  1. So you want to give Katin the Gamel treatment? He is hot, so bring him up to sit? Too early anyway to tell anything by 10-20 ABs... I'm all for it if Hart struggles for the next 2-3 weeks and Katin still looks good (all three of the 3TO). But not just to come up and sit.
  2. But would Katin really play at the MLB right now? Its not like Hart is playing poorly. Katin can't play CF. Nor would it help Nashville's OF limit right now. I would expect Cain to promote up from AA to fill the need at AAA (irregardless of the Gomez/Katin exchange).
  3. Hell has always been allowed on the site. Just last year it was used more for "Hells Bells", now it looks like its going to get other uses...
  4. Nice to see his speed is still there.. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif That AB with mistaking McGehee for Hart was just incredible. They kept going on about stats, speed, etc... all about Hart. Then when Hart actually came up to bat, they didn't even blink an eye.. just kept going. Surprised they didn't bring up that its against the rules to bat Hart twice in a row! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. Awesome HR by Corey Hart! (just auditioning for ESPN broadcaster...)
  6. I predict we will be talking about that for a while... That was total BS (blown save)!
  7. Especially after Friday. You don't give you closer the "hint" that you have doubts about him. You get him back on the horse.
  8. Ok, some "better" conversation at least... Will Peterson make an impact on our SPs? I like Castro last year, but I was disappointed when they named him the pitching coach instead of BP coach.
  9. Don't confuse him with the facts! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  10. I think that was reading a bit too much into his statement there...
  11. Very, very painful... Did they ever see that McGehee was batting in there instead of Hart?? Do small markets fluctuate??? Only when several million people get up and move at one time... idiots!
  12. I'm confused by what you are trying to say here... that it doesn't matter what jersey he had on, only the city he played in? This was a general comment, not specific to this discussion. But yes. Why should Atlanta celebrate the '57 WS victory, when it happened in Milwaukee? That would kind of defeat the purpose of celebrating 40 years of Brewers baseball in Milwaukee. Agreed, if the "memory" on the calendar was as a Brave... I'm guessing its supposed to be either his last home run, the one that broke Ruth's record, or both.
  13. One could state that that our moment of the 2000 decade is making the playoffs as a wildcard is embarrassing. Obviously much better than the previous 20something years, but Cubs and Cardinal fans would snicker at that "achievement." (Of course, Pirate fans are envious...) I guess it could be argued that it's a little ridiculous that Hank Aaron is on there, too... I find it ridiculous that a team "claims" all the events and players from a franchise when they resided in another city. Hammerin' Hanks time as a Brave in Milwaukee should proudly be claimed by Milwaukee. Brewers or Braves, who cares. It happened here. Like the '57 WS victory.
  14. I guess I understand if he gets behind in a count 2-0 or any 3 ball count that a fastball would most likely be coming but that is true in most scenarios in baseball. Unless you are pitching to Fielder with Hart behind him and 1B open. Or anyone with Sheets up next... I'm not saying he will get meatball pitches every time he is up. I'm not saying he won't see any curveballs or sliders. I'm saying that pitchers are far more likely to go after Gomez because you have Braun behind him. So unless he doesn't have any plate discipline and swings at pitches off the plate and in the dirt, I'm assuming he will get more fastballs than normal. If someone wants to prove me right/wrong with stats, fine. Conventional wisdom is good enough for me until then. I should add that the difference between the two players would make a big difference also. Obviously, pitching to Braun in front of Fielder doesn't quite lead to the same assumptions as to Gomez in front of Braun.
  15. I know it's the long-standing assumption but I don't believe it's actually true that batters ahead of elite batters will see more fastballs. I'm not even sure why that is the assumption. - You want to face Braun/Fielder with as few people on base as possible. - Most pitchers have the best control of their FB - Gomez has a small chance of hitting a homer and he has proven himself as not a great all-around hitter (so far) So unless he reliably swings at junk (as we both pointed out is possible), why would you not challenge him more than other batters? No, I have no stats to back that up. but I would guess those reasons would explain the assumption. If we stick to the parameters set in the lead (which have long since been forgotten) Thanks for having my back casey! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Nice summary of the thread, too.
  16. Yahoo reportsits a club option Milwaukee holds a $13 million option for 2015 with a $600,000 buyout.
  17. Well, I suppose it helps to have an extra arm for a double header...
  18. That is why I keep rooting for Dillard. He has a good attitude and keeps at it, even when the club kind of jerks him around.
  19. 1 game = small sample size Yeah, but 4 WPs in one game is a pretty big WOW. Especially when his defense was already in question. I'm not BBQing him. I'm just looking for first hand impressions, as I only followed it online. Basically, anytime a ball hits the dirt before it gets to the catcher, its a WP. Sheets was well known for intentionally spiking his CB in the dirt, trusting the catcher to block it. And from the two "ZZZ" responses, the first inning was more Davis' wildness than Kottaras. So it helps to know that.
  20. Is there any value in Gomez just staying where is is so he is surrounded with our best hitters? Sure. He will see more FBs in front of Braun. (Unless he proves that he WON'T take a walk, then they just throw him junk) In fact, I would guess that one reason he is in 2nd is for the support of Braun/Fielder behind him. Personally I would prefer Escobar in that position, as he has posted better numbers in the minors. But I also think Escobar can handle being being unprotected better. After a few years of struggling, I'm guessing they are trying to prop Gomez up a bit to succeed...
  21. I'm hoping someone that saw the game yesterday can shed some light into the 4 wild pitches from yesterday. Obviously, these were not PBs, but there is a lot of assumptions that these were mainly Kottaras' fault. Were these pitches in the dirt that most catchers would have blocked? Any other thoughts on Kottaras' defense (he did throw out a base runner w/ DD "slow to the plate" pitching).
  22. I thought he was originally drafted as Prince's replacement. But them moved to OF so both could/might play on the same team, but ultimately would be a 1B. I think most of the chatter back then was trading Prince when LaPorta was ready (with the assumption of the Boras FA factor on Prince). JJ now has 2 HR's this season. Is he going to go have a career season now? (Logically, I know I shouldn't think this, but it's been my fear that we let him go at the wrong time). Things had soured with JJ. His heir-apparent was waiting in the wings and he picked a bad time to have a poor season. He needed a change of scenery. Of course, Gomez has on OPS of 1.000 right now. What if both have career seasons? I've wondered how trading Brantley would have effected the JJ trade. I'm sure we wouldn't have Gomez now, but Brantley in CF instead. (And oddly enough, they seem like very similar players except for OBP...).
  23. Carlos giving the brass a little something to think about with Soup coming back next week. Not a chance. Even if he was a better SP, he isn't stretched out...
  24. Strange, my posts keep getting "inserted" above other posts. My post at #235 was in response to post #237... - Had to edit, because this post was inserted again....
  25. Yes, but why wait to haggle until then? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
