  1. Another bump that Spectrum is offering Internet for $15 a month. I had it installed and it is getting speeds of about 30 mbps down and 5-6 up. It's totally adequate for browsing, streaming video, etc. It is a targeted offer, only certain zip codes and sections get it, however contrary to popular belief, eligibility is NOT dictated by income, age, etc. I believe those constraints can GET you qualified for the offer but if your area is zoned for the promo you can get it, as I have and don't fit any of the guidelines. It is also not a promotional price, it is indefinite, until the price of that base package increases a few dollars, etc. Pretty stoked about it though, incredible deal.
  2. Probably the fact that Murphy is the authority on fires and hires and that the QB is at least an influencer in some of the organizational decisions. I don't believe Rodgers is pulling strings but where there is smoke there's fire. At its best, the structure they have going is weird, and its worst it's a significant problem.
  3. His career pivoted when Nick Collins broke his neck. The defense fell apart after that. I nearly come to tears whenever I think of "what could have been" if Collins was never injured during the first game of 2011. Agreed. Another thing that I sorta feel has become part of Packers lore as time passes. Very good player and a major loss, absolutely. But he was definitely from the mold of Darren Sharper in that he was willing to miss to make a big play. He was good at it, so it worked. But there were a few reasons that defense fell apart. Woodson was getting less effective and banged up more often, Morgan Burnett never really flourished, and when they let Cullen Jenkins walk after the Super Bowl it had a devastating effect on the defense. There were a lot of things going on and over time it's sort of become isolated to just Collins getting hurt. But I'm not saying it wasn't significant. I actually went to high school with a guy still in the league who I won't name. I ran into him after the 2011 on the street in MKE and we started talking about his career and he actually said to me "We watched a lot of tape on the Packers and they weren't the same secondary without him on the field."
  4. His career pivoted when Nick Collins broke his neck. The defense fell apart after that. I nearly come to tears whenever I think of "what could have been" if Collins was never injured during the first game of 2011. Agreed. I don't really agree with either of these. I used to say the thing about the Seattle game, but they were back in the NFCCG 2 seasons later in the 'run the table' season. That is a major accomplishment and that we just sort of "meh" it speaks to how successful the team has been. Rodgers pulling out rabbits from his hat, sure, but he was the coach, so I think he gets some of the credit. I saw a graphic the other day that had McCarthy on it and a caption that said "Only 5 playoff wins since Super Bowl." Sort of made me chuckle. Five playoff wins sounds like a fair amount. I also have always disliked talking about playoff records as every season without a title ends in a loss. It's kinda dumb. If you make the divisional and lose you're a ".500 coach". This is all to say I think McCarthy is a fine coach. A bunch of these teams were 10-6. Is it his fault? Sure, that's an argument. But year after year this was an offensive powerhouse with a sieve on the other side of the field. I think most of the time it was an average team with Aaron Rodgers.
  5. Context matters. If a coach is often running the last team to qualify for the playoffs then it would be likely that they would have a poorer record. If you could normalize the results against expected results you could get a better idea. The packers being 1/2 seed and losing multiple home games in the conference championship doesn't look good. Personally without looking at the numbers, but knowing the Packers position and talent (HOF quarterback for his playoff stretch) plus the debacle in Seattle I would say that his record is below what it should be for playoffs. Especially as he was started out 3-0 and had arguably better teams 2 years after the SB win... He didn't start out 3-0. He went 1-1 in 2007 and 0-1 in 2009. Both of those seasons were considered massive overachievements. Super Bowl win also got him four Ws, not three.
  6. Yeah Driver was never elite. He was a model of consistency and a professional but he was never a top flight WR. Jennings and Nelson were the horses on that squad by the end of the season. Jones was getting his too. Driver was an ideal WR2.
  7. That's how I feel homer. I've always basically agree with TT that you aquire BPAs wherever you can, but the Packers simply don't need an electric franchise WR. They already have one. Rodgers is too good to need to load him up with a Madden team. I do feel they need a player of that level, but I'm inclined to think they need either an absolute shut down player in the secondary or a stud rushing off the edge. WR just isn't at that level.
  8. Of course Brown is better than Tate, but these moves aren't apples to oranges, they're always about incremental value. The case being that Adams + Tate is good, and is Adams + Brown that much better to justify the cost? I'm inclined to think that it isn't. Jennings + old Driver + developing Jordy was also a championship offense. You really don't need two guys on that elite level.
  9. That 1996 Packers team had checks and balances in place. It was absolutely loaded with guys that would have put a malcontent squarely in his place. Sean Jones, Reggie White, LeRoy Butler...this team has absolutely nothing like that right now.
  10. IMO Pina is an ideal backup C. The likelihood of one getting hurt is fairly high, and when Grandal needs a break Pina is very nice to have off the bench. That tandem is the sort of luxury you won't have long-term but one I absolutely love to have and would pay for in a "go for it" year.
  11. Andre Rison has sort of been overstated by Packers fans over the years. He was a desperate late-season acquisition after injuries to Brooks, Freeman and Chmura and I believe Jackson as well. He caught 13 passes that year. He did have the signature play in the Super Bowl, but nostalgia has made that a bigger move than it really was. By the time they got most of their bodies back he was basically a role player and he walked that offseason. This isn't that at all, you'd be bringing Brown in to be a cornerstone. If they did not have Adams, I'd be more inclined, but at a position where you already have a rising star who IMO is top 5 at his position, you don't get the same incremental value adding Brown. If you want a name that intrigues me, Golden Tate. I can't stand him, but I think he would fit with them well and fill a void.
  12. Hard pass. Fans fall in love with guys like this any time they hit the open market. The type of turmoil GB just went through this past season does not lend itself to a guy like this. All the youth and development does not need this guy around. The "Don't touch me, I'm the franchise" story is everything I needed to hear to pass on Antonio Brown. He will end up in Washington or some other crap hole and fade into nothingness, oblivious to how good he had things in Pitt.
  13. I'd have said no way a year ago, but considering that Moose reportedly is looking at contract to stick around, who knows? I'd think the Brewers would have a lot of interest if the terms stay relatively short. Moustakas needs a new agent. Someone with their pulse on the business should not be giving him such bad advice.
  14. I don't want him. I'd take him, but the one-year contract makes me think just about anything we give up that they deem acceptable is too much. The one year is the deal killer for me.
  15. I just get the sense they are right on the cusp of breaking through. Rodgers injury two years ago gave people a bit of an excuse, but there are a lot of players on this roster that have now been developing for two years. The manner in which they lost a bunch of games makes me feel they're really close, but a lot of fans just see losses and assume they're really far away. I just don't get that feeling at all. Sort of like when Favre called them the "most talented team" he's played on a year before they went 13-3 and everybody laughed.
  16. I don't really have any feel for what they'll do personnel-wise. Everyone's gut instinct is a pass rusher, but they had 44 sacks, and some younger guys there who should only get better. Obviously, they'd benefit a lot from adding a proven guy there. They probably also need a veteran WR. Those are two that stand out to me. I think even with a minimally changed roster the right coach can get this group to close that gap where they just couldn't finish games. Rodgers needs to get right, but I think that's going to happen and really why I think they'll have a bounce-back season. I heard a rumor yesterday that Rodgers had surgery on something after the season as well. This season reminded me of '08 a lot and think next year will be a lot like '09. Nobody really took them seriously coming off a 6-10 season but they took a big step and got to 11-5.
  17. I think McDaniels would have brought a big-time spotlight to the Rodgers-coach dynamic and the Packers generally don't like those kinds of tabloid stories. If they weren't immediately successful it would have been an exhausting carousel of coverage. I doubt that was a big factor in the decision, but just one more thing that tipped the scales against him. I think the Packers will be back in the playoffs next season.
  18. Like it a lot. He has a great reputation around the league.
  19. A very Bucks thing to do would be draw Miami in the 1st round and lose again.
  20. With Cobb missing as much time as he did and Jordy Nelson gone (not that he should have been retained) the Packers WRs were noticeably bad at coming back to the ball on broken routes when Rodgers would do his dancing around. It was something I watched for every week and saw as a problem routinely. Even Adams doesn't really do it, as he's more dependent on beating guys with a first move and placing himself perfectly where the ball is going. Allison has learned it, which is why I think Rodgers likes him, but he was hurt most of the year too. The younger guys just never got it. It was one thing that Kumerow did better than almost anybody they had this year. Cobb has made a career out of doing it.
  21. I'm not sure how that's condescending. In fact, the "That's impossible" comment comes off as a lot more condescending, imo.
  22. Replay needs to go. I've been saying this for years and I know it's a minority opinion because we're obsessed with it getting it "right." The problem is, they aren't, there is more gray area than we imagined, and we've become so obsessed with it being right we're seemingly making up rules as we go. But most importantly, it has obliterated the watchability of football. It was better with blatant blown calls because the games actually had climactic moments instead of every borderline call going before the Supreme Court. Multiple moments in both games where they went to review and I'm just screaming inside "JUST PLAY THE GAME." I can't stand watching it. It happens like every 5 minutes of game action.
  23. I had a feeling the playoffs would be good due to none of these teams being really overwhelming. Dallas still intrigues me. An Eagles-Cowboys NFCCG sort of seems destined. That Rams defense is not good. The Saints are good, but Dallas did shut them down once. I hope the Chargers make it out of the AFC. I don't mind the Pats, but something new would be nice. It'd be cool to see Rivers finally get the best of them during this late-career resurgence.
  24. Impossible. Any Packer fan around will tell you that the O-Line is garbage. Interesting stat: 45 out of the 53 times Rodgers was sacked this year, the sack happened later than 2.5 seconds after the snap. PFF grades Rodgers 89.9, the highest player on the Packers offense. You're all about PFF when it boots the o-line while their highest graded offensive player is the heart of the problems on offense. Interesting.
