  1. American Family presents Bud Selig Park sponsored by Kohl's has a nice ring to it.
  2. Heading to Hawaii Saturday morning. Actually on a whale watch boat the day the high is -11 here, lol.
  3. Kinda feel like bobbles are the new team announcers; pretty much nobody likes them no matter what they do. I 100% agree with everyone that bobble overkill has been the problem for about a decade, but the JS ran a story awhile ago that the bobbles boost attendance big time, so they are here to stay. As much as I'd love to see Fernando Vina in the 90s uni, I don't think their target demo would really care. I still have fun getting them no matter how lame they are.
  4. 50/15 would seem like a pretty good deal. The exposure value of the naming rights was recently estimated at $2.76 million and Miller was paying $2.02 million or something. So getting $3.33 in the short term is a nice little overpay to compensate for the devaluation down the road. So if that is the figure it sounds pretty fair.
  5. Exactly. Even if it's the speculated $50 million over 15 years at best that's an arbitration payment for one Hernan Perez type player per season. Not going to have a huge impact. It's better than not having $50 million over that time but it is what it is. More likely it will go into a maintenance fund for the stadium or facilities or something like that. That said, I'm ok with the name change, Miller Park was kind of perfect but life goes on and as many have said, a lot of people will still call it Miller Park anyway. It's more money. It doesn't have to go to salaries to help them put a better team together.
  6. There's going to be a Billy Joel bobble theme night in April
  7. I am slightly curious if it means anything for their long time partnership with West Bend Mutual
  8. Agreed A bit like saying vacation is overrated and overpriced. There is a pretty massive variety to choose from there.
  9. I guess I don't differentiate Miller from any other bloated corporation, so I couldn't care any less if Kohl's/Northwestern Mutual/Harley slap their name on the place.
  10. I think it probably has more to do with the baseball purists dying off than him being the best player of all time.
  11. I find it all kind of funny. I couldn't care less, and Miller/Bud/Coors are all trash mass produced "beers," so the "integrity" of it all is funny to me. It's not like it was Spotted Cow Field and they shunned some local little man brewery.
  12. How would the 5 counties dictate the name? That's how you end up with Stady McStadium Face as the official name. The Brewers do a lot for the 5 counties and have an extremely affordable and generous game day experience. They likely live and die on agreements like this being in such a small city. I couldn't care less if it's Hooters Stadium if that is the highest bid.
  13. I like it solely because it increases the odds the primary logo is back to the ball and glove, from which it never should have changed. It is arguably the best logo in sports and never should have been changed.
  14. I don't know how the Packers will be, but I couldn't care less about where an OC ranked with some other team. There are so many variables that go into that, it's just a total waste of time getting worked up over. You can't tell anything from that.
  15. Essentially all of the large chains and online banks are offering 2% now, just must of them require a minimum balance or monthly deposit or some other stipulation. I had been getting 1.05% for years but just clicked two boxes and moved it to 2+% with CIT (not Citi). Savings accounts are still pretty lame for anything other than emergency funds or someone actively saving for a down payment or something, but why use .05% when you can get 2%? It's easy enough.
  16. I think you should cool it a little. The idea that developing the land around the stadium distracted him from the on-field product is revisionist and silly. They announced those plans in 2015, which means they were likely in development in 2012-13. This is simply a case of people grasping at low-hanging fruit. We've seen it from every angle this year, from Rodgers body language to the ski hill to the F.O. structure. This is all stuff nobody would bother pointing out if they won more games. The Titletown District is an extremely necessary modernization of the area and franchise. It is a good project whether they won 3 or 13 games. I guess I just expect the occasional stinker as part of the life cycle of being anyone other than the Patriots, but that is a really hard pill for people to swallow with a team has been as good as the Packers. I even think their own diagnosis of "complacency" is dishonest. They weren't complacent, Aaron Rodgers just led them to believe they were doing a better job with the roster than they were. Why would anyone working for the team think TT wasn't doing a good job when they're playing in the NFCCG?
  17. Yeah, I don't think you'd hear anything about TD being dumb if they were winning a bunch of games. It's just low-hanging fruit. "You should spend your time on X instead of a skihill!" It's kinda dumb. It's like the reaction when Obama fills out an NCAA bracket and he shouldn't do that because X is still a problem. Titledown District is a must-have in pro sports today. You can't just be a famous stadium. It's simply not enough anymore. That's a kinda dumb comparison. Filling out an NCAA bracket takes 5 minutes. Focusing on an entertainment district is a full time job. No it isn't. It's the same stupid thought. He can be involved with developing a stadium district and getting a better team on the field. They have nothing to do with each other.
  18. I remember the days of a lot of their games being on UPN24 or something. It wasn't cable, whatever it was. I remember being about 10 and being really upset when the Brewers pre-empted the Simpsons re-runs, haha. I liked baseball but they were usually about 35 games under .500 by then.
  19. Thanks, I do remember that now. Don't take offense to my lack of recollection previously, that's just my seeming increasingly short memory these days. I think the media struggles to understand what Green Bay is as an organization, and fails to understand the things they need to do to be successful that other organizations in the NFL do not. If there's criticism about the Titletown District, is there also retroactive criticism about the Lambeau Field Atrium levelled at Bob Harlan? Of course not, because it's one of the better financial decisions the team has made. When the district is done, I think the results will be looked at similarly. That said, isn't that what the President of the team should be focusing the bulk of his time on? If anything, doesn't this seem like a 'want it both ways' arguement? Most don't want Murphy involved in stuff like hiring the coach, but then stuff like this says that he should be focusing more of his time on the football aspect of the organization, rather than the financial side.... isn't that incredibly contradictory? Yeah, I don't think you'd hear anything about TD being dumb if they were winning a bunch of games. It's just low-hanging fruit. "You should spend your time on X instead of a skihill!" It's kinda dumb. It's like the reaction when Obama fills out an NCAA bracket and he shouldn't do that because X is still a problem. Titledown District is a must-have in pro sports today. You can't just be a famous stadium. It's simply not enough anymore.
  20. Family guy can't age because there is no substance to it. I'm not saying it's never funny, I've laughed hysterically at many of their scenes, but all they're really doing is conjuring up random funny stuff. They constantly insert daydreams and "remember the time" scenes in the middle of episodes. It's actually an ingenious formula in that it makes the need to create new relevant material much less demanding.
  21. HaHa was part of the defense this year...Randall? Yeah, I can't get behind him making any kind of substantial difference. This sounds just like grasping at straws. I don't see either of those two really making a lick of difference. There was not a chance HaHa was coming back anyway. Getting a 4th for a player with one foot out the door was one of the biggest wins of this season IMO. HaHa was as good as gone. I guess my only criticism of Randall would be that Kizer is terrible, but I don't think he was part of the long term solution anyway. I'm just not really torn up losing either guy. The team's problem this year was the offense anyway. The defense wasn't great but it was decimated by injuries and I think anyone can agree it's trending up. The offense was inexcusable for a team led by Rodgers.
  22. I am very eager for you to elaborate on what you mean by this? I think there is too much emphasis on profits and not enough focus on winning. I brought this up a few months ago, I think you disagreed, so won't go into the stadium expansion and Titetown District again but there was an article on si.com a few weeks ago that I didn't think reflected too well on the organization. I had thought dumping Randall and Ha Ha were on MM but apparently the team does not like "loud" players and the debacle with Marteles Bennet was brought up as well. The front office was described as only caring about the brand and the VP's and doesn't care about the players. Certainly the desire to draft "Packer People" has been brought up a lot, that needs to change IMO, can't take quality players off the board because they don't fit some corporate culture. Someone in the other thread brought up that TT would have never drafted Alexander so maybe it has changed some now. I found the article for anyone who hasn't seen it, long but interesting read: https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/11/29/green-bay-packers-problems-aaron-rodgers-mike-mccarthy-ted-thompson Sorry, I'm not taking any of this seriously. HHCD and Randall weren't good players. HHCD thought he was the best safety in the NFL and became discontent over no contract extension. The Packers people thing is a bunch of baloney. They have signed several terrible human beings because they were cheap and filled voids. If HHCD were picking off 10 passes a year he'd have been extended two seasons ago. I'm not even following the logic here...they've shown more than a willingness to have loud guys on the team. The argument doesn't make any sense. Both Bennett brothers are scum bags, so they can pound sound and I'm ok with it. Not a chance in hell he'd be signed in the first place if they were that concerned with a brand.
  23. I think nearly all pro athletes have sizable egos and a ton of pride. I think some of Murphy's bubbled to the surface when he knew people were questioning why he should be involved in football decisions. He thinks he knows a lot about football and that his input is valued. But Bob Harlan would never got on a mic and explain why his opinion matters. That kind of insecurity is a player-turned-executive as opposed to a career exec that wouldn't even justify the question with a response.
  24. The structure was made last year, but Murphy listing his resume in front of the media happened this year after firing MM, and was at the very least, strange
  25. Well, BK referred to it as weird or some similar term last year, and that it's not what he was expecting. I assumed it was just a temp thing until they fired McCarthy, but appears that isn't the case. Murphy does seem to have an ego or at the very least supreme confidence in his skills. Maybe he should, we'll never know I guess. But it does seem to be walking a fine line toward "No Brian, you're going to trade for Antonio Brown because I want him. One winning season and nobody will care about their structure though. All of this stuff comes out of the woodwork when you lose a few games. Suddenly Rodgers and McCarthy have to be hunting buddies or they can't work together, the corner of Rodgers mouth isn't at the right angle when he laughs.
