing to accept the human officiating element on most plays, but there should be a way for egregious calls to be rectified.
  5. Indeed. There’s a real possibility they go 1-4 after the bye: @Rams, @Patriots, Dolphins, @Seahawks, @Vikings. At least Seattle probably isn’t the dominant team they once were and we’ll be going into Minnesota coming off the mini bye.
  6. Aaron Jones is back next week. Rodgers will be closer to full strength. We haven’t seen the offense at its best.
  7. Minnesota had an extra possession too. They won the coin toss in OT and effectively had two possessions to the Packers’ one. That was one of 100 different wrinkles in the game. Some favored the Packers. Some favored the Vikings.
  8. Your concerns are valid. I share most of them. Just keep in mind that no team has a stacked 53-man roster (except maybe the Rams ... but they will have cap issues soon). Every team has a weakness - just ask the Vikings, right?
  9. I think this is one where no one is happy about it. Packers had multiple chances to put this one to bed. Vikings just needed a chipshot in OT. No one should like this. That’s basically my assessment, except I’m tolerating the tie a little better than most fans after having written off this game a week ago.
  10. 6 days and 23 hours ago, I had the Packers pegged for 0-2 at this point ... and probably 4-12 on the season. Cheer up. Minnesota is good. I’m not going to worry about hypothetical tie breakers until December.
  11. On the play where Rodgers was hurt last year, Barr drove him into the ground after the ball was released. No flag. Today, Clay completed a tackle after the ball was released. Flag. If you call one, you have to call the other. Barr’s hit was worse, IMO. Yet Vikings win both. Still won’t complain. We’re nothing without a QB. Gotta protect the QB.
  12. I’m more upset about the Saints squeaking out a win at home against the Browns than I am about The Packers tieing. A healthy Rodgers closes that game out 4 out of 5 times.
  13. ^^^ I thought the call on Matthews this week was a lot closer than the one last week. Still, that’s a call I would want Rodgers to get. That’s the NFL. You have to accept the human officiating element. Major shortcoming. But it is what it is. The call that still upsets me is the PI non-call that was followed by the offensive PI call on Adams. I thought the defensive PI was more egregious, but again, you could probably call something on every play.
  14. I’ve had a few, but you people and your Packer negativity crack me up. Let’s not pretend like every other Wisconsin sports team doesn’t constantly underachieve. Badgers lose to BYU. Brewers drop 2 in a row at home to a .500 team in September. The only other team I pull for that doesn’t eventually disappoint me is North Dakota hockey and they play with a loaded deck like Alabama football. Forever grateful for XXXI and XLV. The other guys get paid too.
  15. I share your concerns, but it’s too early to tell. They are still undefeated and Rodgers has been 100% for 1 out of 8 quarters.
  16. If you would have told me at the beginning of the week that they’d tie, I would have taken it (given Rodgers’ limitations). Amazingly, Dom Capers has conditioned me to accept this.
  17. Rodgers is active and so is Boyle. St Brown appears to be casualty on the game day roster.
  18. Personally, I love the TV product (especially with DVR). I haven’t been to a Packer game in 5 years. If I want to have a good time with my buddies, I’ll do it at Miller Park - by far the cheaper option and I live near Green Bay. That being said, there’s a certain charm to Lambeau and even if 80,000 people don’t want to go 10 times per year, 800,000 people will still probably want to go once per year.
  19. Unlike MLB and, to a lesser extent, the NBA, I don’t see how Alabama and Ohio State have an unfair advantage. An advantage? Sure. But unfair? If you want to see instant balance in college football, let teams pay up to 5 players $100,000 / year. The top recruits will scatter across the country. Will never happen though.
  20. I found bratchos last night. They were at every nacho stand. The portion size had decreased significantly since I last tried them in 2015, but the $10 price tag remained the same. 0 for 3 this year in finding souvenir cups. I’m not a big memorabilia collector, but have made it a point to get a souvenir soda at every Brewer game I attend going back at least 10 years (which is only 2-3 per year).
  21. ^^^ I think that’s more of an accounting trick that schools use to hide how unprofitable most college programs actually are. For example, at North Dakota, you have to be a ‘Champions Club’ member to buy premium men’s hockey tickets. That revenue is allocated to the general athletics fund (and not men’s hockey); however, very few people join the Champions Club without the intention of buying men’s hockey tickets. In pro sports, it’s not an accounting trick - just a cash grab.
  22. Do they still have souvenir soda cups at Miller Park? How about Bratchos? Where might I find them?
  23. Part of me wishes they’d charge another seat license fee just to get tickets out of the hands of the thousands of ‘fans’ who get their season tickets and immediately run them over to a third party distributor for a quick profit. But yes, the concept is rediculous - charging someone for the right to buy something.
  24. Those under 10,000 can pray for a North end zone expansion. I didn’t add myself to the list until 2015 and I’m now in the 114,000 range. This was about the time my wife and I were talking about starting our family and my intention was to effectively give my future grandchildren a 30-year head start. For those not already on the list, I say go ahead and add yourself just so you can get a postcard from the Packers every year and watch yourself move up a few spots. It’s fun.
  25. I’m kicking myself for not getting my 2 year-old son on the list sooner. I finally added him 4 months ago and he’s in the 134,000 range. Waiting the extra year and a half probably cost him 10,000 spots. I did get life insurance with GPOs on him when he was 3 days old to lock in his insurability, so I’m not totally negligent.
