  1. What the heck is wrong with this umpire?
  2. Thats nonsense. The ump just called Hall out on strikes on the same exact pitch that was a ball 3 pitches before. That was ball 4.
  3. I have it MLB.tv and radio so I could record that and post it up here, but I'm not sure on the BF.net policies behind posting that kind of stuff. I could post a transcript if you like http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif. It's a great call, but honestly, you can't hardly even hear him over the crowd.
  4. Ha, this team doesn't deserve to be in the playoffs anyhow. What a bummer.
  5. Stay classy Edmonds. Good work. Ha, looking at that replay, it doesn't take a lip-reader to figure out what he said to get rung up so quickly.
  6. I tell you what, McClung looked pretty darn sharp right there. Hitting 97MPH on the clock with good control.
  7. that was some quality pitch location from Torres. The only hit he can't give up, he manages to do. Here's to coming back and winning this one!
  8. The numbers I listed are over the course of nearly 1/2 a baseball season. I would consider that sample size ample.
  9. Well that certainly isn't the case. Since the ASB, RW has started 38 games and gotten 185 PA's (compared to 351 first half AB's). His stat line is: .265 / .378 / .426 / .804 compared to .217 / .320 / .367 / .687 in the first half Since the ASB, Durham has started 19 games at amassed 100 PA's. His stat line is: .273 / .360 / ..477 / .837 Suffice it to say, coincidence or not, Rickie is a much better ball player when he is not playing every day. EDIT: And I will also note that they are both having easily their best months of the season in September. Again, coincidence or not, they have basically split time evenly with Durham starting 9 games and Rickie starting 7.
  10. Here is another spin on things. Maybe Rickie is better suited to only play 3 games per week rather than 5 or 6. Since the ASB, he has put up vastly better numbers and coincidently or not (I say not) we have had Ray Durham for that same period. I'll take Rickie's post-ASB numbers for 3 games per week any day over his pre-ASB numbers for 5 or 6 games a week. We are getting much better production out of the 2B spot, and thats all that matters to me. If Rickie can prove that he is worth 5 or 6 starts a week, then I would rethink it but for now, why change something that isn't broken?
  11. For the 2 people who may not have seen or heard of it, on Sunday, NFL referee Ed Hochuli made what will probably be the worst call of the season when he blew a play dead after Jay Cutler of the Broncos fumlbed in the red zone of the chargers with less than 2 minutes remaining in the game. He ruled it as an incomplete pass. The chargers would have been able to kneel the clock out and it essentially cost them the game. Chargers fans are obviously outraged, so they flooded Hochuli's email with hate messages (which is really stupid if you ask me). Ed Hochuli, is such a man and he feels so bad about the call that he is actually responding to these messages. That takes some serious cojones to write these people back 1 by 1 with apologies. I have always liked Ed Hochuli and he is a great referree. This makes me like him even more. story here
  12. Yeah, thats what I was saying. By acquiring some guys who get on base more, the team would produce more runs. I haven't suggested at all that Melvin should be fired.
  13. I can't help you here, but I am also interested if anybody has an answer. One of my buddies bought a floor model (ugh, don't get me started) 42" panasonic about a year ago and it does the same thing from the sounds of it.
  14. 1) Yes, I meant in my earlier post to say that Escobar could get on base more and put himself into scoring position more becuase he's a guy with some serious speed. I didn't mean to say he would knock in more runs 2) I don't see how you figure Hall + Hardy + Weeks will score more runs than Escobar + Hardy + Weeks. Yes he is young and unproven, but lets be honest, Bill Hall is one of the worst hitters in MLB this season (and not much better last). I would say at worst, Escobar in the lineup could produce the same amount of runs while providing a nice defensive upgrade. Whether Ned Yost and Doug Melvin are willing to admit it or not, it hurts the team having guys who K as much as ours do. How many dozens of times can you recall this season where we strike out with 1 out and a runner on 1st or 2nd. That changes the enitre complexion of the inning because a sacrafice no longer will get that run in. Obviously DM knows that this because he was tirelessly trying to get a guy who k's less in the off-season, but we ended up getting Cameron instead (who is having a pretty good year). While we are deviating very far off topic, my point was that instead of having 5 or 6 guys who can bop 25HR/season, it would be nice to have some men with higher OBP's to complement the home run hitters more.
  15. Even if a player like Escobar doesn't lead to more runs, throwing a few people like that in the lineup that can knock a guy in instead of hitting a HR all the time will at least lead to a more consistent baseball team. I'm not suggesting there is a "right way" and a "wrong way" to score runs, but I do believe we would be more productive if we had some guys on base once in a while when we hit HR's. Like I said, I just wanted to discuss it. I wouldn't be suprised if Melvin's job hinged on these last 12 games (whether justified or not). When a team explicitly states that they are going for it, and have enough talent to get there, they must make it or things need to change.
  16. Does anybody with ESPN insider care to tell those who are less privelaged what Rob Neyer said on his Blog about this: http://insider.espn.go.co...589565%26name%3dNeyer_Rob
  17. Oh, yeah I understood that. I was just saying that I don't think Jack Z and/or Melvin should be moved. We need to keep the guys who have shown a propensity to draft talent because small market teams rely so heavily on it. I think this will certainly shape up to be an interesting offseason for the Brewers between the impending personel changes and (hopefully) some nice FA aquisitions to complement our core players. I guess another point is that I am just assuming Jack Z has a desire to be a GM. He very well might be content as a scouting director. Maybe he loves it and understands that he is one of the best in the game at that particular job. I would be more than happy to keep him there, but would hate to lose him.
  18. I said he is like THE Jason Garrett of MLB, not Jason Garrett of the MLB. So yes, I was referring to the Cowboy's guy. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Kind of some interesting takes on this so far. I agree, that I think we continue to stockpile the wrong types of players (i.e. guys who can hit HR, but not produce runs well). I think if we added more guys who can produce or create runs (Escobar) we would be far better off. That being said, I don't agree with the idea that we should have completely cleaned house. We have one of the most talented young teams in MLB, and as a small market team we have to be able to draft talent, because we won't be able to pay for top-tier free agents.
  19. With the news of Yost getting fired, I just wanted to see what everybody thought about the possibility of Melvin getting the axe after this season and Jack Z getting a chance at the GM spot. I'm not calling for it, as I think Melvin has done a pretty decent job, but I sure would hate to lose Jack to another club. He has to be one of the best things that has happened to the Brewers in a long time. As the first non-GM ever to win the MLB executive of the year award, he has shown a true ability to draft top-teir talent. I feel like Jack Z is somewhat like the Jason Garrett of MLB. I think if we don't make him a GM soon, someone else will snatch him up and take a great mind away from our organization. Let's open it up for discussion. What are your thoughts?
  20. Just read this and I think it sums up exactly how I feel about our team currently:
  21. Isn't there some speculation that LaRussa and Leyland may be done with their respective clubs? I would love to see Jim Leyland in a Brewers uni.
  22. YEAH! Lets get this train started from day 1. I like where your head is at http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  23. Well, something drastic needed to be done after the slide these last 2 seasons, and something has been done. I at least they would wait it out and if we didn't make the playoffs, he would be gone. Guess Melvin and Co. decided to be a little more proactive than that and still give us a chance this season. Hopefully the next 2 weeks are nice for us http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  24. I started Warner and Cutler. Had a pretty darn good day from teh QB Spots
  25. Just wanted to get an opinion from you guys. I am in a 6 man fantasy league (everyone's teams are stacked basically), and my 4 QB's are: 1) Kurt Warner 2) Jay Cutler 3) Aaron Rodgers 4) Matt Casell We are playing a 2 QB format. Which 2 do you think I should start? I am going with Jay Cutler for sure, but am debating between Kurt Warner and Aaron Rodgers for the last spot. The Packers play the Lions who have a pretty poor defense, and Ryan Grant may be out, so they would have to throw more. On the other hand, the Cardinals play the Dolphins who alwasy stink and Kurt Warner has some major weapons. Thoughts?
