  1. At the end of the day the cost of going down there and arguing outweighs the cost of having Corey bully them into paying more than they feel he's worth. He's taken advantage of the club's goodwill and thought there was no way they'd take this to arby. It is a slippery slope with these things. I'm glad they're down there and I'd expect them to win.
  2. I say we go with a Mulder, Cappy, Wolf, DD, Manny rotation for the novelty of 5 lefties. In seriousness, I have to agree with the majority. Solid move; hope it gets Soup moved; Still think the difference between 85 and 95 wins for us will rest on how well of Gomez, Manny and Rickie play. If those guys play even close to their potential, we'll be fantastic.
  3. Seems like a pretty good deal for the Giants. Not sure why he didn't garner more interest, as he's a very versatile fielder with a solid bat. I heard the Yanks were interested, so I'm a bit surprised this already got done with the Giants.
  4. This makes no sense to me. Stros were supposed to be limited in spending and they go out and dish out a 3 year deal to a reliever? LaTroy is similar to Lyon and they are going to pay him $2+ mil a year more than we are paying? Don't get it.
  5. Those Aces all have HUGE question marks from an injury stand point. I like Garland. He's had a good career and would immediately become our 2nd best starter. Assuming it would be a shorter contract than Wolf, he could offer similar stats. He does have a lot of innings, but otherwise, I'm all for it.
  6. Heyman said it is 3 years $27 "#mets efforts for randy wolf appear fruitless. looks like it's #brewers for 3 yrs, about $9 mil per." I guess "about" could imply more.
  7. Maybe we could bring the Dodgers into the fray and throw Hart and Soup for Maine and Pierre with the Dodgers getting Castillo and maybe a prospect from us and Mets. Long shot, but just throwing that out there.
  8. Pierre absolutely has more value than Soup does. If we're signing two more SPs as Melvin has said, that leaves no place in the rotation for Suppan. He doesn't want to go in the pen and I don't think he has the right makeup to be a RP (but I don't have any metrics to prove that). Pierre at least would offer us something off the bench and depth in the OF. We don't have much OF depth in the minors that could step in if Gomez stinks or Braun gets hurt. I'm all for it, but can't imagine the Dodgers would go for it.
  9. I'm not that upset. Great defender, frees up cash, good upside. If we can all agree that Hardy would've netted a #4, would that have been any better? We already have 5 #4s on our roster. I think this was a shrewd move with little downside.
  10. $8 mil is quite a bit, but if we get the production we got this year from him, I'd gladly take it. Keep Coffey and develop some of those younger guys and the less we have to deal with guys like Gagne, Jorge Julio et al. I fully expect Melvin to look at the scrap heap and see if anything sticks, but his attention will be on the starting rotation, catcher (hopefully) and elsewhere.
  11. Also, something that will really put the awfulness of the starting staff into perspective for those who don't like ERA. Of the 67 NL pitchers who pitched at least 100 innings, 4 of our starters appear in the bottom 7 slots for OPS against. Truly one of the worst starting staffs ever put onto a baseball field. WOW. THAT IS INCREDIBLE.... Does Soup have value in the pen at all? Seems that it would be a little crowded in there and I always felt like the first inning was his worst. I looked it up and he has a 1.071 OPS in the 4th inning this year. I was wrong.. .Amazing...
  12. The 2006 off-season, I remember three similar signings of pitchers like Soup. Interesting to see how they went: -- Dodgers inked Schmidt to a 3 year $47 million deal most people agreed that we got the better deal. Schmidt has started ten games over those three years to Soup's 90. --Gil Meche was signed that same season for 5-years $55 mil., Meche has pitched better than expected --Ted Lilly signed a 4 year $40 mil --Some guy on the Giants signed a 7 year $125 million deal. Soup, in my mind, falls in the middle of the pack, although some of you probably wish he'd have as many starts as Schmidt. He's been better for the buck than Zito and Schmidt. Cubs did well with Lilly and Meche has really beaten expectations so far, but has two more years. Just shows you how ridiculous things were in the 2006 off-season.
  13. I know it'd never happen, but fun to imagine a Milton for Soup swap. Ooops, here it is...
  14. That isn't really a playoff caliber team from a pitching standpoint and guys like Burns, the Hurricane and Gerut really shouldn't make the team. The pen needs a few upgrades and I'm guessing DM does his annual run through the bargain bin to see who sticks. I wouldn't be surprised if we threw another sizable deal to Hoffman who clearly will want to pitch another year to stay ahead of Mo. He's great on the team and brings a lot of energy to the stadium. I expect a decent year out of Riske.
  15. I'm done...can't believe how awful we are. This is a makeshift Pirates team of scrubs and we look like garbage. I know it is just one game, but this has been going on for over a month now.
  16. Come on Boys!!! The state of Wisconsin needs you today!
  17. The PTBNL for Weathers better have been Julio Machado.
  18. Another opportunity for Ueck to complain about Valverde.
  19. That cannot be an actual question. They probably just ran out of questions.
  20. Luxair Pick: Bill Hall...Can't they just swap those cards out? On a day like today, the person stands a really good chance.
  21. I feel like this is a big AB. If we get out of this inning with a 6 run lead, it would be very nice.
  22. I won't mind seeing Kooz, Adrian and Eckstein leave town. Those guys are so annoying.
  23. Is this true? If so, that increases his trade value in the off-season one would think. I'm fine with the move because we're going nowhere right now and might as well see what next year has to offer. I'd love to see Salome up too.
