  1. [sarcasm]That is a bannable offense sir![/sarcasm] I keep reminding my son not to stop at a round-about if no one is coming (he is just learning how to drive). But yeah that is new for a lot of people. Technically you are supposed to use the blinker when exiting a round-about so people know you aren't continuing, but I find myself putting it on while going in if doing an immediate right turn if the round about is new (i.e. still used to a normal intersection). Speaking of merging onto a freeway, I nearly was obliterated from the face of this earth on a cloverleaf exchange in MN. Semi-truck trying to exit as I was entering. He wasn't paying much attention to incoming traffic as there was a huge stream of exiting traffic. But otherwise it was neither of our faults... just a terrible ramp design for a large highway exchange (I94 and I694). The tricky part of this is that not all round abouts are designed this way. There does need to be consistency on a two lane round about for people to do it right.
  2. I actually moved out of the Chicagoland area because my commute drove me so crazy. I'll caveat that you are supposed to merge at the end (i.e. zipper merge), but Chicagoland drivers refuse. You have to be aggressive and take your spot or the next car will take it. Thus, the merge runs at half the speed because cars are braking to prevent running into each other. And yes, blinkers might be more prevalent in Chicago, but only because they are a warning. I'm coming IN - I don't care where you are - Look out! And if you are driving on I94 North or I43 North and someone passes you at 15-20 MPH over the limit, they are always ILL drivers. And yes, that has happened to me many times.
  3. Is anyone posting box scores for these exhibitions? Yeah, it is meaningless, but I still like to see how guys are doing when I can't watch the games...
  4. I'm thinking Burnes is in. Granted, I've predicted a big bounce-back year for him too. But there is a lot of talk about him from the announcers, Pina, etc.. about how much has changed this year. If Lauer isn't stretched out or Anderson still out (though that might not align with Burnes' rotation), might as well stick him in there and see how he does. He is pitching lights-out better than everyone not named Woodruff.
  5. Can those three remain on the COVID-19 list indefinitely? Or is there a limit to how long someone is on the list? I'm thinking of the situation where someone opts out of playing for the year. Is that a legit COVID-19 list usage?
  6. I think most private schools are in that range of costs/year too, so I doubt there is much to gain by doing this. Plus it would be a logistics nightmare. I wouldn't want to interview teachers for all my kids each year as they move up in classes. Then transport them myself to multiple locations and back each day. Plus they would lose the ability to do specialized classes like music, art, and shop. I doubt that would be any more cost efficient anyway; you are ignoring the overhead of a building, computers, labs, supplies, gymnasium, playground, lunchroom, etc... Public and private schools are intentionally co-locate classed together to take advantage of sharing those things.
  7. Last night, Pina was asked about who has stood out in camp so far and Burnes was his pick.
  8. This and the not pulling out into the intersection when there is no red left turn arrow. Why stop at the crosswalk you are impeding traffic. Van Buren and 7th st is always backed up because of this especially between the hours of 3PM-6pm. It is so annoying being stuck in the left turn lane because someone didn't pull out to the middle of the intersection. Ugg I really hate Arizona and California drivers. Illinois drivers are saints compared to them. MN drivers in the cities don't understand yellow left turn arrows or no arrow. They park behind the crosswalk and sit there. I've even honked at one since no one was coming and they still sat there. Granted, MN hardly ever turns on the yellow arrow too. I have one intersection where I turn left A LOT. It is setup that if no car is in that lane when the regular light turns green, you get a yellow arrow. If you are pulling into that the turning lane as the arrow goes from green, you NEVER get a yellow blinking arrow. Drives me nuts because I'm often sitting there with no one coming.
  9. I was annoyed at first, but he grew on me and had me and my kids laughing.
  10. No. And a couple of months ago I gave my stash to my wife to use at work. I'm pretty sure I saw some at Sam's club last time I was there. But it might be the generic brand too.
  11. I've done MLB.TV for a while. Since I'm getting my master's degree I get a bigger discount too. And after paying the full price in the spring, they refunded part of it...
  12. [sarcasm]Maybe everyone needs wipes to clean the ball each time they field it and before they throw it? Or everyone can just wear gloves on their throwing hand...[/sarcasm]
  13. Thanks. I figured that would be the answer, but I'm blocked at work and still refuse to join Twitter nation on my phone ([sarcasm]Get off my lawn![/sarcasm]).
  14. [sarcasm]That is a horrible trade! What GM needs to be fired?!? [/sarcasm] Where are you finding this info? I can't seem to find anything about selecting the teams or this draft.
  15. The office space thing probably wouldn't work since many time office space isn't near residential areas. Plus there are issues with company confidential information. You can't even go into my companies office without proving you are a US citizen and with a constant internal company escort due to export compliance rules. But a friend of mine that works downtown Minneapolis on the 30-40 something-th floor of a high-rise said that rats were beginning to take over their office...
  16. I think you are giving Snyder too much credit. He seems like that Type A, cocky CEO that believes he can win any battle.
  17. Well now we know who's really the better player... I wonder if they can do trades "mid-series"?
  18. I don't know that I agree with the second part of this, his slider was very effective against RHB. A changeup will be better if it's a good offering though. When a guy faces Hader, he spends so much time trying to figure out if a fastball is high out of the zone or barely at the top of the zone...because his pitches play best when he flirts with the very top of the zone. Now all of a sudden you have to wonder if what looks like a hittable "fastball" is actually a changeup that will drop out of the zone. If he can throw 10-12% changeups, it would be massive. And it would probably on paper look like a savage pitch...because nobody is going to go to the plate against Hader looking changeup. They'll all sit fastball because you darn well better against Hader, and they'll swing helplessly at his good changeups. I'll qualify my statement by saying "relatively". Hader had a good year and all of his "stuff" was excellent, but when he was "off", people recognized his slider and let it go. Then waiting on the FB and pounded it. You could almost tell when he was going to have a bad outing because he couldn't locate his slider. Out of curiosity, I looked up his numbers for slider against RHB. He got a strike 70% of the time with it. 55% of his strikes were in-zone and 45% out of the zone (i.e. swinging or bad call). That is actually a very good ratio; like I said, overall his numbers were very good. Too bad I can't separate the data for the ABs where he gave up HRs or the outings where he gave up runs. I'm guessing, but the games I've seen him pitch, his slider strike percentage will go down sharply in those games.
  19. Ugh... McDs was worth 10 days to him? The food inside must be REALLY bad...
  20. Seems like FB/Slider to lefties and FB/Change to righties could be pretty devastating if he can throw it for strikes. Last year, it seemed like RHB could identify and lay off the slider pretty easily (as it often wasn't a strike).
  21. Yes, I'm not an advocate for a large amount of screen time for young children anyway. Once you get into high school, sure. Jr High, maybe. Grade School children should be in person though. There is a lot of social development required at that age that can't be replicated through a screen. Home-school at that age is better than school at home. Of course, parents do get a glimpse of what their teachers do go through on a given day, too.
  22. Yes and no. I manage 19 people directly plus 1 contractor and 6 others working on my project "on loan" from other managers. Yes, it has been harder, but still workable. I do spend much more time on the phone, IM, email and meetings (i.e. all communication devices) than I did in person, but it doable. I have no idea how that works in the Navy, though...
  23. Special needs kids would also struggle as various therapies (physical, occupational, speech,etc..) are nearly impossible via ZOOM. I have two kids that are legally blind and their therapy sessions over zoom were pretty useless. I have to say that my company has handled this very well to support the employees at this time. Nearly everyone with desk jobs were sent home to work from home. Even now, they are planning "phase 1" of the return to work and the population included is extremely small (zero engineers out of ~2000). They gave us 80 hours of paid leave time to deal with COVID issues (i.e. being sick, dealing with school from home, or daycare issues). Not all companies are afforded that type of luxury; especially the "blue-collar" hands-on workers that can't work from home. It is going to be an interesting fall if COVID has a big second round.
  24. Going from Redskins to Red Tails seems like an opening for a lot of misunderstood derogatory comments though. I don't know if Red Tails is a common enough term for most people to make a connection. If you'd have said the Tuskegee airmen, I knew that group. I didn't know the Red Tails name.
