  1. Hard to say we developed Seitzer or Shaw. [sarcasm]And how quickly we forget Wes Helms?[/sarcasm] (maybe that was on purpose?) Taylor Green, Matt Gamel, Lucas Erceg... a lot of promise but never actually finding a 3B out of them.
  2. I think it is easier to walk away from a game where you played well, but still lost. It is the games where you lay an egg on the field that makes it hard to get over. So certainly Seattle and Philly. But no one has mentioned NYG 2008 either. That game looked a lot like the TB game, except the Giants were a more come-from-nowhere team than TB. The Packers looked unstoppable and were huge favorites. But Favre looked terrible (two INTS) and the team was flat - probably assuming their ticket to the SB was stamped. That was a very up and down game emotionally - very back and forth. They'd make a few plays and look like they were going to break though, they make stupid plays and fall on their face.
  3. MVS caught 4 balls for 115 yards and a TD against the Bucs, while Lazard caught 3 for 62. Both had very good games. Sorry, bad example. I must be trying to block that one out...
  4. He wouldn't need to outplay Lazard/MVS to contribute. As I mentioned, we were down to Adams/MVS and Lazard/MVS at times when injuries hit, with little behind them. Nor did I say it had to be a rookie. We were evaluating several mid-season trades and offseason FAs... The point was that for most of the season, WR was probably the position we could've most easily upgraded with an impact on the team. (though TE and OT became more key later in the season with some injuries). Even Funchess probably would've had a decent impact if he had played. Would we have scored more points? Probably. Would we have won more games? That is less clear... I think someone like Chase Claypool would've had an impact on our team. Maybe not as much as Pittsburg (more chances), but still an impact. We had a couple games where Adams was blanketed and Lazard/MVS did little (i.e. NFC championship). Those would've been the games where someone else might've contributed enough to swing a game the other way.
  5. Despite our offensive success, it is a little short sighted to say wouldn't didn't need WR help this year. Adams was a stud obviously, Lazard looked great before his surgery, and MVS had his moments. But that doesn't mean things were perfect. Most of our offense ran with two WRs out there, but when we started to fall behind, we struggled to go much deeper. Often you had RBs out running WR routes - sometimes because of play design and motion out of the backfield, but others simply because they were better than our 3rd or 4th options (especially when Adams or Lazard were out with injuries). A good chunk of last season, we were really only 2 WR deep - Adams/MVS or MVS/Lazard based on injuries. Even after Lazard returned, he didn't look like his normal self.
  6. I've been an admirer of the Fangio defense for a while now, but that is the only positive I can see with Barry coming in.... that and his last name is my first.
  7. Basically, if there is no big splashy, game-turning play, (i.e. Howard's punt return TD) nor any dominant performance by one player, the award is going to go to the player with the ball in his hands the most by default (i.e. the QB).
  8. I think Mother Theresa would've been frustrated if she was Houston's QB this year. If we didn't have Rodgers, Watson would be the only established, available QB that I'd be trying to get this year. Stafford...maybe. But a big no to Wentz, Goff, Garoppolo, or Cousins. An OK QB on a big $$ contract is the worst situation you can be in. Watson would be the only one I'd consider swapping with Rodgers.
  9. Are Cardinal contracts unwritten?
  10. We might finally get the Green at 3B we were deprived of a decade ago? Or is he the same Green we had a decade ago?
  11. Probably because we had him, he played well, yet there was still something that drove us to let him go. As do most clubs that have him for a year or two.
  12. You sure that's not St. Louis chili? Last time I was there, I ate it with my shirt untucked.
  13. Yep, if we don't turn it over, if we didn't have injuries, if, if, if... We lost. Twice. First step to recovery is to admit it. I'm not saying we never had a chance to win. I think talent-wise, we were pretty close, but TB just matches up really well with us - just one of those teams that takes advantage of our weak spots. But to insist we were still better is a bit foolish... Rankings are silly too. TB clearly was not playing well early in the season and obviously was playing huge at the end of the season. Trends are important too; teams that are hot at the end tend to play well in the playoffs.
  14. In the Chiefs' defense the circumstances were far different. There was plenty of time left in the half and they still had to defend the entire field whereas the Packers just needed to make a tackle in the field of play to guarantee that the half ended right there. My dad and I were laughing about the similarities of the play, though. Of course Breeland did the right thing and just tackled the guy. King was too slow to even do that. True that time, down, distance were all different. Just so odd that quite nearly the exact same thing happened (get burnt, leads to TD with minimal time left in the first half). If I was a team's OC, I'd certainly be testing King over Alexander. I'm not saying King is all-pro, just that other CBs get burnt too. King just seems to lose focus at the worst times. I'm thinking small improvements can make a big difference for the guy.
  15. Aren't clickbait articles pretty much the norm now instead of actual news? Fixed...
  16. Regarding King, I thought it was ironic how Breeland (the subject of a comparison with King via the Barry-DC-Washington discussion) completely failed on almost exactly the same play as King (getting burnt at the end of the first half, but getting a PI instead). We tend to forget that both teams have stars that make plays.
  17. Sorry guys, but Tampa was better than the Packers this year. There is no evidence to the contrary. I think too man people are thinking about the early version of Tampa that looked very inconsistent. Once the team came together and gelled, they were clearly the better team. We did play them better the second time around and better than the Chiefs looked in the SB. Whining about refs (that were bad, but consistently bad) doesn't help. Ironically, TB showed they can play well when Refs call nothing (NFC championship) or everything (SB).
  18. He was the one predicting Corbin Burnes to the White Sox...
  19. I'm thinking that moving Huira to 1B will relieve some pressure on him defensively, thus allowing his offensive skills to flourish.
  20. Your sarcasm aside, getting cash back and an open 40-man spot in a cash-strapped year isn't insignificant. I doubt they are going to sign someone for $20M/year but every little bit helps.
  21. I just remember going up and visiting my Grandparents who retired up in the middle of nowhere in Ashland County. So maybe not that close to Ladysmith, but when you drive 6 hours to get there, it feels kinda close. And the only station we'd get at night would be Duluth. That and all my Cousins who grew up there were Vikings fans. I guess I just accepted that explanation. It was because that was the only coverage they could get. Of course, when I say a lot, I certainly didn't mean it was anything like the number of Cubs fans in Southern Wisconsin. Yes, Duluth was all you could get up there and they REFUSED to cover anything of the Packers. Sports would only mention the Packers if they played the Vikings. Games were rarely played on TV even if the Vikings weren't playing. This was back when it was Sunday noon, mid-afternoon, and Monday night only. You'd only see the Packers on MNF, playing the Vikings or perhaps during a bye week. There were the few (5%?) that caved in, but for the rest of us, it just cemented a loathing of all thinks Vikings. I lived near LaCrosse for a while too. The situation was reversed (default to Packer games), but the sports covers both teams heavily. Packer games have the default, but Viking games are always second. Please don't aske me why I live in the Twin Cities area now...
  22. I'm upset you didn't say it earlier and don't say it more often!
  23. Having grown up north and west of Ladysmith (Solon Springs), there are some Viking fans up there, but it is pretty small. The Cubs have far more of a foothold in southern WI than the Vikings do in North and West WI.
  24. Hes a short 6' Ive seen other listings he is 5' 11" you can't tell me he doesn't look smaller than listed. This may not bring a trade but use a Hiura option. If he doesnt look the best during ST Hiura should take a return to the minors. Bat in ST notwithstanding. Maybe this solves the lineup to have Wong leadoff-L, Cain -R, and Yelich-L 3rd Not a chance in hell Hiura goes back to the minors... [sarcasm]Perhaps we can sign Travis Shaw for 1B, he is 6'4". Then Huira can go back to the minors.[/sarcasm]
  25. So any thoughts about Jerry Gray or Kris Richard? Gray was kind of "meh" as a former DC, but after spending time under Zimmer, he was very highly regarded as a DB coach. I at least hope he sticks around as a DB coach. Kris Richard might be the last gift MM gives us? Fired as Cowboys DC when they cleaned house for MM. I don't recall how he was doing in Dallas - thought he whole team kind of stunk, nor how Seattle let him go. But Seattle's D was always aggressive.
