  1. Eating at Famous Dave's, I've had brisket a few times but didn't understand the big deal about it. Last weekend, I just made my first and it was excellent! In fact, I've eaten the leftovers the last two days! I dry brined it with salt (AKCheeseHead, once I discovered this, I don't bother with wet brines), seasoned it, smoked it in the barrel for 4 hours. Then I poured some Texas mop sauce on it and wrapped it in tin foil for another hour. Then put it in a hold for another hour. It came out cut-it-with-a-fork tender and juicy! I was so pleased. Technically, I only had a 1/4 brisket with so my times were probably quicker than normal. The barrel also seems to cook much quicker than traditional, which is a nice benefit. I wasn't confident in how it would turn out, so I made burgers along with it. My kids started on the burgers, but a couple took the brisket for seconds. And my wife went back for seconds (despite her diet).
  2. I agree with your first sentence but wasn't it Cravy who ripped him? Or maybe it was both and I missed it. Cravy was a bit more sharp with his criticism, but both did.
  3. Well, with cutting Jackson and Michaels, we are relying pretty heavily on this rookie crop again. Michaels being cut is a surprise as I expected him to compete in TC at least. His inability to pickup the playbook must have been pretty bad for them to simply cut ties with him at this point. At CB, I would expect King to be a backup for this year with House and Randall starting. Jones was certainly targeted for the slot and I think Rollins playing there makes sense, but I wonder if Gunter would make sense there also. His lack of foot speed wouldn't be so obvious inside. Not to mention his height and ability to jam become big advantages there. I would guess at the WR area, Davis, Janis and Dupre are going to play for one spot. I'm sure they could find someone to trade for Janis given his ST abilities. Dupre could easily land on the PS. Davis was so up and down last year and given the normal improvements that happen in the second year, he could good enough to pass up Allison or be bad enough to become Janis w/o his ST superman abilities.
  4. I'm guessing RB and G wait until round 4 (and I tend to agree in general in that). I'm guessing CB, OLB and WR come tonight.
  5. Yeah, I've posted a picture of Vaughn from Major League several times in these discussions. For a game that depends so heavily on vision, you would think things like this would be a priority. I also remember an article discussion how Pujols used hand-eye coordination training to help him improve his batting. One would think that the basic items like these would be covered by now by teams in player development...
  6. He has had so little contiguous time playing that his whole playing history has been a sequence of small samples. Last year, he was putting together a very encouraging streak of games when he got hurt yet again. So if "turning the corner", you mean staying healthy... I certainly hope so. Talent wise he always was a boom-bust type guy. High talent, but raw. Injuries just prevented him from really getting good development time. So hopefully he can play this whole year and we can start to see what he will become. Otherwise, this is still just another small sample. But an encouraging one.
  7. More likely that they liked several players (possibly including Watt) and were willing to take whomever was left.
  8. Did you read the article? He had 20/20 when they drafted him. Yearly eye exams are not only normal, but inexpensive. If they didn't know he needed glasses, they should've...
  9. I'm here. Twice recently, I've been on time for a sparsely attended meeting and the meeting originator comes in and announces, "Where is everybody?" To which I reply, "What am I? Chopped liver?" The answer both times was "Yes". [sarcasm]Sorry, you don't count.[/sarcasm]
  10. I don't think it is due to age, but its based on contract ($$ and length) and impact to the team (pro bowls, etc..). Older players obviously have lower contracts, which is normally why they don't impact much. Also, Peppers was not in the top 4 contracts signed away from the Packers this year and you max at 4 comp picks.
  11. I think CB and OLB need is equal in my eyes. There is a direct correlation between CB performance and amount of time the QB has in the pocket. You can improve the CB talent or improve the pass rush and both will improve your defense against the pass. Not to mention that we lost several OLBs this year and our talent need is about the same. TJ Watt certainly has the homer appeal, but I think his appeal is more impacted by JJ's impact in the NFL and the thought that TJ could have a similar impact. To me, I'm cheering for Watt to be chosen, but I wonder if TT will trade up into the early 2nd round to get him after getting a CB in the first. Similar to picking Matthews. However, the other side reminds me that TT rarely drafts Badgers so its probably a moot point.
  12. Defensively, I always thought Stokes was like Clark. Or maybe Michael Reed. Could play CF, but probably not. He is someone to keep an eye on as a contributor, but I still doubt he will be a priority starting OFer.
  13. I like boiled shrimp... fried shrimp... popcorn shrimp... shrimp in butter... shrimp with...
  14. Last season was bad year for many of our prospects, so its nice to see so many start so well this year.
  15. Chris Collinsworth has the ... That post lost all credibility right there... Its hilarious to see all these mock drafts that look at a team "need" list and spew out a mock draft based on it. So many never consider team tendencies. TT will not draft an RB, MLB or G in the first round. He will trade down before he does anything like that. Not to mention that TT isn't going to take someone with off the field issues until day 3 at the earliest. Thanks for paying attention CC.
  16. My Predictions: - We will draft two CBs this year - We will draft a OL (probably a college tackle) in the 4-5th rounds and convert him to G. - We won't draft an RB in the first 3 rounds. - We will draft a player in the top 3 rounds in one of these positions that pundits will scream about because its not "a need": --- WR, TE, DL Ok, not really predictions as they are TT drafting trends...
  17. The PBC was just about as easy as advertised. It was my first attempt this last weekend, so I tweaked a few things as it went along. But it held its temperature very steady for hours without adding any charcoal to it. The ribs turned out better than I've ever done in the past (with complements from my family).
  18. Where is "up north"?
  19. I've had to curtail my grilling/smoking efforts greatly the last couple months since I've been in the midst of a move. Next week I move into a new house (and the movers give my weber back). But I'm also thinking about buying a Pit Barrel Cooker. Anyone use one of them? If not, what do you use (no need to respond if it doesn't burn charcoal or wood)?
  20. Didn't the Brewers just try to extend Villar? Maybe they just thought that the contract would make him more valuable in trade in a couple of years, but usually offering a player an extension means you view them as more than a "placeholder." I'm not sure why it needs to be either or... What if its both? Villar has risk on repeating next year. He has upside too. Diaz and Dubon are both in the minors with no guarantee of hitting MLB level. Extending Villar to a good contract and buying out the first couple years of arby (or maybe FA) is just good business. If he flops, you eat the contract and replace him. If he plays to his contract, but Diaz/Dubon outplay him, you trade Villar. If he outplays Diaz/Dubon, you keep him. Its just good asset management as long as the contracts aren't massively favoring the player.
  21. How dare you utter that name in here. It's not saying Joe Johnson but still.... I humbly apologize. I thought the cuss filter would have changed it enough to be acceptable. LL.net would've caught that one, but it slipped by at BF.net. Here they catch Jeffrey H%#&*^@ds, Jeff S*&%$n and E*** Gagme
  22. If you are splitting catcher's playing time, tying them to certain SPs is the normal way to do it. Doesn't have to be 100%, but it makes sense to allow a pitcher to get comfortable with one instead of swapping them around all the time.
  23. I'm not sure either Brinson or Broxton has the ceiling of Cameron. I've never seen either of them untuckem'. Forget the batting line, ruffling the Cardinal's feathers is what I look for in a young player.
  24. Exactly, I'm pretty sure that the players are selected and the Brewers have the pick. If they don't like any of them (if they are all injured), then they take the $100. Boston doesn't have any say in it anymore.
