  1. Is it me or is Narvy tipping his pitch in that picture? Macha is overthinking the Bush thing.
  2. Kids are doing well and could add some excitement to this season. Especially enjoyed the shot of narveson, manny and yo shooting the breeze in the pen. The team seems a bit looser with this new blood.
  3. The whole thing is strange 'cause Casey is one of the most likeable players on our team. Comes to play, doesn't make a fuss, good in the community. Hopefully Aybar is alright.
  4. Hope we get bad Ervin. He's one of those hot/cold pitchers since the start of last season. Meanwhile Soup has a better outing than he's had in months. Interesting that the only blemish was from a Milton Bradley HR.
  5. The guy has to have a negative WAR. It is unreal how easy it is for the opposing players to get hits. I guess I got to see his last decent performance last year on July 3rd in Chicago. He held the Scrubs to 4 hits in 7 innings. I also wish the guy would come out and say something along the lines of what Wolf said last week when he stunk. I feel like Soup, while getting the 'classy' reputation from the press, hasn't done anything to show that he's trying to get better. He's just loving his money and walking out there every few days for tee ball. Good riddance. Bring back Jamey Wright.
  6. Almost as unexpected as Kelly Johnson! Good thing Corey passed him up.
  7. I had Braden on my bench in fantasy because of this matchup. Oops. Why is Coffey hardly using his slider?
  8. Those are great fangraphs for this discussion (would love to see the JJ Hardy first pitch swing/take from 2009--probably no data for the swing). WarningTrack may be right, but I feel like it has been so long since we've seen the disciplined Corey Hart the doubles player that I find it really hard to see him as that.
  9. Jeff Baker is batting .410 against the Brewers in over 40 ABs. Explain that...
  10. If that is true and he's laying off those pitches, you'd have to conclude that it isn't the same old Corey...At least that is the hope.
  11. Interested to hear others' thoughts on Hart's recent games. He had a few misplays in the field, but there seems to be more pop in his bat and his approach seems a bit better. Part of me thinks that pitchers have failed to attack his weak spot (ie throwing in the dirt in the LH batting box), but dare I believe he may be returning to decent form?
  12. I'm headed to the game right now (provided I can get out of the office). Will be heckled, but hopefully Sharpie has my back and we're not too tired from yesterday!
  13. No way they leave Hawk in. They are pushing this "chase" to 600 too much to not give the man the ball up three at home. Hope he doesn't have to go against Holliday.
  14. Newhouse has gotten away with a few meatballs. Lucky he's facing the bottom of the lineup. Interesting that Hawkins is only coming in for Ryan?
  15. Dare we believe that 1st half of 2008 Corey Hart is back? I know it is one game and they're pitching him up, which is idiotic, but he's hitting it on the nails. "Stop comparing teams to the Yankees. Let's talk about the 29 or 30 other teams." This is getting really tough to listen to.
  16. New York didn't sign Hideki, therefore they are a small market. Is that what you're telling me?
  17. "What is a small market and what is not a small market?" Orel + Joe is like Econ by Dummies
  18. Dareen Oliver? Really? Wow. That is really interesting. Of the guys in their 30s, 60% play in NY.
  19. Good deal. If I were Prince, I'd wait to see what happens during the course of this year. If they can get Alcides and Weeks to extend, you'd have to think that Prince would be upbeat about the long-term future of the team. Not sure why Weeks' status isn't discussed more, but I'm sure there will be suitors even if he is oft-injured.
  20. Hart looks bigger in that picture too. Did he put on some weight/muscle or is Alcides just that small?
  21. Good deal for the D-Backs. Love to see teams doing this, but not clear why Upton agreed to it. With arby rates going so much higher, why not just stick to that?
  22. Soriano is incredibly untradeable at this point. He is due $18 mil through 2014. NO ONE would take that deal. Zambrano is owed over $18 mil a season through 2012 and he is an ace for only a month or two a season and stinks the rest. He's the 4th highest pitcher this year and you can't tell me that he's even in the top 30 starters. They have so many Suppanesque contracts on that team that don't go away next year--Fukudome ($13mm), Dumpster ($13), Lee ($13 is a little high, but not ridiculous yet), Lilly ($12mm), Silva ($12mm through 2011 w mutual option for 2012)... They better hope guys like Wells and Soto prove that they aren't one year wonders, cause they have some garbage on that team. Also interesting: Fukudome gets 8 first-class round-trip air tickets between Japan and Chicago for family each year, personal trainer, masseuse, interpreter, visa expenses, $25,000 annually in moving expenses, vehicle during spring training and regular season
  23. If you consider the payroll and age of the Cubs over that span, plus the Pirates continuing to be the Pirates, I feel like we will be at worst a 3rd place finisher from 2011--2014. If Reds extend Dusty a few more years, it'll be us and the Cards...
