  1. The only issue I have with people complaining about their team is when people complain about any and all moves. Or when someone is right once and beats that drum for a year. Some people just like to complain. Some people I wonder why or if they are actual fans of the team at all...
  2. I’d argue their depth was pretty solid all year, but they were short their All-Pro left tackle against the best front seven in the NFL. That’s not really a depth issue. I'm scratching my head here. Our starters were pretty good last year, but when we lost our LT, our depth was exposed. Then we lost one starter to FA and one of our depth Tackles isn't resigned. And our LT is still questionable as to when he will return. How do we not have a depth issue? I'd say OL is our biggest need at the moment. I don’t get the wide receiver obsession some fans (and the media) seem to have. Rodgers was the MVP of the league throwing to the current bunch. Typically, it takes time for WRs to develop. So a WR pick is normally one for the future. Depending on who we pick, he is probably the 4th WR this year, but could pass MVS and Lazard pretty quickly. I like both MVS and Lazard, but they are probably both #3 WRs at this point - potential to be a #2, but neither is taking that step yet. Yes, Rodgers won the MVP. That doesn't mean we don't have deficiencies at WR or that we couldn't be better... If Bateman falls to us, I think you sprint to the podium and say thank you very much!
  3. I was on it in spring training. I was actually disappointed with JBJ's signing just because that meant Taylor was less likely to make it.
  4. Goodbye binary! Hello tertiary or quaternary! One of my engineering professors told us that the person that could invent a computer that ran on more than two states would be very rich!
  5. People still do hire COBOL programmers... (a language that was stopped being used on new products in the 80s) Python is a good general purpose language. Anyone using a computer daily should probably learn a little bit - even just to understand it. But you might be surprised how you can automate stuff. I'd say coding a ML algorithm can be rather tricky...training one is much easier. I've never done either myself, but have told my kids that AI/ML/CV are huge and growing fields and I'd probably go that direction if I were in college. Going to tour a factory with a friend of mine that does factory automation and Computer Vision. Very cool stuff.
  6. If you were to plot it, it looks exponential, which makes sense. But it also varies greatly year to year based on the draft and where the talent dropoffs lie for that particular draft. The old Jimmy Johnson draft guide was leaked but I wonder how much teams used it exactly as it was leaked or if they did their personal tweaks each year. Now-days, I could see using value based analytics to calculate the typical value of a #1 overall pick compared to a #5 (and all others).
  7. True. The "experts" that are employed by websites rarely have a strong bead on what will actually happen. And one little wave (i.e. trade) can change things in a heartbeat. I'd actually be pretty happy with Barmore if he fell to us. I'd love any of: Barmore, Newsome, Jenkins, Cosmi, Farely, Toney, or Bateman for the first pick. Oh, and getting Derrick Barnes in the later rounds would be fun, just so we could have two ILB named Barnes. Give them single digit numbers and Tom Brady would be totally confused...
  8. If I had put "something no one expects", I think that would get all votes. I was limited at 15 choices and cut Barmore at #16 because it sounded like he was going by the early 20s. Maybe not, but that was why I dropped him.
  9. Another idea is to get an ARDUINO or a raspberry pi if you haven't gotten one already. There are a lot of cool things you can do with both of them and even some of the basic younger kids stuff are rather fun to do. Google does have a summer camp for coding that is geared more towards high school aged people. https://buildyourfuture.withgoogle.com/programs/computer-science-summer-institute/ Thanks for the Google idea. I've not seen that one. We do have a Pi - part of the electronics/python course they did. He generally runs Minecraft on it...
  10. So restorative justice then? The difference between today's behaviors and behaviors from the past. Not only in baseball, but life as well. Consequences have become a thing of the past. Not all consequences of the past worked or were right. I think managers, like humans, can evolve and make smart decisions with their players. There is more than one way to do things... +1. I have 6 kids and manage 20 engineers (there are a lot of similarities in my work and home life ). You can't have one way to teach/coach/discipline with a large team. You have to know the individual and tailor it to what will work for him.
  11. While a degree in computer science would be good he should also do hackathons and other events depending on what he is interested in. A coding boot camp would also be beneficial if he hasn't had much in terms of coding experience. I've looked at a couple coding boot camps, but they tend to be for younger kids (he is 15). I've introduced him to Python in a home electronics/robotics/coding course and he will probably take Java next year in PSEO. I'm mainly trying to show him and his older brother (17 - looking more at engineering) the breadth of options in the field. I was completely lost when I started out going to college....
  12. So very close, but not quite the right experience. But maybe I'll show this to my HS son. He is looking to go this direction (Computer Science) and it is always interesting to look at job options.
  13. It is a little strange to me how much different Gutey has operated than Ted. With Ted, this feels like a no-brainer. Wonder if Gutey will become a little less aggressive as time moves on. He was hired by Wolf but learned under TT. So far, he's been much more Wolf than Thompson. https://www.nfl.com/news/seven-round-2021-nfl-mock-draft-round-1-broncos-bears-trade-up-for-qbs Wolf traded back quite often... he was famous of saying he wanted more bites of the apple. But Wolf was more variable than TT (trading up and down, signing FAs, trading low picks for vet players to fill gaps). I think Gute has been far more unpredictable of the three.
  14. Well, people do come here to air their grievances... Like about spelling. :P I figured two polls would be too much.
  15. Then comment on who you want to draft or what you want them to do. I'd say if Newsome or Marshall falls, grab them. I think Farley is very interesting too. Otherwise, I think they trade down for Cosmi or other.
  16. I wonder if we might actually trade down? OT is pretty thin, but we don't have any one spot that is an absolute "need to have". I'd think if a few key players are off the board (Newsome, Cosmi, etc..), they might trade back.
  17. [sarcasm]I always thought the Grand Chute was the slide Bernie slid down...[/sarcasm]
  18. I lived in WI and bought a car in MN. They handled taxes and license swap. But I'd think it might be harder if the state isn't right next door.
  19. Looked better from the side than from the front. At the letters... high, but not as high as it seemed.
  20. Dillard needs a new look... the beard and intense eyes gives me a creepy uni-bomber vibe.
  21. The infield needed DP practice. Not sure if that should be blue or not...
