  1. I see a lot of people wanting Murray with no mention of Queen. Do you expect Queen to have zero chance of dropping to the Pack or just not like him?
  2. Thanks, but I understand how the 2007 season and 2008 offseason are related... And he obviously didn't actually retire. And that was my point... he was waffling that year pretty seriously - the year they drafted Brohm & Flynn. When they drafted Rodgers, he talked about it but wasn't close to seriously considering it.
  3. Let me ask this: IF the Lions ended up with Chase Young (very unlikely but possible), would the Packers alter their draft strategy at all?? IMHO keeping Rodgers upright & healthy is paramount to the Packers making a playoff run. No Rodgers = no post-season. Those two comments were independent and unrelated to each other. One post above mine was speaking about how the Lions couldn't mess it up. One post prior to that was talking about the Pack drafting a QB. Rodgers is a very good QB but isn't elite anymore. If we had another very good QB backing him up, the tune would be a little different. My preferred (all things being equal) selection at #30 is an OT. But if our next franchise QB fell to us, I would be jumping all over it. It is just hard to know at the time of the draft if they will be a franchise QB or not. I think our tackle situation is manageable for this year if we pass on one high in the draft.
  4. Favre had already retired from the Packers before they even drafted Brohm or Flynn. He waffled after Rodgers' rookie season in 2005, then again after the 2006 season before finally retiring after 2007. He never retired after the 2007 season. He had talked about it from 2006-2007, but it was normally right after the previous season ended and he wanted to play after a month or two off. In the offseason of 2008, He talked about it pretty seriously... on and off and on and off. After the 2008 draft, where they drafted 2 backup QBs to Rodgers, he proclaimed he still wanted to play. So they traded him to the Jets. He didn't retire until 2010.
  5. Just think... we could set an NBA record for the championship team with the smallest average attendance. And this might actually help Giannis' free throws.
  6. I agree with the premise that ‘GMs shouldn’t pass on a Rodgers because they have a Favre,’ but this time around, the QB isn’t waffling on retirement every year. If a guy who the Packers felt had franchise QB potential falls to 30, I hope they trade back and acquire surplus value for the pick. But if they can’t trade back? I’d take him. Favre wasn't really waffling when they drafted Rodgers. He was waffling when they drafted Brohm and Flynn. Rodgers is showing some signs of age, so having a good backup and a QB developing for a year or two is a great idea. And if a franchise QB falls, you have to take him. If you don't think he is a franchise QB and someone else does, you pick their pockets in a trade down.
  7. Except that Rhodes went 6-9 in 1997, and followed it up with a 3-13 stinker in 1998 for the Eagles. He was pretty dang lucky to get another shot with the Packers. Ugh... I had a brain fart. I was thinking he went from DC to HC in GB. I forgot he left years earlier, back to the 49ers, then Eagles HC.
  8. For myself, I'd say the pickings are really thin. The homer side of my loves Taylor, but I don't think I'd like him as our 1st round pick. I expected there to be a decent CB or DT to pick, but that cupboard is really bare too (at least at the end of the 1st round). I guess I'd only say if a QB falls that we really think is BPA, I'd be ok with that. I really wasn't impressed by much else. But on the flip side, it is really (pleasantly) surprising at how many late round 1 OT/WRs are listed there.
  9. The Packers have been mocked to every ILB, WR, and OT that are expected to be available at the end of the 1st round. But every here and there I see snips about other "non-need" players going to the Pack at #30. So barring a surprising drop of someone and assuming we don't draft an ILB, WR, or OT, what player would you be happy drafting? I'd say anyone listed outside the top 20 is fair game for consideration. I'd be ecstatic to get Chase Young, but that isn't happening.
  10. Kind of an inversion of the Hershel Walker trade btw Dallas and Minnesota?
  11. I thought Sherman Lewis did get an interview (or maybe I'm thinking elsewhere). I remember dreading Lewis being the HC. He was a good detail orientated/planning level coach, but wasn't really a leader. But frankly, I think hiring Reid over Rhodes and Lewis would've raised some eyebrows. I thought Rhodes was going to be a good coach for us at the time. I don't think anyone could've predicted how badly Rhodes did and how good Reid eventually ended up being.
  12. They are the Lions, so there is a way they can mess it up... I think it might be a year early to draft a QB (based on Rodger's contract and the impact of cutting him), but you can't pass up the BPA if they fall into your lap. Much the same was said when we drafted Rodgers.
  13. Carolina could also lose a lot of fans. There is some monetary value in keeping your favorite players around; especially when you have no one else to pay. Losing Newton and McCaffrey in one season would be pretty devastating for fans. Sad to see anyone die so young (36).
  14. Agreed. There is normally a big gap between the top 4 seeds and the teams vying for the 8th seed. I'd play a few games to "warm up" and then get the full playoffs going.
  15. I think MrTP (can we shorten your handle to that? ) meant that Fiers was terrible for Houston, as he was responding to my previous comment with Houston being the context. And per the article, DM wanted Hader, Santana and Phillips for Gonzalez. Fiers and Houser were added to even it out. It was never 2for1 for either player. But my original assertion was that getting neither Gonzalez nor Fiers was a positive for Houston given the "legacy" both players left. Gonzalez was never "right" again, so I doubt Houston's handling of him had any bearing on the situation. It is very interesting how bad Fiers did with Houston and how well he pitched after, however.
  16. I'd imagine the Houston side of that trade goes down in the annuls of time as their worst trade ever. They basically got a no-hitter and a scandal out of it while giving up 3 MLB players. And I remember with Brett Phillips was thought to be the center point of the trade. Interesting that he was the third part of the trade.
  17. agreed. For most things (even going back to work), there is going to need to be a ramp up plan. A 'test the water' activity that builds people's confidence.
  18. MN Gov Walz just extended the stay at home to May 4th, which isn't surprising. Looking at the John Hopkins data tracking site, it looks like the US has peaked in cases/day (though the midwest might not be there yet). Using how long it took to ramp to the peak (if that is the peak) and assuming an approximate standard distribution, it would be right around that point where the new cases/day would be pretty minimal. No, I'm not a medical professional, just looking at the numbers statistically. My guess is that "normal" work activities will resume first with recreational activities like baseball following after it is clear there is no second wave. I wonder if baseball and basketball might start without fans first to get things moving. Then resume normal sporting activities later.
  19. I don't care for moving down if we end up with fewer picks (i.e. both 2nd round picks 40 and 57 for #30, GB's 3rd round #94, and the 5th round pick #175.). I did a draft simulation with the Houstanr #40/#90 for our #30 and there were a lot of nice players still at #90, while still having OTs Jones/Cleveland available at #40. That would be an ideal situation in my opinion. Of course, that all depends on who is available at #30 at the time. If Mims, Queens or someone else drops down, I wouldn't trade down. If QB Love falls to us, we should demand a high cost trade down scenario from someone (like Indianapolis). This year, having more lower picks is going to be important due to the lack of Pro Days for most players. I think we will see a lot of sleepers come late in the draft.
  20. Its all a "paper honor" anyway. Distraction for the lack of any real sports news. No one is going to tell his grandkids, "I made the 2010-2019 all-decade team".
  21. I did one simulation with the premise that someone would trade up for a QB at the end of the 1st round.... then I realized that there are no QBs really slated to be drafted there. Sure, someone else could move up, but QB is a big incentive given the 5th year contract. The more I see the draft, the more I expect the Packers to pick an OT in the first round (or their first pick). That might change if Mims or Queen drop to them, but otherwise it seems like OT is the value pick there.
  22. Actually, I didn't think it was too bad. - First round, all of my preferred WRs were gone, but I had my choice of ILBs Queen or Murray and my preferred OTs Jones and Cleveland. I picked Queen. - Second round, I just missed out on TE/WR Claypool, but had my selection of WRs DPJ, Aiyuk, and Pittman. I picked DPJ. - Third round, I saw Ben Bartch; I took Ben Bartch. Second attempt: - First: Got Mims this time. Both Queen and Murray were gone. Jones and Cleveland still available. - Second: Grabbed Cole Kmet. Pittman and DPJ still there. - Third: Grabbed Troy Dye. Bartch wasn't drafted in the three rounds at all. Given the first scenario, i would've traded down in the first round, if possible. But i'd be happy with a draft of Queen/DPJ/Bartch. Sure its "need based", but I can't claim to really evaluate DPA either. In the second (upon retrospect), I would've gone down again with Cleveland lasting to 49. Lots of 2nd round WRs available still. MLBs are pretty weak beyond Queen/Murray.
  23. And since she still married you, you are wise to "remember" it that way too.
  24. Minneapolis had it on. I caught it from the end of the 3rd quarter through the 4th. Brought a tear to my eye.
  25. If anything that article dismisses Hundley. He is only listed in the article because they listed all QBs drafted. The author summarizes the year by Winston, Marriota and a brief mention of Siemian. Hundley was panned because he couldn't complete a pass over 10 yards in 2017.
