  1. I'm not so worried about signing vs. not, but losing time to work. I wasn't crazy about Lawrie sitting out all of last year, but at least he was playing with CA. I'd like to see these guys get in so they can start the development process (evaluating pitching deliveries especially). The results for draft year players might as well be thrown away, but its nice to see them get a body of work to evaluate over the winter.
  2. So Wallace was the Card's #2 prospect. But how does he compare with Gamel? 3B vs. 3B, #2 prospect vs. #2 (in some opinions anyway). Just trying to gauge the trade in terms I know. Thanks.
  3. I agree with DHonks. I've been in the FLA humidity and the AZ heat (also in Death Valley and Salt Lake City). I prefer the dry heat out west. Plus, FLA is crazy for so many other reasons... Of course, this may signal we are going after Halladay... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. Didn't Teddy Higuera end his career there also? I guess that would identify the guys that don't play for money, but play for the game.
  5. Welcome GoMocs! Its always great to have someone that regularly sees our MiLB players. Expect someone to ask about Anundsen's FB speeds as soon as he gets called up to AA. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif And since I kind of brought it up... how does Mike Jones look this year?
  6. So any draft signing updates lately? I thought MLB was "approving" above slot bonuses in early July?
  7. We are probably arguing semantics, but when I hear someone say "a #2 pitcher", I'm thinking league-wide ranking ( not an ace (#1) but a step below that). So being our 2nd best pitcher doesn't equal being "a #2". That is all I meant. Gallardo is really a #2 pitcher (close to #1, but not there yet).
  8. Wow. atrocious is not an adjective I'd use for Looper. He hasn't been lights out, but he has been far from atrocious. He is about what we expected from him when signed. His HR rate is troubling and his WHIP is higher than normal, but he keeps the team close in just about every game. And no one called Looper a #2, just the second of a 1-2 punch. He has simply been our 2nd best SP. (although surprisingly close with Suppan). Suppan and Looper have been surprisingly consistant so far this year, not great, but not terrible either. For atrocious, see Parra in June.
  9. I don't think that Prince kid in Beloit will amount to much. Funny how Bill Hall's BA is about the same then and now...
  10. The biggest obstacle for McGehee to win the ROY is Counsell.... Shouldn't McGehee be the default 3B now?
  11. Typo: I meant "You were not going to DFA your backup SS to keep Gamel on the bench.". Gamel vs. Counsell doesn't matter. It doesn't now, but prior to acquiring Lopez it did. Sounded like the question of the odd man (with Lopez coming in) out should have been Counsell, not Gamel. I may have mis-read. I agree that Gamel should have been starting most games at 3B when he was at the MLB level.
  12. Gamel vs. Counsell doesn't matter. You were going to DFA your backup SS to keep Gamel on the bench. I'm hoping McGehee gets more playing time than Counsell, as he has outplayed them both. Now is the time to figure out if you have something with him. Then you can find out if he is your starting 3B, backup 2B/3B or trade bait for next year. I like the Lopez trade, but I hope they let him walk and McGehee is our backup 2B for next year. Gamel simply needs consistant playing time. He wasn't getting it at MLB.
  13. That one threw me for a bit also... I've been on vacation away from new/media/internet and thought they aquired someone... But I'm assuming it was Bill Hall... It seems that more and more internet "journalism" is going the way of brash opinions to polarize people (not referring to this article, but in general) and ignoring accurate reporting of news...
  14. If neither are traded, the AZ Fall League could be interesting... would they, could they send both?
  15. Generally injuries are reported, so if this is something they can't discuss, can we rule out injury? Maybe I'm reading into your statement too much, but I'm looking for a silver lining... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  16. Frankly, I expected more from him this year. Since he had a really nice season at A+ and BC has such a pitcher's park. But his OBP is still very nice this year and he is turning it around, which are both good signs. For the future, Here is my best guess as to how the Brewers handle the two in order of probability: 1) One is packaged in a trade coming up soon. If this happens, we will see whom the Brewers expect to be the better catcher. I guess Salome is traded, but ... 2) Both stay at their current level for next year. Neither is tearing up the league like last year. Staying at AA won't really stunt Lucroy's growth (pitching between AA/AAA is simliar). 3) Salome comes to MLB, Lucroy goes to AAA. I just don't see Salome up next year, but some people expect it.
  17. How about diverting HFA completely by playing game 7 at a neutral site? Granted, you still have to figure out where to start the series...
  18. I was reading Pujol's comments about Fielder this morning and this statement really jumped out at me, since Prince hasn't yet had injury issues: "He's going to be a great player. Hopefully he can stay healthy." It might have been an innocent statement, but for someone who hasn't had injury problems, just to throw that in... it seems like Pujols thinks Fielder's body type might lead to problems also. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it.
  19. Slight twist on the original question: Would you prefer the current HR derby selection or more like the NBA dunk contest: Select the best HR hitters regardless if they make the All-Star team or not? (Of course that would mean Mr. 3TO would be included.)
  20. Since the Cubs org is viable (making money, not winning) and the Trib is in bankruptcy, it sounds like this is a technicallity to prevent a creditor to the Trib from coming after the $$ in the Cubs. I work as a supplier to GM and a competitor to Delphi, so we have learned much about bankruptcy lately... There are a lot of strange laws and ways to move money around. But if Bud is still looking for someone to contract... :P edit: blast, LouisEly, I need to refresh more often or write faster...
  21. Link I hear they plan to go bankrupt as the "old Cubs", rid themselves of 100 years bad luck and curses, then re-emerge as the "new Cubs". Then when someone brings up the goat, Bartmen, "Maybe next year", they can say - "That was the old Cubs"! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  22. Any insight as to why Corporan/Maldonado swapped in the first place?
  23. I can't remember one person who wanted to trade Prince because of a "poor" year last year (which was his 3rd full season, not his sophomore year). Main reasons to trade Prince: 1) A doubt that we can keep him past arbitration. 2) He could bring in a good pitcher (or more) in return 3) Long term concern about sustaining play with his weight. When we traded LaPorta, I think the best replacement for Prince also left the organization. So my desire to trade Prince declined for the 2009 offseason. Gamel might fit the bill, but I'm hoping he stays at 3B. So I'm thinking the best time would be prior to the 2011 offseason. However, if he signed a contract like Braun did, I would be more than happy.
  24. If being addicted to Uecker is wrong, I don't want to be right!
  25. Yeah, I'm not buying the "its not addictive" either. I searched for "is marijuana addictive" first 5 sites said yes (I gave up looking for a "no" at that point). http://www.whitehousedrugpolicy.gov/publications/marijuana_myths_facts/myth2.pdf Yeah, I know its from the "evil establishment". I think a poster at JSOnline summed it up perfectly: Some can smoke pot every so often, or smoke pot alot but stop smoking a week before an important deadline, some can smoke a ton and quit with no craving again. Personally, I wa4s the third kind of smoker-- spending 120 bucks a week on it... then, I looked at the 12 joints I had, smoked them all in a day, and on the following day i quit and haven't done it once in almost two years now. The addiction isn't what kills... what kills tons of people I know is that it destroys your ambition and makes you content to settle for a life that's less than the kind of life you had once aspired to lead. I'm guessing the Jeffress didn't smoke because he was demoted to A+, he was probably smoking at AA, leading to the demotion.
