  1. McGehee simply doesn't hit well enough to justify moving him to 1B. And considering the OP, all of Gamel, Hart, Braun, and McGehee are in the lineup and fielding 1B/3B/RF/LF. So whether he hits "well enough" to play there doesn't matter, it was more a question of defensive alignment. If you open the question up to FA, trades, etc... then the question becomes much broader.
  2. Honestly, whenever the Brewers need a permanent replacement for Bob - even if only for road games - I will be surprised if Davey gets the call. I would hope not. But my post was more about "bottling" the genius of Ueck, not who replaces him. Because no matter who it is, it will be a step down.
  3. Yes, even though Casey is under contract for longer, he has a much higher chance of tailing off. He just turned 28 (Oct). Prince will turn 27 next spring (May). So age also comes into play with the arguments of "can he do it again?" and "how long can he continue at this level?". If there are 18 3B that are as good or better than Casey, that makes a pretty small market for for buyers. But if Prince is in the top 5 1B, that makes a much bigger number of buyers that could upgrade their current 1B by obtaining Prince. If we traded both players this off-season and got a similar return, it would be a traveshamockery! (sorry, just wanted to use that word...) But seriously, if you were going to trade X (Gamel, Odorizzi, $10, whatever), would you prefer to get Casey for 3 years or Prince for 1 year (plus draft picks) in return? edit - clarified a few statements.
  4. Not so sure why that is sad... (sad they failed?). All of us here not playing baseball probably failed at some level. Just that for most of us, it was at high school. Then we moved one to something else. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. Sure, if you are looking at "value", they might be comparable, but value is a secondary consideration on what people trade for. Supply and demand. The higher WAR, the fewer and fewer players are available to make that pace. Price is going to reduce the number of buyers, but there are still enough out there to want Prince to not make a difference in cost. Over the last two years, Prince had an average WAR of 5.5 and was 5th overall among 1B. McGehee had an average WAR of 2.7 and was 19th. You don't pay much for something that is common place, but will pay more for something that is rare. Your value considerations bring the two a little closer, but not much. Prince.
  6. stranding a baserunner of Bill Pulsipher At age 37 and this stage of his career, I doubt he is playing with the attempt to make a MLB comeback. I always cheer for guys that play just to play (granted, I realize its a paycheck also...).
  7. Conor Gillaspie singles on a ground ball to center fielder Engel Beltre. had to read that twice... my brain put in "Cole".
  8. it seemed like a lot of people passed Hart when he was playing 1b in the minors Nope, just Prince. It seems that the decision to move Gamel has already been made (just not in stone). And it seems that he doesn't like 1B, so I would think the Brewers are looking to have McGehee at 3B, Gamel in RF and Hart at 1B. I think I would prefer Gamel at 3B, McGehee at 1B, Hart and Braun in the OF. Seems like that would limit shuffling and then the obvious upgrade would be to replace McGehee at 1B (eventually) with no more shuffling. None of them really have the stick for 1B, except Braun. And it just seems like a waste to have Braun there. Give him more time in LF.
  9. I just changed my vote. I want Joey Cora! Sandberg coaching the White Sox would be so awesome! The Cubs would have to hate that.
  10. ?? You asked and now you receive: 1. Next Manager thread: http://brewersfandemonium...eply/673075#reply-673075 2. 20 posts per page 3. Blank Page 4. Post #690 was last. Extras: - I clicked on the "baseball" icon from the Major League Forum to bring me to the last read post in the thread - Using Firefox. - Yes, I did answer the poll.
  11. Mass, that last link is to the 2010 MiLB Awards (vote for Helena) link. I'm sure you did that just to check who was paying attention... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. Helena leading by 10% with a current vote of 31%
  13. TLB and I3K are you really the same person? I just realized that I've never seen both of you at the same time! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  14. Considering one of the problems Macha had was connecting with Fielder and Braun, perhaps keeping Sveum is one way to ease the transition to the new manager.
  15. A mustache or wiskers... Vote for HB logo instead.
  16. What? They celebrate something done well with a unified team gesture? How unclassy!
  17. Hopefully, Kotteras continues to improve and Rivera is the wrong side of 30, but I'm not certain its set in stone to have Kotteras as the backup C.
  18. Brendan, whats with all the singles? That isn't one of the 3TO! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  19. Tyler Thornburg (93-95/98), Jimmy Nelson (92-93/96) and Matt Miller (91-95/97) all noted for their fastballs. Nelson and Brian Garman mentioned for their sliders (Garman's reaches the mid-80s). Garman was another mentioned in this category for pitching 89-91 with his power slider. Sweet! Any idea over what span those numbers are taken from? One game? I knew Nelson started out slow(er) and picked up some steam towards the end of the season. But I'd be pretty happy with a sinker style pitcher throwing at those velocities.
  20. Well, the Dodgers had Randy Wolf in 2009 and they must have missed him in 2010. So now the Dodgers have Randy Wolf. His name is Ted Lilly. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  21. On those off days, they could have him in the studio recording stories and one-liners. Then when Davey gets a little too boring, Corey could just punch a button and interject a Uecker-ism or one of those out-of-nowhere-stories that has you laughing to tears. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  22. And then he got hurt on his pitching hand and everything that happened after that is pretty moot. Parra is not a good example of how to judge a pitcher, he is an example of how injuries can really stall a career. I don't remember the injury you mentioned, but I don't think he has had any injury since '07 (his MLB debut) that would effect him long term. Inability to control his pitches has stalled his career.
  23. 100+ years of futility tells me otherwise. ZING!!! I would like Bob Melvin, so we can have the "Bob and Doug M brothers". Press conferences might go like this.
  24. Isn't Rogers already clearly better than Narveson/Capuano/Parra? I don't think we have seen enough of Rogers to come to that conclusion. Lots of players pitch great for the first couple outings, then MLB figures them out, scouting reports proliferate, and teams start hitting them. Remember that Parra's first 14.2 innings in the MLB, he had 3ER, 15K, 3BB, and 12H. So, no, I don't think Roger's 10 innings give me any indication that he is better than Narveson, Capuano or Parra.
  25. I'm wondering if these winter leagues are the main baseball season for these Latin American teams? Or do they treat it as a developmental league also?
