  1. Nope. I said they would not have had as good of careers as they had. It is hard to compare players head to head. Yes, their careers overlapped, but situations are different.

  3. Especially early in his career, Favre normally played poorly (too amped up) until he took a big hit. Fans (myself too) used to root for him to take a good lick and he'd play much better. He was also pretty well known to pop up immediately after a big sack and congratulate the sacker - basically taking away some of the momentum of the sack.

  5. Well, I don't like Fields (mainly due to Badger losses) and I don't like Chicago, so... But that isn't the greatest place for a QB to go. Their best QB of all time played 25 years before I was born...

  9. Rodgers would not have withstood the pounding that Favre took. QBs are far more protected now. Pretty much the pivot was right around the Viking/NO NFC championship game. This era seems to be predicated on more complicated offenses, minimizing INT and maximizing completion percentages. Both would've been good in the other's timeframe, but I don't think they would've have nearly as good of a career than they had.
  10. Yeah I know. And I probably picked the top 7th round pick the Packers ever had. But it is also why you don't just throw them away either.
  11. Not Bonds. Never Bonds. Many, many baseball players before Bonds.
  12. I read some article about the best matches for a Rodgers trade and they had the 49ers the top match... I laughed and laughed... It would be a great fit if Rodgers didn't have a massive chip on his shoulder from being passed over by them.
  13. I don't think Rodgers plays well in Favre's era nor vice-versa. Both were what we needed when we needed them.
  14. I'm not reading 10 pages of text on this. I'll just say that after work I thought a trade was actually made the way everything was blowing up. Then I read the articles all about speculation and rumors... All I have to say is NFL draft drama. Next week it will be all the discussion on how they made up. Two weeks after that, he'll have an interview about how everything is wonderful...
  15. Isn't the current punter a draft pick, even worse a former 5th? I suppose they could as 7th round picks are usually garbage anyway...but I am willing to bet a 5th won't be used on the position again any time soon. What'd you say?
  16. That doesn't explain what we do with our first.
  17. Ugh... I was excited in ST just because he is a WI boy, but wow, he looked like toast in ST.
  18. I wouldn't be shocked. Hopefully with a 6th or 7th and not sooner. Of course, the punter's importance is greatly reduced in this era of going for 4th downs more often... maybe keep drafting offense instead. I saw one one mock draft that had us drafting a new long snapper... That I hope to avoid (find a replacement if needed, but not draft one).
  19. Yet here we are with the team's #1 RB signed to an extension. Dillon will make a fine #2 during his next 3 year tenure. If I draft a RB in 2021 am I not drafting for the future? RBs are easily replaceable. Team had 2 quality RBs, not 1 or 0. What Gutey did was guarantee his first 2 picks were not going to see the field without injury. Your comment acts like if I were making the draft selection that player wouldn't have a future on the team. My thought process is that with a 2nd rd pick Im drafting a player that should fill a need in that season. Dillon and Love were neither. As to Deguara another RB/TE hybrid. So we needed him why? Tonyan, Sternberger, Williams, Jones, and Lewis? Yeah he got injured by 2nd game but tell me where are these snaps he was going to play without a major injury as #4 behind both RB and TE. Wheres the logic in this draft when your rookies make the biggest impact of any major sport the same year drafted? I've always felt that good, well-run teams should never feel obligated to use the draft to acquire multiple 1st year starters/high-end contributors. The Packers have long had a draft-and-develop philosophy, and while they may have failed to get to the Super Bowl "promised land", that philosophy has led to long-term success for the most part. I have no problem with the Dillon pick, despite Jones re-signing, because the idea of a bell-cow NFL back is antiquated and nearly dead. Most every successful team has two if not 3 backs that they rotate. As for Deguara, I think Lafleur and Gute fell in love with the idea of having their own version of Kyle Juszczyk. And considering the 49ers just recently decided to pay that 30-year-old FB $27 million over the next 5 years, it is obvious that there are certain schemes where that position is highly valued. There were no guarantees that Jones would resign. But even with him here, Dillon is going to get a lot of work this year (and would've been more useful last year if it wasn't for his COVID "injury"). I'd imagine we will draft another RB in 2021 because we only have two legit RBs on the roster. Normally want 3-4 for depth. Thankfully, we didn't didn't have much for injuries at QB or RB, but you can't count on that this year. I'd imagine Boyle was probably "saved" by the lack of preseason as they didn't want to chance going with an unproven Love at backup. But having a decent backup QB is normally important. As others have said, being able to draft for depth and the future is how teams win long term. Sure, I was disappointed and wanted flashier picks, but there are reasons we are sitting on a forum and not employed by the NFL.
  20. Ok, if drafts only count for one year, 2020 was a fiasco. Thankfully fans aren't in charge of our drafts. Love and Dillon were clearly drafted for the future and not 2020. Sometimes that is necessary. You didn't like it, but it doesn't make it a fiasco overall since the players don't have 1 year careers.
  21. Counsell claimed Godley has been stretched out. While a bullpen day would seemingly increase their chances for success today, I wonder if they are going to ask Godley to stick around for 85+ pitches regardless of the score in order to preserve the bullpen for the upcoming Dodgers series and the fact they still have 12 straight days with games ahead. I hope he pitches great, but I’m not ruling out that they’re using him as a proverbial sacrificial lamb to bridge the pitching gap for a day. It wouldn't surprise me to see Weigel and Godley combine for 6 IP and swap out Weigel for someone else for the next series.
  22. We are in a pretty good spot to not have any glaring needs at the moment - though Bahk's injury puts LT/RT at risk to start the season. So obviously BPA. But sometimes you have several players that are equally BPA. I'd say by "need", we have OT first then CB/DL/WR are all pretty equal. CB vs WR: Both positions need 2 or 3 (occasionally 4) players on the field at the same time, so number of starters and depth is nicely comparable. Alexander-Adams - Grade A top of the line starter King-MVS: Inconsistent starter with athletic ability. Both have had "WOW" and "ARRRGGGHHH" moments. Sullivan-Lazard: UDFA that outperform their draft status. Shown flashes of being really good, but still not taking the next step. Lazard's injuries seem to be the biggest hurdle for him. Jackson-St.Brown: Lots of ability, but not getting much time. This season is probably their last with the Packers if they don't figure it out. Rest: both have some good athletes that need to put the next step up. Mostly late round picks and UDFAs. To me the two positions seem neck-and-neck. Both also have similar long-term concerns with contract situations. Edit- I did forget Funchess, which probably does give WR a leg (two technically) up on CB. Not sure what he provides though after being out nearly two years. Not much help long term either.
  23. Fixed. I only bother with Twitter when someone here posts something interesting. Social media on the whole can be pretty toxic, but the format of Twitter seems to bring out the worst in people.
  24. My first response was "who?" I watched a bunch of ST and still don't remember him. Seems like a pretty meh selection. Experience, but not really anything for upside. Throws three pitches - FB, Cutter, Slider - all at the same speed (88-90). I wonder how much of a BP this will be? I wouldn't think he would go too long nor multiple times through the lineup. 3 IP maybe?
