  1. I really despise these (almost always online) discussions where entire cities get branded as dumps or worse words. I've been to 49 states, and basically every major metro besides a few, and they all have dumpy areas and really nice ones. I get the original comment was a joke, but I have a hard time calling downtown Milwaukee, with the revamped skyline, stunning art museum on the lakefront and McKinley Marina, a dump. Because it's not. And neither are a lot of the restaurants, the brand new state of the art arena, the nationally renowned sanctuary zoo, etc. Yes, if you venture into the ghetto which is probably larger than it should be, it's a dump. Just like every major American city. Obviously, Chicago is a great city, but it's always irritated me when people from WI trash Milwaukee. Referring to as a "top 5 dump" in the USA is asinine.
  2. If they came up and tore it up I'd obviously be happy about it. I'm not gonna buy the jersey of a guy like that or go around pretending he's a great guy, like so many fans do. I think it's severe delusion when a fan base suddenly defends a guy's character because he plays well, like Johnny Jolly or something. I'd enjoy watching him play well and end it there.
  3. That estimate is almost certainly comically high. I don't dispute people do it, but most people make the smart choice to have 1 or 2 or have a DD. As far as a DUI not being an indicator of a drinking problem, I can agree...once. After that, you've got a drinking problem. I do have friends with multiples and every one of them can't cut themselves off. The amount of people who drink alcohol, period, is exaggerated because drinkers tend to put it out there. Random fact, but while the USA has the highest ratio of binge drinkers, it also has the highest % of its population that doesn't consume alcohol at all - about 50% of its adults.
  4. Kind of a weird commentary. I think if given the choice, most people would prefer to cheer for a good citizen on their hometown team rather than a 3x drunk driver accused of sexual assault. I can look past one DUI or sketchy incident, but I'd personally rather not make a roster of 90s Dallas Cowboys.
  5. I take issue with "Rodgers is hurt so we're screwed anyway" because what if he is hurt for 4 games? That can be the difference in the playoffs or not, if you can win two of those games. What if he doesn't pass concussion protocol for Wild Card weekend? You need someone who can play at backup QB. Just someone average.
  6. I'm not ready to give up on him. It's getting there, but not just yet.
  7. Wow, I think you are making quite a reach there. I think at worst it was a click-bait title not written by the reporter. The rest of it was pretty compelling and didn't seem to be making an argument that Rodgers is washed up at all. It was that their offense has been predictable and boring for quite a while. The example of the playcall by LaFluer/McCarthy against Miami was pretty damning. I'm not super well-versed in Xs and Os but that first play seems extremely flawed by design. The entire team rolls with the fake toss and two guys streak down the field. Seems awfully vanilla. I'm not really sure how pointing out the numerous specific statistical declines in Rodgers' game is highlighting coincidences. I didn't interpret that as labeling him not good, it was reporting a fact that he hasn't been elite-level productive in a few years now.
  8. Are we sure Aaron Rodgers is still an elite QB?
  9. It wasn't a panic move. Aguilar was fairly useless at this point, and Stearns got a lotto ticket of sorts for a potential 2020 rotation arm. A back-end arm, but an arm nonetheless. I think that was a long-term play, and anything he added to the pen right now was a bit of a bonus. Unfortunately he added a negative. He is young, and has started before with a little bit of success. But we just don't know. Trades and FA could lead to a very different rotation where maybe Faria is the 4th or 5th guy next April. At worst it's another guy competing for a job who maybe helps them next season. I am guessing he would have liked to get a strong arm for this year, but recognized the market and adjusted as such. Faria may be awful for the Brewers, but I think that was the strategy, not panicking. Edit: Kinda mixed up the moves there and didn't notice you meant Dubon was a panic move. But I still don't think he's really one for panic moves.
  10. One of the silver linings of this season is that several guys who were sort of afterthoughts really pulled a lot of weight. Where would this team be without Thames, Chase Anderson and Matt Albers?
  11. There is a decent chance Faria is vying for a rotation spot in 2020.
  12. To be honest, I agree, that right now, 2020 is looking a lot like this year. I anticipate we'll have a bit better luck, but this roster has problems. I am hoping for a year similar to this one, maybe with fewer gut punch losses, but one we are competing in the division most of the year. But I am more excited for 2021. I'm hoping by then, some young guys have grown, Arcia is either something or off the team, and we've made enough to changes to take one more leap with Yelich + Braun money. If THAT season goes belly up, yes, I start dangling Yelich in July.
  13. I'm not optimistic on this guy yet. He obviously didn't work right and needed fixing, I doubt we got that done in 2 weeks. We are desperate, we are now throwing anything against the wall in hoping that it sticks. Not the way to be in a pennant chase, but it's what we are. You're not wrong, but no real choices here.
  14. Didn’t address anything that I brought up, just talked in generalities. One player no matter how good, can’t win you a World Series. Yes I did. You just said that Stearns hands are tied and that he can't do anything to win with Yelich. Which is of course nonsense, but that's par for the course.
  15. And Fielder was a guy they could have traded, but didn't, knowing they were going to lose him. Instead they went for it while having both Braun and Fielder. That is what you attempt with Yelich. I'm sorry, but I can't believe that is even being entertained here. If we're trading 27 y/o guys with OPS over 1.100 with three years of team control on modest contracts, what's the point of anything? We might as well move them to Vegas. There is no possible way you get value by trading Yelich now. Nobody would pay what it takes. Two years from now, I listen. Today he is off limits.
  16. You do not the trade the best hitter in baseball, making an average of about $13m for the next two years, when he is not a FA until 2023. Your premise of "too many holes to fix" doesn't make a lick of sense. You don't fill any holes by trading Yelich. You get some prospects who might possibly be good and 99% probably never as good as he is, and you create one new hole the size of Manhattan. I get that it's been a frustrating year, but that is a new level of absurdity. His recent production makes him the best player to ever don a Brewers uniform. Your strategy is panicking about two years before you have to. As far as what can Stearns do, he can wait for Braun to come off the books and still have Christian Yelich. That is the best play.
  17. Worst Stearns acquisition ever?
  18. If Shaw weren't hitting .155 that wouldn't be THAT bad to me. Pina would be pretty average with regular PT imo. Thames is fine, is what he is. Arcia stinks, though I still have misguided hope he'll come around.
  19. It's a ridiculous suggestion that would only be brought up by the same 3 guys over and over. However, if we're half-way through 2021 and sitting 39-44, I think it's something you have to do at that point. Your options are another Ryan Braun situation or capitalizing on what is probably the last bit of prime talent to get something back in return. I hate thinking about it, but if the team is not built to compete immediately I can't see them keeping him. Also, Yelich has been generational for the last two years. I wouldn't expect any prospect to be as good as he has been.
  20. If that's Shaw's reality, he can go.
  21. Going 8/11 or whatever in the preseason really means nothing to me. Hundley was a preseason hero and someone we were supposed to trade to start somewhere for a draft pick. I'm with you, and again, I think Kizer is going to get cut. He was McCarthy's little project and this staff has no emotional connection to him. I don't know that Boyle is any good either, but I can't see them keeping two backup QBs active when both are just guys and everyone knows if Rodgers gets hurt they're toast anyway. If QB2 was actually a guy with real experience then maybe, but I will be pretty surprised if both are kept.
  22. And Turnbow and the majority of relievers. Too early to give up on Hader's career but his pedigree is such that many would still kill to have him and coach him up if this ends up a prolonged issue. In any case, THIS seems truly insurmountable. Not like the other seven things, but this one really feels that way. Without him throwing well there is just not close to enough talent on that staff.
