  1. I'd give him CM3's money since hes coming off the books. Get 5-6 years younger with a possibly better in his prime player? Those types don't grow on trees let alone come available often. That’s tempting, I know. If it were 2 FRPs for a prime player on a value contract, absolutely. If it were just a matter of signing him as a FA, no question. It’s both that trouble me. Plus, Clay makes north of $10 million. I believe Mack will command closer to $20 million per season. I wouldn't give up two firsts, but I would consider giving up one. The real obstacle IMO is that there's no point to doing it unless you get him to agree to a contract, obviously. And you're right about that contract, it's not going to be a $10mm situation, it's going to be a highest-paid defensive player type deal. I'm not sure if you want that much tied up in two guys with Rodgers's deal on the horizon. It makes sense to pay QBs that much. It makes less sense to pay pass rushers that much as their years of effectiveness are fewer and consistency much more of a risk.
  2. Packers are the meaningless Vegas favorite to get Mack. We have two first rounders, too.
  3. Cubs board I frequent is calling for a ban on defensive shifts.
  4. I feel like we're always worrying about the revolving door somewhere on the OL and it always turns out ok. Does anyone really think Bulaga won't get hurt? This is like any other year to me. The defense has to be average and if it is we have a good chance. But it hasn't been that way for an eternity and we're a 10-win team ceiling if that's the case again.
  5. Something I hadn't really thought about but we're 30-32 since going 37-22. So we've been a .500 team for a really long time now. It looks like we're going to end up somewhere close to where I thought. I think I said 88 wins but don't recall exactly, and that we'd fight for a WC all year but miss it in the end.
  6. The Packers don't need more receivers. I don't want a veteran taking away reps from the many young athletes that will turn out just fine. I wanted them to cut Cobb as I think he's a low ceiling waste of space at this point who isn't big and isn't fast. Adams is your clear cut star. As I said earlier I really have my eyes on Geronimo this season. In a very small sample when he plays with Rodgers, he gets thrown to a LOT. And Rodgers has continued to praise him this camp. He had a big playoff game in Dallas two years ago as well as a big game in Cincinnati last season. He was also having a nice game in Rodgers return game in Carolina last season before the fatal fumble late. Rodgers seems to like him for whatever reason. My bold prediction is that he's a 1,000 yard guy this year. Some of those young guys will be cut but with Graham in the mix they'll be just fine. The only thing that matters for this team is Rodgers staying healthy and the defense being average. We won't know a thing about the latter until real games start.
  7. I'm still telling myself it's all part of a master plan for frequent use down the stretch. Limit his innings all early, stay in contention and then throw his arm off in September.
  8. Hader throws 2 innings every five days so him being fresh shouldn't be an excuse if he falters more.
  9. We're going to blow this in the last week. Not really blow, since you can't really blow with a one game lead. But I fully anticipate disaster in September and us missing the WC.
  10. What an absolute melt down. Miller Park is definitely in their heads. They can't wait to get out of here.
  11. If something finds the gap here Kratz isn't scoring. Probably moot, but he should not be on the bases.
  12. A Game 7 of the WS on Halloween night. Cool.
  13. Ryan Braun is still immensely popular in WI for whatever reason. My kids adore him and he is by far their favorite player even when I try to get them on somebody else. When I see their friends or notice kids in the gift shop, Braun is still a dominant figure for them. Nobody is taking him anyway. And by modern pro sports standards, the situation isn't really that bad because we don't really have to worry about retaining anybody until Braun's out. 2018 is the worst year in the contract, after next year it really falls off. If (I don't expect this but we can hope) he returns to an .800 OPS next season or the year after, $15mm isn't really that bad for a veteran of that lore and stature. This is one we have to bite the bullet on and just manage him in a way that maybe, hopefully, gives us something. FWIW, he's still somebody I trust at the plate in September to work a count in a big situation and not wet his pants.
  14. What lineup are people expecting? There's nothing problematic about it until you get to Pina. Arcia has been playing well for weeks now and needs to be in there.
  15. I never have understood the dislike of Perez. Every team has a utility player like that. He plays average ball at many positions. By all accounts seems to be a good teammate. Every guy on the roster isn't going to OPS .800+. It just seems like he takes too much heat and gets lumped in with the catcher and shortstop hitting .200
  16. Not sure if this has been mentioned, but CC or DS did say last night that MM is open to playing second. They've already floated that so it's another possible outcome eventually.
  17. I think desperate is a stretch. Stearns has brought in head-scratcher players that have turned out really well for the Brewers. His moves are very calculated. If he were desperate he would've given up more for Machado when he had the chance. I think the research team sees something in MM that favored him doing well in MP and fitting in with our offense. I don't see desperation, I see a low-risk, high-reward move.
  18. We're better than we were yesterday. How much better will be seen. I like the move as I think Shaw will be just fine at 2B and we need a bat. We got one. One with pop that doesn't strike out much. Brett Phillips was never going to do anything in Milwaukee as he wouldn't play, and everybody knowing that likely limited his value as a trade chip. We improved the offense without giving up anything substantial.
  19. After reading more I don't think another move is coming. They are sticking Shaw at second.
  20. Hamels will pitch 2.50 ERA baseball the rest of the way and at least 1 CG shutout against the Brewers
