  1. I wonder if some Biloxi placements are being driven by the commercial side of things. We left Huntsville and are starting a new franchise in a new town with a new stadium. A good spot for the Brewers to have their AA team. Having a competitive team in Biloxi helps solidify the fanbase. So starting good relationships with the franchise owners there might be part of the reasoning for not being aggressive in the promotions.
  2. I'm guessing he is included since that would be how he initially came into the league. I would expect the same from Cuba and other international countries not included in the draft.
  3. When he was optioned out of the MLB camp, they optioned him to AA. Personally, I was a bit surprised, but given the lack of success in his history, they might want to have him return there to continue that success and avoid the thin air of Colorado...
  4. I suppose we couldn't get any insight as to Carlos Leal's absence during ST, could we??? Even knowing if its injury related or not would be nice. Or perhaps long term/short term absence?
  5. Unless the next guy is from 2080. I wonder if they guy has been reading this forum: I can "kind of" understand Clark being missing (if he can't play CF, he loses a lot of value). But Jorge Lopez is a big head-scratcher too.
  6. How often have we actually kept a 5th OFer on the roster? I'd bet we keep 4. Santana and Flores are "passable" at CF short term. Then call up Maverick or someone else to cover CF longer term if needed.
  7. I see Nieuwenhuis being kept for a 5th OFer. He has no further upside; you know exactly what you will get from him. He was brought in in case everyone else flops. Since they aren't, I doubt they really need him. If they keep a 5th OFer, it would be for the upside potential (Liriano), but I can't remember the last time they kept a 5th OFer. And JB has a good point that he might make it through waivers at this time of the year.
  8. •ESPN.com’s Mark Saxon looks at the Cardinals’ decision on shortstop Ruben Tejada, whom the Mets just placed on waivers. It appears that St. Louis is more likely to make a play for Tejada if he clears waivers than it is to claim him, though, Jon Heyman of MLB Network tweets. Kind of surprising he was released. The Mets are surely better than us right now, but Tejada didn't seem to hit poorly for a SS. Would've been an upgrade on Segura. But I seem to remember that his defense was horrid... am I wrong? Either way, I'm guessing the Brewers would rather see what they have in Villar than pull in Tejada.
  9. 1. Orlando Arcia 2. Maverick Phillips 3. Jorge Lopez 4. Gilbert Lara 5. Trent Clark 6. Josh Hader 7. Cody Ponce 8. Kodi Medeiros 9. Monte Harrison 10. Jacob Nottingham 11. Clint Coulter 12. Michael Reed 13. Isan Diaz 14. Demi Orimoloye 15. Adrian Houser 16. Zach Davies 17. Marcus Diplan 18. Devin Williams 19. Jacob Gatewood 20. Nate Kirby 21. Jorge Ortega 22. Tyrone Taylor 23. Carlos Herrera 24. Keon Broxton 25. Carlos Leal, 26. Wei-Chung Wang 27. Garin Cecchini 28. Taylor Williams 29. Yhonathan Barrios 30. Trey Supak 31. Rymer Liriano 32. Ramon Flores 33. Daniel Missaki. 34. Bubba Derby 35. Tyler Cravy 36. Freddy Peralta 37. Colin Walsh 38. Victor Roache 39. Yadiel Rivera 40. Damien Magnifico 41. Ariel Pena 42. Jacob Barnes 43. Sean Nolin
  10. More spring fun: Do yourself a favor and do not look up how Sardinas is doing........... I'm sure it would have no effect on me. If ST stats had anything to do with anything, Aramis Ramirez would never have had an MLB career. He was notorious as a slow starter. Guys that played winterball are certainly ahead of the curve from guys that didn't. Both Sardinas and Santana came in fairly "baseball" ready where other guys are knocking off some rust. Maybe they should have a HOF for ST.
  11. Thanks for the feedback. The scouting realm is interesting, but it certainly seems like the grades conflict themselves at times (i.e. a 70/60/60/40/50 skill set results in a 45 or 50 grade). Certainly its driven by opinions and attempts to predict the future, but seems like some scouts are more consistent than others. So I suppose your #2-3 range for Ponce matches up with Reyes (for different reasons). So at least that makes more sense.
  12. No. I was on a business trip to Detroit last year and watched a Tiger's game in a restaurant where they started Wolf. I was legitimately shocked that he was still pitching and that Detroit would have him start (hey, lefty RPs have a LONG life). Not surprisingly, it was a BP-fest for the other team. The shock of seeing him start must have been evident on my face because another patron of the restaurant patted me on the shoulder as he left and tried to encourage me for next year. I didn't have the heart to tell him that I was a Brewer fan and was stunned that Detroit couldn't figure out in 2015 what we had figured out 4 years prior.

  14. Agreed. I see no harm with him working in instructionals a bit more this spring, starting the year in Helena and earning his way up.
  15. Given that it comes from the "Baraboo News Republic" and the title picture is presumably the author... it sounds like someone else is pimping for more publicity.
  16. His best case profile would be that of a #2, his middle ground would be that of a #3, which is fine. He's definitely interesting. I do remember your scouting report post. That and following him last year has me thinking he is going to be a fast riser. But my original post was questioning how a guy with a 70/60/60/40 on his best 4 pitches was "only" a middle rotation starter (per Kusiolek). I suppose his rankings could be high compared to other rankings, but here is how BA ranks other pitchers: Lucas Giolito Fastball: 80 | Curveball: 70 | Changeup: 55 Tyler Glasnow Fastball: 75 | Curveball: 60 | Changeup: 50 Alex Reyes Fastball: 70 | Curveball: 60 | Changeup: 50 Jorge Lopez Fastball: 60 | Curveball: 50 | Changeup: 45 Ranking by Chris Kusiolek: Cody Ponce Fastball: 70 | Slider: 60 | Changeup: 60 So just be looking at his top three pitches, he compares favorably to Alex Reyes and Tyler Glasnow. Would they be considered #2s? (Honest question, I don't know). Also interesting is that BA ranks Ponce's control better (50) than Lopez, Glasnow or Reyes (45), but worse than Giolito (60).
  17. I think he meant "pay more because they are the cubs" and not "pay more than the next guys". We picked up the future 2b in Isan Diaz No, no, no, no... You draft and trade for talent. If they fit "holes" in the system, great. But you don't avoid positions just because "we already have one". Because Diaz might not be the future 2b.
  18. Everybody needs to lighten up. Hank is fun. He's a good little doggie. It's ok to have a little silliness and joy in sports and in life. Not everything has to revolve around draft slotting, OPS, and ground ball ratios. [sarcasm]Meh. He is too short for first and too slow for SS. His OBP is all based on AVE and barely has any ISO...[/sarcasm]
  19. Fastball: 70 Slider: 60 Changeup: 60 Curveball: 40 And they have them as a mid-rotation starter? Shouldn't those 3 pitches combine to a #2 at least? FYI, I think the strong FB/strong Change combo is the deadliest pitch combo.
  20. I wouldn't think its any more annoying than sitting right behind the plate... Its not like there isn't a precedent already for it.
  21. Meh. I have dish network with the hopper app. So I can access any show that my dish carries (including FoxSportsNet) or on my DVR anywhere I am from my phone or tablet. I watched part of the Packer-Cardinal playoff game from Europe last Feb.
  22. Orlando Arcia, Brett Phillips, Trent Clark, Jacob Nottingham, Gilbert Lara, Kodi Medeiros, Cody Ponce, Devin Williams, Isan Diaz, Monte Harrison Wow, that is almost our overall top 10
  23. I'd like to cut ties with all players around age 30-31... Like TT and the Packers. Annually one of the youngest teams out there. Keep specific vets after the rookie contracts. And let most go in FA (to get more picks). Football's physical nature puts more emphasis on youth than BB, but the principal is essentially the same. I wouldn't be so absolute, but the players you keep should be the special ones.
  24. Get a clue buddy. Or better yet, get lost. Really uncalled for. [sarcasm]Its obvious that the kid was posting on BF.net about how the batter's elbow wasn't high enough during the swing.[/sarcasm] I have taken my kids to a game and realized that they don't have the reaction/coordination/strength to protect them from foul balls and flying bats. And sometimes I'm reaching for a hot dog or peanuts and not watching every pitch either. Even when I'm not on BF.net posting... So, yes protective nets would be nice.
