  1. I believe someone did this last season and that is what they requested for people to post the list without comments and then comment in another post or after your list why they are there if you wanted to. I'm still around... I got a promotion last summer and most of my free time vanished. I had a spreadsheet that did most of the work, so that was the reason for the request for names only. Not sure how LouisEly is doing it.
  2. Wow. 6-3, 170lbs, 16 years old and possibly a CFer. He could be a big kid after a few years.
  3. Without looking: Ke Davis edit: Blast! Close, but no cigar. I haven't been able to watch that closely this year, but I've noticed Kentrail's resurgence this year...
  4. My apologies to all for bothering to read JSOnline prior to coming here for news.... they are still reporting Estrada's next start as "unknown".
  5. And even better: Both happened.
  6. If those guys develop its great but we don't necessarily "need" them in the near future. I can't think of a time that we didn't "need" pitching.
  7. Blast! Orlando Arcia is going to need work on his no-look tags from now on...
  8. You don't have a radio to listen to Ueck while at the game? Shame...
  9. Although I don't have nearly the clout of CJ, I agree totally with that last post. I'm following Jed's starts closely this year, probably more so than anyone in the system.
  10. I just ponied up for the At Bat app for my phone. Its still overpriced, but at least I get audio on the phone and computer with one subscription (unlike last year). And I can listen to the game at work...
  11. He can get a 100k bonus if he makes a play going to his right. He gets 50k if he makes the appearance of even trying for one. So those fall into the category of "Unlikely to be reached" incentives?
  12. Having above average players on "decent" contracts is never a bad thing. If Gamel or Morris start pushing Hart, above average players on "decent" contracts are easily trade-able. Letting Hart go without knowing that Morris/Gamel/whomever can play 1B leads people question DM's ability to plan. The key part isn't whether to extend Hart or not. Its how much and how long its going to take to resign him.
  13. Remember that Morris has had one really good year (Huntsville) and two "blah" years (Brevard and Wisconsin). And he still hasn't shown much ability to take a walk. I know a lot of people jumped on his bandwagon, but he isn't a can't-miss type prospect. For Hart, however, I'm with WTP. A short(er) contract wouldn't be a bad idea. Last year, he was the 11th ranked 1B (by OPS) or 10th if you want to exclude Mauer. He isn't an All-Star, but he isn't bad either.
  14. Inferring on press and RR quotes, Gonzalez is probably the starter at 1B. That doesn't mean Maldonado shouldn't be. If we keep Lalli on the roster AND start him at C or 1B ahead of Maldo... someone should be fired! Why would we be expecting that an NRI catcher that couldn't hit MLB pitching before should play ahead of someone we developed and has shown 1 year of hitting MLB pitching.
  15. It's astounding to me how many people would be okay with Braun "defending" at 3B. clancyphile only counts as one person you know.
  16. Is it possible that RR will platoon Gonzalez and Green, but is announcing Gonzalez as the starter as a nod to the veteran status?
  17. Also, CheezWizHed, I think I've read that having Lalli on the roster (if he makes it) would be in part so that Maldonado can remain the backup C, not get 1B playing time, or so that Roenicke could use either Maldonado or Lalli to PH as situations dictate and still have a C on the bench. Yes, I read that also. But that doesn't mean it makes much sense. Maldo is our next best 1B option, IMO. I'm not positive how he is defensively, but he has a better stick than our other options at 1B right now.
  18. The only thing Lalli gives us is a backup catcher to sit on the bench (i.e. never plays) so Maldo can play 1B.
  19. At this point, I would think it would be better for him to play LF at AAA this year. If an opportunity (injury, suspension, whatever) presents itself, he could play at the MLB level. Otherwise he would be good trade bait. Getting him time at 1B gives him a spot with the big league team (maybe), but it decreases his value. From what I've heard he is a decent OFer with a weak(er) arm. The only reason we talk about him at 1B is because of Braun in LF. Otherwise we wouldn't think of it.
  20. I'm pretty sure Morris is going to get most if not all the reps at 1B in AAA.
  21. He is good but replaceable. It really depends on which Gomez we are talking about. The one of the last 1.5 years would be in the upper half or 1/3rd of MLB starters. That isn't so easy to replace. The one before that, I would agree.
  22. I'd throw Bradley and Nelson in the group that will crack the top 100 this year. I think they will make people take notice this year.
  23. Seeing the way Gamel and Green have been handled, and now Schafer, I don't really believe any of the Brewers' upper-minors position prospects will be given a chance to start, at least not until it's a "last option" scenario. Perhaps not in this current crop, no. But what are you complaining about, really? Gamel's defense wasn't fit for 3B, but was given many chances to improve. Then he was handed the 1B starting job and got injured. Coming into this year, it looked like CH was going to be at 1B, so they got him work in the OF to be a backup. CH got hurt and he was given the starting 1B job again. And got hurt again. Not sure how to blame DM there. Green is a decent prospect (and one of my favs), but isn't a "can't miss" guy at all. His ceiling is probably an average MLB starter. He has been given chances in the MLB and really hadn't forced anyone's hand to start him. But he will probably given some good chances now this year with Gamel and CH out. Schafer is similar to Green. Maybe a little higher ceiling, but not too much. And now he is getting a shot to be the 4th OFer after pretty much marching year-by-year through the minor league ranks. On the other hand, players like Segura, and Lucroy were brought up quickly and plugged into the starting position. And pitchers like Fiers, Rogers, and Peralta are getting legitimate chances also (without lingering in the minors). I think we tend to overvalue our MiLB rank and file guys. Honestly, I think DM and crew do a decent job of identifying real prospects. They make opportunities for those guys while still giving opportunities to lower prospect types that force their way out of AAA.
  24. who can play plus defense at all three spots with a decent bat? Gindl is comparable to Schafer. The main difference is that Schafer is good defensively in center while Gindl would only be passable (i.e. a short term backup). I've always been higher on Schafer as I think he has a better chance to be a starting CFer, but as a 4th OFer, they are comparable.
  25. Watching the Phillies and Blue Jays and Yuni just made a throwing error. The announcer said it was surprising because Betancourt is "known as a defensive shortstop." I'm curious as to when that happened. Its the catcher syndrome. If he can't hit and still in the MLB, he must be a defensive whiz...
