  1. Jonathan could enlist the advice of Katin, Gamel, & Reed in Nashville if he needed mustache help. Why would he enlist the advice of amateurs when he can go to Axford??? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif My guess is Lucroy and Kottaras. Kotteras was passed up by Nieves and now Rivera. He is headed in the wrong direction.
  2. I'm guessing that if you asked the Brewers, they would tell you he has the upside of a #2. I wouldn't buy that, but it's possible he could be a 3 or a strong 4, innings eater type pitcher. Wasn't it Reid Nichols who was comparing him to Odorizzi earlier this year (post trade, I believe)? I'd agree with And That, as I don't see him that high, but grouped with Ross and Heckathorn as 3-4 SPs.
  3. I was paying attention to him last year, but as you said, his walks caused him problems as the season wore on. This year, it was nice to see his progress so far. I gave him the Class A+ Pitcher of the Month for April, over Heckathorn (of course, that and $10 will get you a Starbucks coffee - plain, black). He isn't top 10 yet, but absolutely in the next 10.
  4. Is Hunter Morris a legitimate 1B prospect? I don't know why not. I think you pegged his biggest weakness so far (walks), but his power is legit. He reminds me a bit of LaPorta. Fun fact: Kh Davis is now hitting .500/.522/1.050 for an OPS of 1.572 in day games...
  5. Ouch. Every time it seems like Butler has turned a corner... WHAM: 5ER in 2.2 IP. Farris at SS today...
  6. That's a little surprising... Sounds like a page out of the Packers book with them keeping thee FBs.
  7. Seeing what Lucroy has done so far this year and looking at his MiLB history, I'd think a .340-350 OBP isn't out of the question. Which would be very nice in the #2 spot, but even .320 would be an improvement. I'd guess that RR hasn't put him there because he would have to shuffle the lineup on the days Lucroy sits (why that is such a big issue I'll never understand). Last year, Lucroy was indeed called up too early. By normal development standards, he should have been at AAA. Even so it wasn't to bad based on what we were used to at catcher... This year, he seems to be much more comfortable at the plate. And again it doesn't matter where Lucroy hits in the order to clear the pitcher's spot. I would think the discussion is more about getting people on base ahead of Braun and Fielder, rather than clearing the pitcher... Of course, if Gomez or YB moves to 9th, then we can discuss about Gallardo getting on base or hits to clear Gogo... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. Bill hall's walk-off suicide squeeze in one of the biggest comebacks in franchise history after he hit a two run walk-off homer the night before Well, there is the solution to our can't-beat-the-Reds problem... we need Billy Hall back in at SS. And with a pink bat.
  9. With Maldonado being bumped back to AA, I don't think the Brewers think that highly of him quite yet. Maybe by 2013 or mid-year 2012.
  10. Teams are not going to overspend on guys who aren't drafted say in 20 rounds, so I don't see a benefit for richer teams. Ok, you picked 20, I picked 25 rounds. Mainly I was thinking of the end of the teen rounds where those few players that have a strong college commitment get drafted, then signed to an above slot amount to sign them (Gennett for example). 20 or 25 rounds should cover that, but 15 would not. Of course, adding in international players to the draft might bump it a bit deeper also.
  11. There has to be a bit more to it than just under performing... to drop 2 levels? Perhaps the warmer weather helps his last injury (loosening up that is).
  12. But why is that better than just having a longer draft? Its worse IMO. There are plenty of people at this point that are high talent, but have strong college scholarships. So allowing them to be UDFAs favors the team that can shell out more money to lure them away. Plus there is plenty of talent at this point still (Green and Cain both were drafted later than the 15th round.) 25 rounds should be sufficient. I think the NFL has a decent compensation strategy. Look at the total lost and gained FAs and compensate on that. If the teams made the playoffs, they are limited in compensation.
  13. I just thought of another reason to not like the Cardinals: 1982 (although personally, I barely remember that year).
  14. I don't see how someone can grow up in Wisconsin and not hate the Cubs. It also depends on your age. Once the Braves left town, a lot of people (esp in the South) switched to Cubs fans. Many didn't switch back when the Brewers came to town (or had one as an NL fav and the other as the AL fav). It really hasn't been that long since its been a real rivalry to build "hatred". Having said that, I'm not in that older age group (I doubt many in that age are internet forum junkies). Here is how my rivalries pan out and the NFL equiv: 1) Vikings / Cardinals - Really don't like them or respect them. Arrogance and/or spite generally fills comments from players and coaches. 2) Bears / Cubs - Enjoy the Rivalry. Don't hate them. 3) Lions / Reds - Hate to lose to them (which amounts to the same as every team), but am ambivalent otherwise. Could possibly cheer for them in the playoffs if the Packers/Brewers are eliminated (not so with #1 and #2). 4) Pirates - HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
  15. After writing that, that thought crossed my mind, but I couldn't find any MiLB splits for him... Thanks for the update.
  16. Maybe we have a Yogi Berra-lite on our hands... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  17. Toby reminds me: Sacramento's leadoff hitter is none other than Jemile Weeks, Rickie's brother and the Brewers' unsigned 8th-round draft pick from 2005. Hmmm... So if we had Jemile at AAA and Rickie at MLB... that would have been an interesting problem.
  18. One thought I've had on DiFelice is that he is a ROOGY, while you already have Loe in the pen (as a ROOGY-lite). Congrats to Dillard. For no particular reason, he has been a favorite of mine.
  19. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Gallardo normally pitches in the 91-93 MPH range (obviously can hit around 95 at times)...
  20. The Royals used to be a proud franchise, and their fans deserve better. Yeah, they parallel the Brewers quite a bit. I remember the old George Brett vs. Robin Yount comparisons. We both put average to good teams on the field in the '80s. Then both fell into the cellar during the '90s, then we were able to "rebound" a bit to the point of some respectability (more in the average range than cellar-dweller) . Even the '05 draft with 3B Alex Gordon vs. 3B Ryan Braun. At that time, not a single person would have taken Braun over Gordon, but look at how that turned out.... As far as the prospects that we gave up, it will be interesting to see how many really turn out. I'll miss Odorizzi, I'm sure, but frankly, I'm liking Grienke now...
  21. Nick Bucci got hit hard, allowing three runs on nine hits in five innings. Well, if that represents his worst, that's not bad...
  22. If a highschool kid sits 90-91 topping out at 93 you hope he can add more velocity as he approaches his physical peak (projection). If the young man is 22-24 years old, the odds of him adding velocity aren't very good unless he has a major mechanical flaw in his delivery. Right. My thought was that if he had an average fastball for an A-baller, that didn't project well for his future (being in the older range). But if his FB is average for an MLB SP, then I think he has a good chance to be a #3-5 SP, since his control is excellent and seems to be an intelligent pitcher (granted it also could simply be that he is more advanced than the average A-baller).
  23. An average velocity in the 90-91 range is pretty average for a RHP in this era Do you mean for an A-baller, MLB SP, or major/minor leagues combined?
  24. Funny how it just doesn't jump off the page at you when it's not being said about your team. Actually, it still did jump out to me. It made me read deeper into what he was going to say about it (not much). There are some occasions where it is a simple mismatch. But most times (e.g. Sheffield), its a player complaining that they weren't treated at the level they thought they deserved (i.e. too full of themselves).
  25. Look at the the two articles above and marvel at the modern paragraph. Twitterfied.
