  1. Rumor is that Jarmillo is coming home. Not a world beater, but decent defender. Maybe the crew decides they don't need Kottares' bat off the bench, so having a good defensive catcher is a good idea. That said, we seem to have a glut of AAAA catchers.
  2. People rag on Roenicke for a lot of silly decisions he makes but I have so much more confidence in his ability to successfully steer a team than in Dusty. I've been watching Baker for a long time and even if you're of the ilk who doesn't think a manger influences the game you know he's a detriment.
  3. He bunted the ball into his face. The highlight was pretty funny until you realize he really hurt himself. Never would've happened had he stayed in the soft AL.
  4. Gamel has a total of 6 SB in the past 3 seasons combined, so I doubt he'll lead the league in stolen bases. Personally, I think he is a below average 1B this year and we end up moving ARAM to 1st next year and Green slots into 3rd. Gamel will platoon a bit and end up being traded after the season. I just don't have high expectations.
  5. I'm betting it was Counsell and Yuni. They probably ate some granola bars that Gagne left behind.
  6. I like that interview. He seems like a good guy and I appreciate his credo to "come prepared." I still miss Powell and his insight on the farm, butim welcoming joe and think he will be good.
  7. I'm surprised he'd take a minor league deal and couldn't get anything better. He's a former gold glover with mediocre numbers who doesn't strike out a lot. If you're doing a straight position by position comparison of 2011 vs 2012, this is a clear upgrade over Wilson/Counsel. No doubt in my mind that he ends up on the Major League roster and he ends up with 30-50 starts.
  8. Punto is garbage. He was mediocre in Minnesota, then added 40 lbs of fat and got a little lucky. He was an absolute rally killer for that team in the playoffs when they were putting up tons of runs. I don't get this for the Sox.
  9. I blame Gagne, Kapler, Turnbow and Ricky Bones. They must've left something in the bubbler
  10. K-Rod of Kendrys? Jordan Walden isn't anything special.
  11. I doubt he is on our roster come opening day. Some team will need a closer come Spring Training. It seems to me that there is a free spending team with a new ugly logo that may have a need at closer. I know it is a long-shot, but what if we sent KRod and $ to Marlins for Anibal Sanchez, Bonafacio or Infante? If he is on his roster at end of ST: if we're a contender next year, it will be partially due to our shut down pen and KRod's performance. If we're not a contender and we're hanging around .500, KRod will net some quality depth from someone in the race. If you look at it that way, it really isn't a terrible deal. Anyone who says that this forecloses Ramirez, thereby foreclosing a contender season is crazy. I'll miss Saito though. I loved watching him pitch. He had great movement on those pitches.
  12. I stand by the 6/120 giving Prince an out after year two, similar to CC's deal with the Yanks. It gives Prince two years at a high salary with a good team and the opportunity to re-hit the market when he'll have more leverage (ie the big spenders will be looking for a DH). It makes sense to me, whereas going to a mediocre team for 170-200 wouldn't intrigue me much.
  13. I always liked Nathan, but this seems to be a lot for a guy on the tail end of a career. Not to mention, Nathan is one of the worst post-season performers around. Yes, he had a big part in getting the Twins to the playoffs, but he's been so shaky when the pressure is the highest. With that rotation and lineup, I'm confident he'll get another shot, but the guy has a WHIP of 2.375 and and ERA close to 9.00 in 4 post-season trips.
  14. As a Cook County resident, I was opposed to Cory initially, but he really grew on me and he really fed Uke well. I'll miss him, but won't have to field the 100 questions a year from my wife saying "Is this Uecker or the other guy? I can't tell."
  15. Svuem is also apparently in the mix for STL as well. I can't see that at all.
  16. I'd go for it and have him play RF. Move Hart to 1st and go spend $7mm/year on Barmes.
  17. Braun is not a Gold Glove outfielder, but he his far better than Holliday. Parra started fewer than 120 games in left, so I don't consider him an actual candidate. Maybe Braun is benefiting from terrible competition. While Braun's defense isn't awe inspiring, he knows his limits and rarely commits to a ball he can't play. SO, like the QB that doesn't take risks, his stats are better than his ability. He's not a liability yet isn't great. At the end though, he deserves it more than the other candidates
  18. That'd be awesome. I really think that they'll go away from 1982 as this team seems annoyed with all the references. Maybe 50 Cent?
  19. I already posted this in the Roll Call, but I'm betting on Henry Aaron. And, as I said there, my second guess is McClung.
  20. Sorry, now it is being updated. I'm hoping Aaron throws out the first pitch. He's the best Brewer ever in my mind. My second pick would be McClung for obvious reasons. http://bloximages.newyork1.vip.townnews.com/stltoday.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/9/9d/99d7f88f-3c4e-5dac-acb3-f73172bbe41c/4e38c1ec72b87.image.jpg
  21. Brewers.com still has it up as 3:05. Can we just make it 5:00?
  22. I'll be in RF bleachers, first row. Still confused on start time...Any news?
  23. I'm only able to watch the first couple innings tonight, which is crushing. I'm not sure I've missed an inning since before the Cubs series. I hope that by the time I have to leave they'll have a huge lead so that I know we'll be playing for the win when I see the team on Sunday... So nervous.
  24. Between Plush and Hairston, Melvin has seriously fleeced the Nats this year.
