  1. Ditto on 24 being too old at AAA or MLB level. That is a little odd. Perhaps at AA or A+ if you haven't shown much progress. But the greater point is the age "27". That seems to be the magical year where most players have their peak performance. So if player A is 27 and hits are a replacement level, most people will assume that his projection is mostly or completely gone. Not leaving any room for improvement. Where someone at 24 hitting replacement level still has some years where he could theoretically improve.
  2. Given that the guy has been a "lifer" in the MiLB system and done some joke interviews through the years, I've got to believe this is a pre-cursor of things to come for him. If not here, he'll be doing it somewhere.
  3. [sarcasm]DON'T DO IT![/sarcasm] Depending on your kid's interests, the Museum of Science and Industry is a very hands-on place. I found the Planetarium to be a little dull.
  4. After last night I think I'd rather play MD than deal those bigs at Purdue again. I was watching Happ (#22) posting up #44 for Purdue and I thought, "The numbers are fitting. #44 is twice Happ's size." They certainly had a height disadvantage inside. Hopefully Van Vliet will put on some weight this year and help fix that problem next year.
  5. C Juan Centeno -- Signed with Minnesota [sarcasm]"Traded" for Pinto?[/sarcasm]
  6. After reading the report and seeing the "surprises" in this particular report, I wonder if this projection has a dose of intended controversy built into it. What benefit would the author have in putting out a cookie cutter version of other's rankings? This one is a bit behind all the rest of them. So to generate more "click traffic", I wouldn't be surprised if he built in some buzz-worthy variation to get people talking about it. And if he is completely wrong, he "missed" on a secondary prospect that only us diehards have heard of, but still "hits" the major ones. And like a weather forecaster, most people don't track or expect high accuracy.
  7. There is also a non-zero chance that he can't even make it as a 4th/5th OFer at the MLB level. If you take all the guys that have Reed's profile, the majority make it as a low-end starter or 4th OFer. Maybe his power suddenly shows up, but that isn't normal to come after reaching 22 (not significant levels anyway). Reed MiLB: .265 .375 .381 .756 Brantley MiLB: .303 .388 .377 .765 Brantley MLB: .292 .349 .423 .772 Cain MiLB: .294 .366 .430 .795 Cain MLB: .288 .337 .418 .754 Brantley did pick up some SLG in his MLB career, but otherwise both players put in a downward trend at the MLB level. Even if Reed holds his MiLB numbers, he is an average corner OFer. A Geraldo Parra type player. That doesn't deserve a #3 ranking in our system.
  8. By the way, if you are looking for a good small dog, look into the Teddy Bears. - They are cross-bred between two full breeds and don't suffer from any real health problems that plague full-breds. - Teddy Bears are said to be the most hypo-allergenic dog out there. They don't shed and have little dander. My family isn't allergic, but our dog certainly doesn't shed. - They are also great with kids and very patient dogs. Mine will play fetch for hours (literally). - They are also known for limited barking. Mine will only bark when she wants to come inside. We trained her to ring a bell to go outside. She will occasionally bark at a strange noise in the dark, but even that is pretty rare. - Very friendly.
  9. - The pair of photos in the BCB column which show Street Hank and Suburban Hank in a dugout next to a red phone. Besides looking whiter and fluffier, Suburban Hank looks like he has a bigger frame. You don't get bigger bones through grooming and diet. I realize it could be just the angle of the photos, but that pair of photos gave me the most pause. (Not paws.) I have a Bichon/Shih-Tzu mix which is commonly called a "Teddy Bear". She looks remarkably like Hank and my kids remarked on this right away when Hank came out. If you are used to a dog that sheds, you may not recognize how much different a dog can look based on the way its groomed (or not groomed). Right now, my dog is a major fluff ball because she is overdue for a cut. Then after the cut, its amazing how small she is under that fur. Looking at the BCB photos, it looks like Hank originally had a Shih-Tzu cut and now more of a Bichon cut and groom. We prefer the Shih-Tzu because its easier to maintain and doesn't look like a foo-foo dog. Also, the longer the coat gets, the more white it becomes. Our dog is almost fully white when we get her cut. Then when its short, the color comes through more. I can't say its the same dog, but I can see where its possible just based on fur growth. And they certainly should go back to the Shih-Tzu cut. The foo-foo Bichon look should be outlawed.
  10. This also makes me doubt his list: Admittedly, I haven’t seen him play defense myself, but reports say he struggles with receiving and blocking, but has enough arm strength to be an average asset with the running game. So, how much is based off of first hand scouting and how much on hearing others? I like Reed and think he has a chance to be a MLB starter, but he isn't the 3rd ranked guy in our system...He is more like Liriano honestly.
  11. Which is exactly why he needs a long look to see what upside he can reach. We are the perfect team for him this year.
  12. Garza's big bugaboo has always been his health. That is why the starts and innings qualifiers are there. If he is healthy enough to start another 58 starts in two years (which would also indicate that he isn't stinking up the joint if the Brewers allow him that many starts), he is probably worth $13M. And if he reverts back to his sub-4.00 days, another year of control might increase his value. (Ok, I did say "might").
  13. [sarcasm]But will Jonathon Lucroy stay a Brewer long enough to reach his bobble head day on March 4th????[/sarcasm]
  14. No, I think he is there because he was a boom-or-bust player from the beginning. And not a lock to stick at SS. Personally, being below Rivera is too low. But it shows how much risk (and distance to MLB) plays a role in the rankings.
  15. Out of the "number of out of options guys" that we have, not all of them will stick around. In the OF alone, there must be one cut: Liriano/Flores/Nieuwhatever. And Broxton might push one of them out too. Good possibilities in the BP for cuts, too. Trading Lucroy, an SP or an RP would also open spots up.
  16. Aren't they also retraining the umps on the strikezone and reducing the variation?
  17. I've not seen any of them in person, but based on scouting reports, it sounds like Lara has the best chance to stick at SS. Gatewood is speculated to be at 3B (or even some reports of 1B). And Diaz at 2B because of arm strength. But if Lara starts at Helena, I'd guess Gatewood and Diaz will split time: Gatewood at 3B/SS and Diaz at SS/2B. With Neuhaus splitting at 2B/3B. But if Lara comes up, I'd guess it would be more fixed at Gatewood/Lara/Diaz covering 3B/SS/2B. But that is only my thoughts...
  18. 1. Has Gatewood been permanently moved from SS? He was strictly playing third the times I've seen him. No official announcement that I'm aware of, but its unlikely the Brewers would announce that in the offseason. Lots of people at BF.net have speculated this would happen with Lara and Diaz both contending for playing time at SS. So I would guess he will still get some time at SS this year, but probably getting a deeper look at 3B, which is most probably his future home.
  19. Prince Fielder 2007 matched Khris Davis with 20 also. Looking at Gorman Thomas 21HRs in 1979 Davis in with Prince and Thomas is being in good company
  20. Do the Badgers get in the top 25?
  21. But there is also far less pressure to win like when we "chunged" wang for a full year.
  22. "Brewers manager Craig Counsell considers Aaron Hill the favorite to start at third base this season." Maybe I'm reading to much into it, but to me, that statement says that Hill will be the starter... You realize that you are quoting the title of an article written by a journalist and not a quote from CC himself, right? Everything quoted from CC just says that he will get a lot of work at 3B. But frankly, given who we have on the 40-man, I wouldn't be shocked that he is the favorite today. But as others have said, with a long way to go before opening day.
  23. Novak's defensive skills rival that of a 3 year old child right now. If he plays at all, I will be shocked. Just Kidd giving another contract to another buddy of his who he used to play with. Actually, I'm suddenly a fan because of the guy he replaced. Copeland was horrid and didn't even deserve to be the back of the bench. I still have nightmares of that game early in the season that he hoisted up the ball every time he touched it. In 5 minutes he went 1-7 and laid more bricks than it took to build the All Saints Episcopal Cathedral. So replacing one end of the bench guy with a local fan favorite end of the bench guy that can actually shoot is a positive. - Have him start working with Jabari and MCW stat! Player-coach him!
  24. ramon flores, rymer liriano, kirk nieuwenhuis - fighting for two, possibly one spots in the OF. Flores' injury status unknown and could start in IR. jeremy jeffress - Lock for BP sean nolin - Career MiLB starter that would need to move to the BP to make the team. Late claim, long shot odds. But who knows. Maybe another Will Smith? ariel pena - Given last year's resurgence and being a year of development, almost 99.9% chance he sticks. tyler Thornburg - Lock for BP jonathan villar - Lock for the 25 man. Odds on favorite to start SS. - So almost guaranteed that one spot opens at the end of ST. And probably 2.
  25. Walsh. And I'd prefer this to Hill. But I'm sure if something happens moving Hill to 2B isn't hard.
