  1. The real problem is that our budget is pretty much tapped out at this point. Melvin literally can't afford to go out giving bench players 2 year deals, even for $1.5 million per year. It's gonna have to be some guys that come cheaper on 1 year deals, a bunch of NRIs fighting it out and making minimum salaries, or go with some younger guys we already have.
  2. There's really nothing wrong with waiting it out. We have limited money available to fill out the bench, so why not wait and get some guys cheap? Doesn't mean they will be bad players. I don't have a problem with Melvin waiting to grab a few guys later on. He just doesn't have the money to spend on the top bench guys out there right now. Their prices will drop though if no one signs them.
  3. Lol, no. He split last year between Rookie and High A with Seattle. Guy's going nowhere.
  4. Yeah, I agree. I was just throwing it out there. I just think the RH 1B/OF is a good option. There's other guys out there. Not sure if any of them have signed but Gomes, Burrell, DeRosa, Michaels, Conor Jackson, maybe Ryan Ludwick. Not sure if any of them would be cheap enough for Doug to consider, but we'll see. I think a RH bat as an insurance platoon mate for Gamel is a good idea.
  5. Seeing as Gomez and Morgan have CF covered, I'd like to see our 5th OF just be a guy who can cover the corners and also possibly be a platoon option at 1B with Gamel. Xavier Nady would fit that bill perfectly. Then our platoon guy can be anyone who plays SS. I would think Doug wants to save money now, so Farris is an in house option. Green should get the other IF spot. Kottaras and Morgan/Gomez are givens.
  6. Why in the world did we give him $4.25 million when he made $2.5 million last year? He didn't deserve that big of a raise. And for those who say we should've gotten Barmes, he was off the table too soon. We were waiting out Reyes and Rollins at the time. If he was still out there I have no doubt he would've been signed over Gonzalez.
  7. His salary is projected to be $2.5 million, so we save minimal money in this deal. It was more just trading someone we didn't need for someone we did need.
  8. PNC Park is a terrible park for McGehee to hit in, which won't help him.
  9. McGehee was a great guy and a great story for awhile, but it was time to move on. He didn't serve much purpose on this roster once Ramirez was signed. Glad we got a nice arm for the pen in Veras for him.
  10. Based on Melvin's comments today, we won't be signing anyone except probably a utility IF and 5th OF for minimum, or close to minimum, salaries.
  11. Yeah, I'd for sure rather have Punto. Better fielder, more experience.
  12. No, absolutely not. I wouldn't be mad by any means. I'd be happy to pick up Pena. Gotta be the right price though. I don't think McGehee is a good platoon mate for him either, so we'd have to find someone else. I know there were a lot of people clamoring for Pena over Ramirez, having both would be sweet.
  13. Pena is a good player, and is proven. Gamel isn't. Nonetheless, I'd like to see at least one of our young guys get a shot, and right now that has to be Gamel. I think he could turn into a great player.
  14. I wonder if we'll non-tender McGehee or just trade him now? My guess is Doug will want something for him, so he'll trade him.
  15. Yeah, I don't think this means he'll request a trade. He's probably just unhappy with his agent. For all we know, he wants an extension and his previous representation wasn't getting it done for him.
  16. Eh. Probably won't help, but doesn't hurt.
  17. Love it! Really pumped about this! Our lineup will be really good if Braun doesn't get suspended. Good move Doug.
  18. I highly doubt McGehee will be non-tendered no matter what happens. If anything he'll be traded. Doug won't just let him walk and get nothing for him.
  19. Exactly, I don't see why Braun would have any affect on Ramirez signing or not. He's missing 50 games, and Ramirez would be signing for good money and probably 3 years. He's not gonna base his decision on the first 50 games of this season. He clearly wants to play in Milwaukee and stay close to home.
  20. Exactly, Braun has to be absolutely fuming right now that this got out. I would sue the crap out of anyone I thought let this leak if I were him. Assuming he is exonerated that is. Major mistake by whoever did that if that's the case. People will be getting fired.
  21. My opinion on this is that I'll hold my judgment until this is confirmed or denied. Honestly, I have no idea why anyone thought it was a good idea to let this out until the appeal process was over. Someone should be fired for that. This is far from official. The MLB won't even comment on it at all. I'm just sad for the Brewers and the game of baseball right now. I'd feel bad for Braun too if turns out that he's innocent. I'd be suing somebody for letting this out if that was the case.
  22. Yeah, our season is doomed if Braun is out. But you gotta think the Brewers have known about this as long as Braun has. They would've already been preparing if they saw it as an issue. I doubt anything like that happens. Until the trade deadline that is. If we are inevitably out of it, then Melvin will sell off some pieces.
  23. I'd take a bullpen arm for McGehee, or anything of use. I think he's pretty much useless at this point.
