  1. Well, after starting out horribly, most of the team are playing fairly respectable ball. Brevard still remains a head-scratcher, as they probably are one of the more talented squads we have.
  2. I've thrown this out before and its similar to WTP's 3-way trade, but its Reyes coming back instead of Wright. (there maybe another piece or two thrown in here or there, also). Gamel + Reyes > Fielder + YB Especially when you consider defensively. Throw in a platoon at 3B with Green and our offense (as a whole) and defense (at 2 positions) make large upgrades. However, it would be a large risk in doing that, since: 1) Prince is a big part (no pun intended) of the locker room. The team is gelling now in a way that Dr. Scholl's can't do. Its a big risk to shake that up. 2) Prince is a fan favorite and an MVP candidate. This might be a VERY bad PR move. For those reasons, I really doubt there is a realistic trade (avoiding the Nintendo trades people make up) the Brewers would attempt with Prince.
  3. Brandon Kintzler would also be a welcome sight in the BP. I would agree with others, too. Its not necessarily the talent there, its the decisions being made as to who comes in when (or doesn't). Loe pitched great last year, when he was used in spots and wasn't locked into the 8th inning role. I've seen RR leave him in against the other teams best LH hitters to understand any thought process there.
  4. A couple more ideas: Sticking with Pirates of the Caribbean: Orlando "Bloom" Arcia NBA Themed: Orlando "Magic" Arcia Is it too early for this?: http://images.yuku.com/image/png/60926e736ee28386f076d4386ec05a0f433c025b.png
  5. Thismight explain it a bit: Ash also said pitching prospect Mark Rogers is headed for surgery at some point to relieve the carpal tunnel syndrome in his pitching wrist. First, Rogers and the Brewers want to see if an injection will allow him to pitch again this season. "We knew it would not be permanent relief and he knows it won't be permanent relief," said Ash. "His primary goal was to get through this season and then have a procedure." Ash said there would be a recovery period of six to eight weeks after the surgery. So it sounds like they are trying to get him some more pitching in this year, then let him heal in the off season. As long as he doesn't make it worse, I guess that makes sense.
  6. How about a bake sale? That might help in two ways.... I would only offer Prince the big contract if I felt very comfortable that 2 of my minor league pitchers are going to be able to step it up over the next couple years... I think that is the thing. We have better prospects for position players close to the majors than we have pitching prospects.
  7. While we are at it, seems like BK is bucking for AA...
  8. Crazy to think that we follow 16 & 17-yo kids in the Dominican Republic. Anywhere else and its considered stalking.
  9. Well sure, if you want to paint him in a positive light... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  10. Not sure what this year's draft will bring us in terms of talent, but at worst, there is the possibility of some interesting nicknames: Taylor Jungmann - I'm sure the jokes will get "old" fast. Drew Gagnon - perhaps not the type of nick name you want for a pitcher. Eric Gagne can sympathize. David Goforth - Better last name for a pitcher. Mike Strong - Will probably end up as a soft tossing LOOGY... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Tommy Toledo - Honestly sounds like a nickname already! But Toledo just reminds me of Klinger from MASH and his favorite mud-hens. Mallex Smith - He may compete with Maverick as the best first name in the system! Josh Smith - wait, how did that one get here? David Lucroy - ok, we can at least spell his name now. But the little brother angle still works! Trent Boras - I can think of a lot of names, but none that will make it through the filters... Sean Albury - Every box score that shows "S.Albury" is going to have me thinking of steak... Mitch Conner - Do you think Arnold Schwarzenegger will come to any of his games? DOH! Thinking John Conner there. Never was a South Park fan to make the correct reference... Caleb Whalen - that name works if he is killing the ball or pouting on the bench... Gant Elmore - will FanGraphs start using Gant charts? edit - got to double check my names before making a bad pop-culture reference...
  11. If Brock Kjeldgaard makes the MLB squad, will Burger King take over for George Webb as a corporate sponsor? Because BK is sure having it his way! Orlando "El Pirata" Arrrr-cia went 0-4. - We need to do better than this. Its like a bad joke in a bad B-movie... Granted, with a first name like Orlando, "Pirates of the Caribbean" fits there also. Maybe we should call him Edward Scissorhands! (ok, I'll admit to feeling stranger than usual this morning). Or more seriously, Orlando "Captain Jack" Arcia. Left-hander Daniel Meadows made his career Triple-A debut for Nashville and saw his first pitch as a Sound belted over the right field wall as Joey Butler led off the Round Rock sixth inning with a solo homer. A LOOGY in the making. At AAA, this year, he has a 9ERA against righties and a 0.00 ERA against lefties. Granted he has a 9K/9IP against both. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Red-hot Taylor Green (2-for-3) unloaded the bags with one swing of the bat when he laced a three-run double to right-center that one-hopped the wall to make it a 7-2 contest. There! I guess Money showed you guys a thing or two about lineups!
  12. Jack Z loves his ex Brewer farm hands. Well, he drafted them for a reason...
  13. That's kind of ironic that we announce the signing of our round 48-50 draft picks for this year and then announce that a former 49th round pick moves up to AAA.
  14. Estrada has one option remaining That's right, he never was on the 40-man this spring. I was thinking he was DFA-ed for lack of options, but he was on a minor league deal at first. Yeah, probably he or Dillard would make the most sense.
  15. I would think by now someone would claim Estrada if we sent him down. I'm pretty sure he is out of options. I know its a dream to send out Betancourt, but if the guy is still starting, I really doubt they are suddenly going to DFA him. But at least CC is getting some starts. Maybe its Braddock that goes (since he has options).
  16. Gamel, Green, Schafer, Komatsu, Gindl, Kh Davis... might not be any can't miss guys, but there is a decent crop of bats in the minors.
  17. The average point is the mean…And the mid-point is the median. Average doesn't need to fall at the mid-point, and more often than not, it doesn't. Here's a group of numbers: 10, 10, 8, 6, 3, 2, 2, 2, 1. The median (mid-point) is 3; the mean (average) is 4.9. I can't speak to defense. But I believe it was Bill James who pointed out that on offense, there are more below average players than above. That means that an average offensive player would likely fall into the top half rather than just being ho hum. But how will Chris Carpenter explain this to his son?
  18. Is that mean average or median average?
  19. I'm in no hurry to trade Hart, however, replacing him with Komatsu would likely improve the offense and defense. I'm a big fan of Little Pine, but he isn't ready to step in quite yet. Eventually, he will be an OBP improvement, but I don't think its a given that he will be better overall (offensively). I'd think that we will at least see this year and next with Hart.
  20. The Mustard color always looks good next to the Stadium Secret Sauce and unfortunately, I wear those colors regularly at the games I attend. Maybe I need more napkins...
  21. I shouldn't have used a one point sample to prove the point, but I was too busy (lazy) to look at the other All-Star selections (although Gennett comes to mind, though reputation probably had a bit to do with him). Thanks for the reminder on injuries though. I figured I was grasping for straws on this. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  22. Hmmmm... We have talked about how poor our system is, but is that an indication of how poor (at least the Southern League) other team's minor league systems are also? No disrespect to Bowman. Numbers don't always tell the tale, but those are pretty poor for an All-Star. I just wonder if we have been so used to having a top 10 minor league system, that maybe there is a big drop off between the top X teams and the rest? We might be around the worst, but maybe there are a lot of teams in the same boat... Seems like there are some other questionable All-Stars than just at AA also. I'll warn that I don't follow other teams MiLB teams at all and am looking for a silver lining here...
  23. I was insulting him more as a person than as a pitcher. Insulting him as a pitcher is far more warranted. Personally, he was a good guy.
