  1. I think you'd help out offense more by leaving Wiemer where his D is bringing positive value and find an RFer that can hit.
  2. I'm sure if Tony LaRussa was coaching the Reds, they would be throwing balls at us for this... and/or any other perceived slight like having a hat on crooked, not wearing stirrups, smiling in the dugout, using blue as a primary color, or wearing stirrups. But I can't see anyone pinning this to a bulletin board... kind of a "meh" comment at most. Granted, Corbin himself could use an upgrade this second half of the season too. All-Star or not...
  3. The Wilken/Knoth combo feels a lot like our normal "got a deal with the second so take an underslot with the first to double-dip" draft approach (e.g. Brown/Misiorowski of last year). But Pratt feels a little odd to me. I wonder if something happened mid-draft that alerted the Brewers that he was signable so they grabbed him in the 6th round when they hadn't planned to earlier? Otherwise, you'd expect him a bit higher... I can't imagine they would do it without being sure they can sign their top 10 (per their normal draft approach anyway).
  4. With so many variables of the pitcher, runner, catcher, and SS/2B, it is hard to distinguish the catcher's responsibility from the others. I know they have pop times for how long the catcher takes to get to 2nd, but a rating of accuracy would be nice too (perhaps there is one in the depths of catching metrics?). At least you could compare apples to apples. Edit: and of course they have this already: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/catcher-throwing
  5. Its too bad Huira was hurt earlier or he might've gotten a shot when Winker was injured. Then we could go into the trade deadline knowing if he could be an upgrade or not. Well, actually... I think he is clearly an upgrade on today's Winker, so perhaps that should be "how much of an upgrade?" You roll the dice not making a bigger move at DH on the hopes that Huira is a positive WAR for the rest of the year. But perhaps a move at 1B and Huira at DH lessens that risk. Whatever happens, Winker needs to be removed from CC's options so he stops putting top-3 in the lineup. blah...
  6. How about "Robots on strike: Scrub umpires are taking our jobs!" I thought I read/watched something where they stated each player was measured to match a strike zone to their height.
  7. With Twitter and the internet in general, I have fairly low expectations for the ability of sports bloggers to write a decent article,. But my goodness there are people out there that couldn't pass a jr high grammar class. I don't know if I could intentionally write this poorly. Players like Dean Lowry and Tyler Lancaster, who had seen a lot of snaps for the Packers in recent seasons, were, for the most part, strictly interior defenders and more so space eaters rather than penetrating defensive linemen, which this system requires, and is the type of player Devonte Wyatt, a 2022 draft pick, is. https://packerswire.usatoday.com/2023/07/11/packers-emphasize-versatility-along-defensive-front-to-maximize-scheme/
  8. Given the backlash of the Hader trade and Burnes' mediocre results, the best course of action would be to hold onto Burnes and hope he rebounds a bit before trading him in the offseason. Or if he continues as is... next trade deadline.
  9. Rowdy hitting sandwich between a toasted Hader trade bread with a side of Wiemer/Adames chips. Delicious!
  10. South metro Twin Cities. I was just in Chetek, WI and they had them in droves. Perhaps they are slow in coming, but I know both are helping. I started Milky spore in 2021 (it takes a year to effect as it kills the grubs). Last July, they came out strong, but reduced. Then in Aug sometime I started using Neem oil. They would land on the plant but not eat it. In years past, they were so bad, they bronzed one of my apple trees. I started using traps (yes, they might attract from neighbors, but it was so bad, I had to) and I would replace the bag weekly in two traps. Last year, I only had one bag per trap for the whole season. This year, no traps and only spraying neem oil weekly with the milky spore doing its thing from a couple years ago. The contrast is very stark. And both solutions are natural solutions, so I appreciate not having chemical pesticides on my fruit trees.
  11. I see one or two June bugs every year at my house. But until this year, we had thousands of Japanese beetles. Pretty, but terrible on my fruit trees. Milky spore in the ground and cold pressed neem oil on the trees was the solution. I started that late last year and it really knocked them back (but they did a lot of damage before I figured it out). Now, I've seen maybe a dozen this year with very minimal leaf damage. Now for the box elder bugs.
  12. I'd love to live in Bozemon, MT or Coeur d'Alene, ID or anywhere between. Beautiful country. My grandparents moved to Port Hill, ID when I was young and we visited several times. Glacier > Yellowstone.
  13. Well, last year did no favors to Crowder... bad attitude with Phoenix led him to not playing for half the year. Then a forced trade and poor performance post-trade... He probably could've gotten more than the minimum somewhere, but this is probably the type if deal he needs to take to stay with a contender. And he said he wants to play with the Bucks, right?
  14. Sure, he can pitch... but can he play shortstop?
  15. Do remember that the biggest jump is still to come for all of these players - the one to the MLB level. Top 100 ratings are great but the failure rate is also pretty high for the top 100, too. I'll worry about Quero/Contreras or even Chorio+Wiemer/Yelly/Mitchell/Frelick when they start producing at the MLB level. Having "too much talent" at one position is never a problem. It is a blessing. Between injuries, failing to live up to rankings, trades... much can happen between then and now.
  16. Aargh.... Burnes' blow up Inning, Peralta's control, and Woody's health... its like all three of their major weaknesses all strike at the same time.
  17. Agreed. As it was said earlier - its a low bar. At least we stopped batting Winkler at #2 or #3... maybe he snaps out of it, but you can't keep sinking our offense waiting for it also.
  18. To show it mathematically (thus, I MUST be right!): Hauser @SP > Rea @SP but Hauser @RP + Rea @SP > Hauser @SP + Rea @RP The real question is when does Woody come back???
  19. Wouldn't it be better to watch Mr. Roger's Neighborhood then? He actually gives good advice. 😂
  20. Hunk-a, hunk-a burning save! Nice job Peguero!
  21. Devon Williams is now our best hope to get a man on second base...
  22. a 4 pitch walk... I assumed they figured he was easier to get out on the bases than let him hit!
  23. It still is odd to see how Julio and Miley can pitch so well and see Burnes and Freddy struggle. Missing Woody also.
