  1. Taylor staying hot. In his age 27 year, he is doing everything he can to win a spot.
  2. I wonder if Hauser's spot might be more up for grabs than Lindblom? They kind of had opposite seasons last year with Hauser looking good initially and his results continued to erode. But either Hauser or Lindblom can pitch in the BP too, so I hope they do go with the best pitcher for the starter. Freddie has the most upside, so lets see if he can make it happen.

  4. I've thought this is a great way to break in a SP in the MLB for sometime. It doesn't work for everyone, but when you have a starter that (currently) isn't clearly better than any of your 5 starters and has nothing to gain at AAA, it is a good way to get him used to the majors without having him jump into the deep end.

  6. This is cool. Have they been doing a Gamecast for the regular season MLB games too? Yes, the Baseball Savant gamefeed provides great Statcast information during all regular season games. I'll start adding the link to the top of the regular season In-Game Threads. Ok, that is awesome. I saw the boxscore after the game and was hoping to go watch Burnes, Mitchell, Turang, and Lutz in the MLB replay, but no video... This is almost better since you actually can see velocities (pitching and hit velo) and other stat-geek info. Some of my favorite tidbits: - Burnes has 2 Ks, 0 Hard hit balls. He didn't throw any FBs and was throwing his sinker at 97/98 MPH. - Mitchell's single had an exit velo of 109MPH (more than Manny's HR). - Vogelbach had an out with an exit velo of 112 MPH - Zimmermann had three balls (2 hits, 1 out) in an inning that were considered "hard hit". FB was in the 86-89 range (Ok, not a "favorite" but telling). - Freddie is still throwing 70% FBs. But looks like he has two speeds of CB now. Or at least working on it. - Boxberger was in at a 95/96MPH FB with a 86/87 MPH slider. - Feliciano doesn't like to see many pitches. 2 ABs, 3 pitches. This is a dangerous site... so much stuff to look at. I think I will spend far too much time here...
  7. Ouch... too soon. Not wrong, but too soon.
  8. It isn't where there are drafted, but the talent level and ability to get open on their own. MVS had games where he was a legit starting WR anywhere in the league, but more games where he had no effect. And all of his routes take time because it is all predicated on speed. Lazard has a chance at being a solid #2 and has shown that for several games in a row, but then gets injured and comes back less reliable. There are few teams in the league where either of these two would start. St Brown and Funchess are clear backups at this point. Funchess would probably be signed by someone if we cut him, but he was available for pretty cheap when we got him. St. Brown has size and speed, but shown pretty much nothing on the field. Do we make the team work? Yes. But it wouldn't take much to upgrade the group also. Getting a Randall Cobb or Gregg Jennings type player (game predicated on route running and footwork rather than speed) would be very helpful to balance with the team to have guys getting open for shorter routes.
  9. Regarding TE, I see Tonyan a bit like Chmura with Favre. A decent player that would be ok elsewhere, but accentuated well in the system and with his QB. I don't see someone giving up a 2nd for him. If we do draft a TE in the 3rd/4th rounds, that will probably speak more to Sternberger than Tonyan. If our Offense has two Tonyan-like TEs (very good, but not a Pro-Bowl lock), two starting WRs, Williams/Dillon and the OL blocks about the same as last year... that is a flexible offense and a flexible offense is a dangerous one.
  10. Here is why I was interested in getting a WR in the early rounds. All of our WRs beyond Adams (and maybe MVS) are successful because of Rodgers. We have limped along with the group and it has been good enough to beat most teams. But the teams that beat us generally are able to take away Adams and rush the passer. No one else can get open by the time the pass rush is on us. Drafting a WR rarely has much of an impact the first year, but it does happen. Regardless, we have lacked talent at WR for years and the biggest key to taking the next step offensively is a solid #2 WR. Funchess isn't it (and no guarantees he comes back anyway). OT is a need to and if that is the BPA when we pick, it will be a good choice. But I think it will be easier to get a stopgap RT in FA (resign Wagner or similar) and draft one in the 4th round than finding a WR that would fill our need.
  11. There was a lot of discussion of Watt to Pittsburg, but I'd say AZ is just as much a contender as the Steelers...maybe moreso depending on what happens this offseason. AZ seems to be ascending while Pitt is falling.
  12. With Bakh out and Turner's cap number more problematic each year, I honestly think they're setting up to draft a tackle sooner rather than later, possibly in the 1st round where there'll be talent at the end of the round on the line as there always is. Obviously, there's a lot that can/will happen in free agency, but I'd expect a lineman to be on of their first picks. My first edit included an OT with CB/WR in the first three rounds... then I "settled" for a 4th round OT since we seem to do well there. I also expect to find an OT (Wagner or the like) in FA to band-aide a bit. That seems more possible than finding a CB or WR to band-aide the starter spot.
  13. I would put AZ higher than last. They limped out the season at 8-8 mainly because of Murray's injury. I've not watched him much, but you have a young QB with high potential, the best WR in the league, a good defense that he (if healthy) makes great. Disappointing, but a sneaky good move...
  14. I'm was cheering for Taylor before yesterday. And he started off really nicely yesterday (yes, one game, but better than 3Ks). Regarding Arcia - I'm thinking that there is too much analysis is going on here about Arcia vs Garcia/Taylor/etc at CF... It's spring training. People try different spots in ST. Arcia no longer has a lock on SS. It might mean something...it might mean nothing. Who knows? You try him out there and see what you have... then you worry about whether you move Garcia over or whether Taylor wins the spot... Flexibility is valuable even if you never have to use it.
  15. Yes. Much like Hader, he is succeeding in the BP and probably just needs to be left there.
  16. Out of curiosity, i started digging into Jordan's regression as it started immediately when he switched to Detroit. - Washington 2011-2015: ERA was 2.66-3.66 - Detroit 2016-2019: ERA was 4.52-6.91 (he only pitched a few innings in 2020, so I excluded them for small sample size - they still were not good). He was only 29 when going to Washington, so I didn't expect that big of a shift. The DH alone isn't enough, but maybe just being in Detroit was enough? I did find two items of note: - FB speed and %: He was consistently around 62-63% (one spike of 70%) in Washington while getting around 93MPH on his FB. In Detroit, he almost immediately dropped off to 45-54%, while his velocity dropped to 90-92 MPH. - His CB % saw a bit of an uptick (+5-6%), but his CB speed came up 3 MPH also and tightens the gap with his slider (80MPH CB with 85MPH SL compared to 77CB/87SL in WAS). He never had a huge FB, but his demise seems to be tied to the FB loss of velocity and value. So I wonder if - He got a big payday and relaxed too much? - He changed some mechanics/grip/philosophy in Detroit to make such a huge change in results? (Granted, his FB value started to dip his last year in WAS). Who knows if the Brewer's clinic could help him or not (they didn't seem to do much for Shelby Miller), but no harm in kicking the tires and see what can be done.
  17. I turned on the game half-way through the 3rd Q (whenever the Brewer game ended) and watched the rest. Giannis looked pretty good and has put up good numbers the last 5 games. I'm guessing his increased FT % has helped there a bit (not only in making more, but perhaps less hack-a-Shaq tendency?). But the rest of the team's offense was pretty offensive.
  18. Since things are starting to warm up on the draft front, I thought I'd start a new thread to discuss. Packers should have 10 picks in the draft: - Their original 7 - 3 comp picks - probably in the 4th, 5th, and 6th rounds Obviously, they need to go BPA. But in terms of need, an ideal draft would have: - A CB and WR in the first two rounds. - Double up (one early, one late) on drafting CBs. - 4th round OT and RB. - 5th round MLB - Need to squeeze a DT in there also (3rd?) With needs at RB, MLB, DL and OT, seems like they could use a bunch of 4th round picks as they seem to have some success there for those positions.
  19. Giannis looks SO much better at the FT line now. He used to be herky-jerky and is nice and smooth now.
  20. How not to make the team: take an easy play and throw the ball into RF because you decide to throw it with your glove
  21. Taylor looking to get a leg up on the 4th OFer.
  22. [sarcasm]Vogelbach is in the best shape of his life![/sarcasm] (Round is a shape)
  23. Huira's OPS is 5.000!
  24. Narvaez batting a 1.000!
  25. Finally, it's back! Too bad it is only the CWS video feed, but it is still baseball!
