  1. For anyone who wants Woodson, he'll probably do some events this offseason to promote his wine. When he was with Oakland he got into the wine business and has his own wine now. My dad and I, for $90 each last summer, got a five course meal with free wine samples plus all the autographs we wanted. Our event was at a country club in the Milwaukee area, but it sounded like he did some at other places too.
  2. This link is a good source for upcoming signings: http://www.signingshotlin...p?KW=Sport%20Memorabilia Signings Hotline allowed you to search by state as well as a lot of other criteria. There's a free version and a "deluxe" version. There aren't a lot of signings up there right now, but there have been in the past... not sure if they shifted more signings to only the "deluxe" search or what.... While I like this site and I've used it to get useful info before, it definitely doesn't catch every signing that's out there.
  3. Just for the record, there is a rewards system this year to reward students depending on the number of games you go to... It obviously isn't working though, and by the time I found out about it was a day before the first game I had in my half-season package... And it's not necessarily easy to unload your tickets to the bad games. Your two options are basically to post it on craigslist/facebook for $10 max and hope you get lucky, which after you factor in time to post, email, and meet the person almost isn't worth it, or sell it to a scalper - if they even want it - for maybe $5 (in which case it might not get used anyways). I think the arena would look a lot more empty for most non-conference games if it was all first come first serve. I picked up a lower level ticket from a scalper for $7 at 7:05ish on Monday, and he had a whole stack of tickets that he was going to be eating. I just thought the game on Monday was especially sad for the student section, with the lower level of it being half full, if that (taking into account the upper sections, probably only 1/4 of the student tickets got used).
  4. Has our student section been that sad for all our games so far? I went to my first Badgers home game last night and was shocked when I walked in after the game started to see that the first level was less than half full...
  5. I might be interested in seeing pics/prices as well, or at least knowing what the autographed items are
  6. I'm guessing there's something in the Code of Conduct about being "loud and unruly" (something like that if I remember right). If there's any type of general phrase like that, then you could easily argue that he's breaking it.
  7. Is the Prince gray just like the Braun?
  8. I shoulda put my writing in blue I guess...
  9. Wonder if it's any coincidence that Braun and Fielder are the two guys that never went to a block party....
  10. Another random question (I just want to make sure that this scenario is possible). I told my brother earlier this year that I'd like to see a cycle (haven't ever seen one in person), but not just any old cycle. I want a player on the home team (preferrably the Brewers) to have the 1B, 2B, and HR. They come up in the 9th or in extras with a tie game and at least one runner on base. They hit the home run, the guy on base scores to win the game, and the hitter stops at third instead of going home. (Could also happen when down by 1 with 2+ guys on, or down by 2 with the bags juiced). Anyways, if the home run hitter stopped after touching third, would he be credited with the triple he needs for the cycle? Or would it be recorded as a single, since it's not officially a home run?
  11. I'm pretty sure Gabe Kapler hit a walk-off dinger off the foul pole against that Nationals in 2008... I want to say it was a Sunday afternoon (August 10th I believe) The funny thing was that I didn't even know it went off the foul pole, because it was off the LF pole and I was sitting section 125? or so in the row of folding chairs way under the overhang. I couldn't see out and up enough to see that it was off the pole, I just remember praying that it stayed fair and going nuts when everyone else did.
  12. does it say anthing about whether you can use them for food/merchandise (as opposed to only tickets/parking)?
  13. Went to the Pfister on Saturday afternoon, only trying to get Strasburg. Most of the other guys who came out during the time I was there signed, but Strasburg made a conscious effort to look the other direction while his cab pulled up. Apparently Strasburg signed inside Miller Park before the game on Friday, but stopped after 4 autographs because a huge crowd formed instantly and he didn't like how people were leaning/pushing and not paying attention to the kids.
  14. Anyone know of a good place to get unsigned Packers 8x10s? I managed to get a few at Waukesha Sportscards, but they didn't have quite the variety I was hoping for. If anyone knows of somewhere, please let me know. Thanks.
  15. Actually, it looks like we somehow miss Suppan in our 4-gamer with the Cards next weekend. That really ticks me off. The one starter we don't see is Suppan? Instead, we get Hawksworth, Garcia, Carpenter, and Wainwright. Hopefully we catch one of those guys on a bad day.
  16. What is the right way to play the game of baseball? Oh wait, the Cardinals have already answered that one.
  17. Could you elaborate on this? I'm just wondering, it sounds kind of interesting what you did to get off. (edit: enlarged the font in quote --1992)
  18. Kind of a side point, but Hart may have fallen off the face of the earth, but then a few weeks ago he decided to crawl back up. (Hart's actually hit 17 HR on 50 hits this year. He must've talked to Russel Branyan.) Anyways, if Corey Hart can do that, Fielder certainly can dig out of his "slump" and get "good" again.
  19. The point in that article that stuck out to me the most was that 77 of 100 players said they didn't want instant replay on base calls. You could make the "small sample" argument because it's an average of just over 3 players/team that were surveyed. But the fact that such a majority of players don't want replay tells me that replay isn't the way to go. If the players, the most impacted parties, don't want it, then it's not a good idea.
  20. Nothing super rare on here necessarily, but, here's what comes to mind after thinking for a couple minutes: I saw Ryan Braun's second consecutive Fan Appreciation Night walk-off homer. It's ironic that his only two career walk-offs have come on 2008 and 2009 Fan Appreciation Night. I saw the triple play last year. I saw a walk-off walk against the Brewers last year down at Wrigley. I saw Corey Hart hit homers on 3 consecutive plate appearances a couple weeks ago. I saw Fielder's inside the park homer in 2008. I saw Derrek Lee's 300th homer the other night. I saw what was almost Tom Glavine's 300th win. I saw a bunch of the wins that were part of our big win streak vs the Pirates.
  21. better than "anywhere in the upper deck/sauna level on a warm day". At least you can have a breeze. At least this has been my limited experience with the Terrace level in the summer. I disagree... I like sitting in the terrace because I'm pretty much guaranteed shade until September. Plus I have gotten a breeze up there before. The only time I'd prefer to sit down the third base line from a staying cool perspective is for a night game when it's hot and muggy, or when the roof is closed but the panels are open, or something like that.
  22. I think it's not so much that as it is that they want to create opportunities for the more casual fans to be able to actually get halfway decent autographs. Like someone said they don't want the hard-core collectors getting all the good autographs. The whole goal of these block parties is definitely to create community interest, not to let autograph seekers go get autographs. That's why they made the Autograph Fridays for kids only, to make it more friendly to the casual fans with kids. I have a feeling that if people complain too much about this autograph setup at the block party, they'll cut back or eliminate the block party autographs. I alreayd noticed they said there'd be 8 player/coach spots at each block party (24 total at all three block parties), but there's about 30 players/coaches on the team. So I kind of have a feeling they won't be bringing Barun, Fielder, Gallardo, and a couple others as it is.
  23. 2 terrace tickets for the game this Saturday vs. the Rangers. Section 427 row 11 (behind home plate, slightly on the third base side so that you're basically looking straight down the right field foul line). Face is $15 per ticket, and I'm asking only $6 per ticket. Would prefer to meet at a game this week to make the exchange. Email at nabauman@wisc.edu if interested.
  24. Here's a list of things I'm looking to move because I have extras of them. I'm willing to part with the autographs but only if it's something that really interests me. The bobbleheads I'm looking to move for basically anything - I'm going to be giving them away to a friend if I can't trade them for anything I want/need. In return, I'm looking for some kind of autographs or bobbles. For bobbles, I need 2005 Carlos Lee, 2006 Hot Dog, and basically anything before 2005. I also need any minis (the kids-only ones) from before 2007. I'd also take Bucks bobbles from the past couple of years, as the only ones I have from the past two seasons are 08/09 Jefferson, 08/09 Redd, and 09/10 Jennings. Since I'm really looking to get rid of the bobbles, I'd be willing to make a trade that favors you. Email if interested at nabauman@wisc.edu. You can also ask for pictures if you want them. 25. I want to start by saying that I'm not against replay when it can be reasonably implemented. Like many have pointed out though, that's easier said than done. In response to this post, do you feel cheated and want your money back when the ball takes a funny "in-between" hop that one of our guys can't grab? Or when the wind is blowing strongly in and turns what would've been a home run into a fly out? The umpires are currently part of the game, like it or not, and no human being is perfect. It's part of the luck of the game whether any one close call does or doesn't go your way, just like in those other circumstances. I can understand being unhappy that your team lost on a tight call, but that wouldn't make me so angry that I'd want my money back, it's just bad luck. I'd be frustrated for sure, but no more so than I would be for a weird bounce of the ball or something like that. If anything, I'd get angry that we couldn't capitalize on one more opportunity to make that one call not even matter. While many may think the Brewers lost due to a terrible call, the terrible call will be one of many things that caused the Brewers to lose. It'd be the on-field performance that I paid to see that would make me want my money back, if anything. I don't oppose replays, I just completely disagree with the notion that it needs to be implemented so that people don't feel screwed by one call. Blaming one ump/call is a conveneint excuse people might use to make themselves feel better about the loss. It's blaming some outside force and not poor play that caused the loss. And also, while Jim Joyce obviously felt terrible, I think that in the long run he'll look back on this experience fondly. He'll realize that he basically did witness a perfect game, and while it was a very inconvenient time to make the wrong call, he'll remember Gallaraga's positive reaction and when Gallaraga brought him the lineup card the next day. I'm sure that means very much to him. After he gets over the initial agony of blowing the call, I would guess he'll have good memories of this time.
