  1. Going and finding a better option than Weeks is a very possible option, but Durham isn't a better option than Weeks this year or next year. Not offensively, defensively, or financially. I understand the arguments against "cherry-picking" stats. However, why ask for a replacement when the man has in fact been playing well for about three months now? This is about what we think he will do in the future, not what he did in April and May. Based on his age and recent improvements, I'd say it's more likely that he improves on his numbers right now, this season and next, than regresses.
  2. Melvin and Co. would be stupid to not bring back Cameron. Career Averages: .250/.340/.449 2008 Season (age 35) .244/.333/.506 With great defense in center. I don't understand all the anti-Cameron talk I hear. What kind of production was everyone expecting? The guy strikes out 140 times a year, hits .250 with a lot of walks, and goes 20-20. I'll take that in center any day of the week. As for 2010, I'd rather see Braun in Center than Hart, assuming he keeps improving. Finding a new centerfielder who can hit is a lot harder than throwing a stick in left.
  3. I heard Branyan either strikes out immediately with the women, goes all the way, or walks straight into the friend zone.
  4. I've always thought of that loss column thing as being nonsense, too. It's one thing to say that the loss column is slightly more important than the total games back, but when I hear guys on ESPN saying that the loss column is "All that matters" I get slightly irritated. That being said let's get one more game closer to free burgers!
  5. Tom H is the epitomy of a jag. I don't even bother reading his articles anymore. The worst part is he has all the casual fans eating out of his hands who will take his opinion as fact after every read (not saying that about anyone here, my dad and my friends come to mind). But what I really wanted to vent about was the amount of venting ABOUT venting going on here. For example, "We're playing so well lets stop being so NEGATIVE I'm so sick of talking about Counsell". I mean, come on. What's fun about being happy with playing well? We're 18 games over, I want to be 19 games over, it's human nature. That's all.
  6. "The Brewers are in Grand Slam Range!" - BA
  7. Counsell heard us all talking about him.
  8. Does anyone remember when they asked Simba why Counsell was playing so much and he just muttered something bitterly about keeping players sharp? I get the feeling he's about as against him starting as most of us here are.
  9. This is the kind of protection for Hart we've been waiting for.
  10. I would do a lot of things to be watching this game right now.
  11. Lastings caught it on the other side of the fence according to gameday.
  12. I've kind of always gotten the feeling that Braun was kind of a jag as well. Also, I don't consider his season to be more productive than Fielder's, despite higher expectations for Prince. That being said I just asked my sister for her top 10 Wisconsin sports stars and she started thinking extremely hard and could only come up with this. "Ummmm..... Hall? Bill Hall? That's it." She's 22. She came up with "Fielder, Reggie White, and John Mckglocklin" later.

  14. Last night the error by Sabathia and the botched double play ball by Hardy both would have been caught by an average first baseman. He should have switched from the fair side of the foul line to the foul side and reach for Sabathia's ball and he didn't even get a glove on relatively easy shorthop from Hardy. It didn't end up hurting us but I'm just saying.
  15. Ned coaches by instinct and guts, not by reason or statistics. Bold Predictions: 1. Two Brewers will have 4 hits 2. XBH, rbi and 8 innings for Carsten Charles 3. Craig Counsell with a sleazy double down the first base line, ensuring his spot in the starting lineup for the next 3-4 games. A small side note: Why doesn't the opposing teams first baseman literally straddle the foul line when counsell is up? I don't understand.
  16. I have to admit it's getting better. A little better all the time.
  17. He just missed that hanger for the 5th hit today, too. Weeks seems to be pulling the ball a LOT more than he has in past years, and I think that's at the root of all his troubles. It seems like every hit he's had this year is right down the third base line or at BEST up the middle. Good to see 4 of his last 6 at bats ending with a hit to right field. I hope something has mentally clicked for him about hitting oppo, because I'm sick of people trying to tell me Ray Durham is our best option.
  18. My friends and I had about an hour long conversation one day about who would step up and who would kind of jog in from the bullpen if a brawl were to happen. Our ranking of guys you wouldn't want to mess with was 1. Prince 2. Rickie 3. The Muscle 4. Kapler 5. McClung Additionally, Sheets, Gagne, and Shouse were the guys not throwing a single punch, and Jason Kendall was voted dirtiest fighter. As far as the game goes, let's stop giving Soriano and D-Lee so many fastballs.
  19. I'm a sucker for Griffey. He could get there in the 2010 playin DH. After that I'll go A-Rod, Jeter, Ichiro. 3,000 is a lot of hits. On a side note Jason Kendall is surprisingly high for career hits at Catcher.
  20. Braun has been playing incredible lately, but I don't consider him to be in the same class as these players. He sure does excel in the right kind of statistics, though.
  21. I was sick to my stomach when Rickie slung that sidearm garbage into the dugout. That being said, benching Rickie because of one game, especially one that was no doubt his worst of the season is ridiculous in my opinion. As has been said numerous times, he's been hot for the last 20 days or so. Durham is a worse defender despite anything TH has to say. I just see all of this as knee-jerk reactions to a crushing loss. I think we're kidding ourselves to think Durham will play better in the 58 games remaining.
  22. I just want a sweep of Houston so that first Cubs game is for free burgers.
  23. at least he doesn't wear a cross earring and spin after the ball clears the fence.
  24. I think the issue of money for JJ moving over is irrelevant. JJ would be signed to a long term contract before the move, assuming Alcides isn't up by opening day next year. So he'd be signed for SS money anyways. As far as production goes it's already been said that he'd be an above average third baseman offensively (and definately defensively). That being said, I'd much rather move JJ to third for a couple reasons. One, the knock on JJ defensively is that he lacks range. He has a plus arm and a plus glove. Second base is a position that values range probably more than any other position. Arm strength is also not a necessity at that spot. Third base suits JJ's strengths much more than 2nd base. The other reason is I'd rather keep Weeks long-term than Hall, and I don't think Gamel will stick at 3B. I'd love to see a Gamel, Weeks, Escobar, Hardy infield for the next half dozen years or so starting in 2010.
