  1. Ex Slinger. $25 was as high as I wanted to go. I ended up watching far fewer games than I anticipated I would anyway. If they were having a gangbusters year I probably would have watched more, but tbh, even though I had Sling, I wound up just using Reddit on my laptop about the same amount of time. The feed wasn't as delayed sometimes I wanted the other team's feed just for fun...but MLB At Bat was telling me what happened like a full two minutes before Sling. I thought I would really prefer the easy access to Sling on the TV but I just rarely sat down and committed to it. I've had a difficult (re: impossible) time getting people to use my 20 pack. Last year I was fending people off and this year nobody really cares. Anything $25+ just seems like poor value. My wife probably misses it more due to the HGTV and food stuff.
  2. If they were to win tonight with a Cubs loss they'd be closer to first place than they were last year at this time. They fell 6 games back of first on 8/28. 3.5 back as late as 9/18. That was a historic finish, but as average as this team has looked and how average this field is, this thing definitely isn't over.
  3. Not really seeing that as bringing politics in. It's just a fact, that president today and the president in 1999 were both mired in sexual scandals in which the women weren't believed at the start. Seemed pretty civil other than you going off the rails for some odd reason. Both were very high profile and the latter is arguably the most front-and-center example in history.
  4. It would be more surprising if he didn't get the 50/30 IMO.
  5. There was no evidence of a crime. None. 10 years ago this doesn't even get charges. But whoever posted above is right, the school has no choice, and the DA basically has to try with a high-profile suspect. Because the worst case scenario is that it goes to trial and the state loses. The questions the state asked when he took the stand were outrageous.
  6. Yelich has no chance. He is assured of finishing 2nd place. At this point it doesn't matter if the Brewers get a Wild Card the MVP is not coming off this team when Bellinger's team is winning 100+. He would have had to just CLEARLY dominated Bellinger to win it again. I'm talking beat him in homers by 15 and hit 40 points higher. Any benefit of the doubt is going to Bellinger.
  7. IMO they played the deadline right. It's one of few things they did right this year. The team isn't good enough where adding a real piece seals up the cracks. And it might still be good enough next year to compete with some changes. It was not the year to trade anything substantial in July. I think those that regret they didn't sell are really exaggerating what they'd get for Moose and Grandal. Nobody has wanted Moose in FA for years. This year probably won't be different. He may get signed, but it's not going to be some monster contract. The contenders basically all have catchers. They had a shot to make the playoffs and that was probably their best play, to just sit still and hope things turned out ok. They would've been creating another hole just to fill some other one. There are injuries and regression and things and some really bad decisions like DJ and Miley, but I don't fault the decision to really do nothing at the deadline. I mean, who knows. Faria may be in the rotation next year. I think there was a price Stearns was going to ship Moose/Grandal for and it probably never even got close.
  8. Again I don't think guys quit consciously. They don't go out there and give up ABs and say "I'm going to swing and miss on purpose." But you can get sloppy in your preparation and let bad habits slip into your routines. Maybe BP feels less important, maybe you tie a few more often the night before, running out that grounder doesn't feel as important, etc. I definitely think those things happen even at the highest levels of sport. There are guys on record in any sport saying that sorts of things can happen in a locker room. IDK that the Brewers are there though.
  9. Time just absolutely zips by as I age. Granted I don't hang on offseason news like I used to. But I cannot believe there's a preseason game this week. I'd rather watch paint dry, but the summer almost felt nonexistent. Anyway I'm excited about the defense. I'm not expecting more than 9 wins but who knows, could get something special if the defense is the real deal. The NFL allows for those rapid transitions. I'm just hoping for a break from taking the first month of the season off. I was really getting tired of that under McCarthy. I was also pretty happy when I caught a soudbite of LaFleuer talking about guys dogging it in practice and how it irks him. He doesn't want to do conditioning after practice, and feels like practice should be strenuous enough to serve as conditioning. McCarthy coached soft practices and we had soft teams. I would love to see that killed.
  10. I don't think they outright quit, it's just that when you're down 5-0 and floating around .500 for a year, and you've seen multiple big timers get hurt, it gets really easy on a day-to-day basis to be thinking about a hot shower and video games in the 7th inning by the time August rolls around.
  11. Setback year. Stearns has a plan. He was always aiming for a sustainably competitive team. It's always possible he felt there would be regression this year and rolled the dice as such. Things can look great or bleak and turn around fast. We saw it the good way in 2017 and the bad way in 2019. He'll make some moves and continue trying to be inventive. We're not going to be successful trying to play the free agency game.
  12. Because that ship has sailed in today's climate. If they do that and he's found guilty they have to answer a bunch of unreasonable questions. You have to burn people at the stake at the first hint of potential guilt. Case was a joke and I don't follow the Badgers. Glad justice prevailed but it is too late for his name which is already smeared forever.
  13. This makes zero sense. He's been the GM for like three years made it to Game 7 of the NLCS. Giving a pass on his first season, they'll probably have a winning record all three years and missed the playoffs by a game in his second. The strategy you're suggesting is basically what they did in their two "go for it" years with Melvin and basically had the same success one season. That's not a very strong argument that his strategy isn't working. In fact, I would say that it is, because with this staff you'd think this team is far worse than it really is. But they had so many problems, the pen falling apart and some black holes on offense, that all of it together just became insurmountable.
  14. I think the mediocrity of this team is far beyond its fortunes turning on sending Hiura down when they shouldn't have.
  15. Bottom line is that Santana is literally the worst defensive player in the majors. The fact that he's a .9 WAR with 21 bombs and a 800 OPS tells you a lot.
  16. Remember when Jeffress's agent was on the forum scoffing at the proposed extensions a couple posters wanted to give him in hypotheticals after last season? Pepperidge Farm does.
  17. Most of that is accounted for with a few blowouts. We had the worst run differential of playoff teams last year, and we were almost in the World Series. Last year we lost by 3-4, but won by 1-2. Same thing this year I knew this was wrong, so I checked. Better than the Braves & Rockies. But my real reason for checking was to see what the actual # was. It was +105. Last year's team was far better than this year's. Which is kind of what I expected in the spring. I was hoping for someone to have a Mileyesque season to help the starting staff but it didn't happen. It was +50 on August 2. It wasn't proportional to their record all year because the pen was so good. They picked up a lot of ground at the end in that stat. So it was worse than the Cardinals is right now. Also, nobody thinks this team as good as last year's. That kinda goes without saying. But the negative RD meaning they're not a playoff team just isn't a very good barometer. There's a chance both Wild Cards have one. There's a chance a division winner has one. Colorado was in the negative as well on 8/2. It's not really a great situational stat.
  18. I'm honestly not all that worried about the future. Stuff happens in the offseason and some guys will have better 2020s. Probably somewhere between this year and last year. They'll continue trying to find new ways to be competitive. A couple years ago we had a "top farm system" and now it's a stinker. This stuff changes fast. For now I just hope they get lucky and make the playoffs.
  19. This series is a must-win, until we go 1-2 and the Cardinals get swept and we continue the NLC season of mediocrity in which the must-win situations perpetually get kicked into next week because everyone sucks.
  20. RD wasn't great at all last year either, especially not until the very end of the season. It was far below other teams with similar records and 100+ behind LAD who won fewer games. STL is +26, about 40 runs behind the Cubs. Philly is about right where we are and the Giants are worse. It's probably about 50/50 that one of the WCs has a negative RD, so, that doesn't seem like a qualifier this year. I'm not saying they're a great team but the entire field is rather unimpressive.
  21. They're still in it because everybody sucks. But in a vacuum, this is last year's team with a terrible bullpen. If they had a lead after 5 innings the game was basically over. If they were within a couple runs after 5 they needed to get a couple and they'd probably win. This year it's 50/50 and the record is about the same. The "It's baseball, anything can happen," mantra is really hard to get into with this team. It's not like they have a young Adam Wainwright and some up-and-coming but stud pitchers and if they get into a groove they can win...there is just a seriously lack of talent. If they start scoring 8 runs a game, yeah, maybe.
  22. Knebel was a devastating injury. They're not winning 96 with him or anything, but it changed the whole complexion of this team. Imagine if you had him just to spell Hader sometimes or if you just stuck him out there as a traditional closer. I don't know what his WAR would've been but I truly believe there are a handful or so of games this year where he could've turned the tide.
  23. I think the fact that he is 30 years old has much more to do with it than his height. I don't really know what you're arguing though. When you are deep where you are young it's the norm to let old guys walk. Also, I didn't pull the prototype thing out of the air. The article has been posted a couple times here, but I think this was pretty prophetic. https://www.packersnews.com/story/sports/nfl/packers/2019/04/29/silverstein-why-mike-daniels-no-longer-right-fit-packers/3580870002/ But I really don't get what you're going for. They decided he wasn't a part of the future. I think money was a factor, but I don't think it was THE factor and not even really the driving force. I guess to me to it was kind of like inheriting a nice truck and getting rid of it. It's a nice truck, but I have to back around it every morning with my Civic and it's just kind of there. I don't really have a use for it and I don't want to pay the insurance.
